Safe All Along

release date: May 07, 2024
Safe All Along
Leave behind your anxious thoughts and embrace a steady confidence that you are never beyond the reach of God’s loving hand, from the bestselling author of Kisses from Katie. “Safe All Along will help you break the cycle of what-if worries and experience the peace of God in new ways.”—Jennie Allen, New York Times bestselling author of Get Out of Your Head As a missionary, wife, and mom of fifteen, Katie Davis Majors knows how hard it can be to receive God’s peace instead of giving in to fear and worry. Family emergencies, unexpected life-shifting events, and the busy rhythms of family life have at times left her reeling. In Safe All Along, Katie offers reflections and stories from around the world and from her own kitchen table about her personal journey toward living from a place of surrendered trust. Every chapter leads us deep into Scripture as we learn what it looks like to break free from anxiety and take hold of peace. Rich in biblical explorations of lament and praise, forgiveness and hope, service and surrender, Safe All Along asks, What practical choices can we make to experience the peace Jesus promised amid disappointment and uncertainty? How can we live with joy and confidence even when we’re pulled into the rapids of life? Our God has promised us a peace that transcends all understanding. And we can accept His promise, trusting that in Him we are safe all along.

Technology's Child

release date: Mar 07, 2023
Technology's Child
How children engage with technology at each stage of development, from toddler to twentysomething, and how they can best be supported. What happens to the little ones, the tweens, and the teenagers, when technology—ubiquitous in the world they inhabit—becomes a critical part of their lives? This timely book Technology''s Child brings much-needed clarity to what we know about technology’s role in child development. Better yet, it provides guidance on how to use what we know to help children of all ages make the most of their digital experiences. From toddlers who are exploring their immediate environment to twentysomethings who are exploring their place in society, technology inevitably and profoundly affects their development. Drawing on her expertise in developmental science and design research, Katie Davis describes what happens when child development and technology design interact, and how this interaction is complicated by children’s individual characteristics and social and cultural contexts. Critically, she explains how a self-directed experience of technology—one initiated, sustained, and ended voluntarily—supports healthy child development, especially when it takes place within the context of community support. Children’s experiences with technology—their “screen time” and digital social relationships—have become an inescapable aspect of growing up. This book, for the first time, identifies the qualitative distinctions between different ages and stages of this engagement, and offers invaluable guidance for parents and teachers navigating the digital landscape, and for technology designers charting the way.

Writers in the Secret Garden

release date: Aug 20, 2019
Writers in the Secret Garden
An in-depth examination of the novel ways young people support and learn from each other though participation in online fanfiction communities. Over the past twenty years, amateur fanfiction writers have published an astonishing amount of fiction in online repositories. More than 1.5 million enthusiastic fanfiction writers—primarily young people in their teens and twenties—have contributed nearly seven million stories and more than 176 million reviews to a single online site, Fanfiction.net. In this book, Cecilia Aragon and Katie Davis provide an in-depth examination of fanfiction writers and fanfiction repositories, finding that these sites are not shallow agglomerations and regurgitations of pop culture but rather online spaces for sophisticated and informal learning. Through their participation in online fanfiction communities, young people find ways to support and learn from one another. Aragon and Davis term this novel system of interactive advice and instruction distributed mentoring, and describe its seven attributes, each of which is supported by an aspect of networked technologies: aggregation, accretion, acceleration, abundance, availability, asynchronicity, and affect. Employing an innovative combination of qualitative and quantitative analyses, they provide an in-depth ethnography, reporting on a nine-month study of three fanfiction sites, and offer a quantitative analysis of lexical diversity in the 61.5 billion words on the Fanfiction.net site. Going beyond fandom, Aragon and Davis consider how distributed mentoring could improve not only other online learning platforms but also formal writing instruction in schools.

Daring to Hope

release date: Oct 03, 2017
Daring to Hope
New York Times bestseller How do you hold on to hope when you don’t get the ending you asked for? When Katie Davis Majors moved to Uganda, accidentally founded a booming organization, and later became the mother of thirteen girls through the miracle of adoption, she determined to weave her life together with the people she desired to serve. But joy often gave way to sorrow as she invested her heart fully in walking alongside people in the grip of poverty, addiction, desperation, and disease. After unexpected tragedy shook her family, for the first time Katie began to wonder, Is God really good? Does He really love us? When she turned to Him with her questions, God spoke truth to her heart and drew her even deeper into relationship with Him. Daring to Hope is an invitation to cling to the God of the impossible—the God who whispers His love to us in the quiet, in the mundane, when our prayers are not answered the way we want or the miracle doesn’t come. It’s about a mother discovering the extraordinary strength it takes to be ordinary. It’s about choosing faith no matter the circumstance and about encountering God’s goodness in the least expected places. Though your heartaches and dreams may take a different shape, you will find your own questions echoed in these pages. You’ll be reminded of the gifts of joy in the midst of sorrow. And you’ll hear God’s whisper: Hold on to hope. I will meet you here.

Thousands of Positive Reviews
Young people worldwide are participating in ever-increasing numbers in online fan communities. Far from mere shallow repositories of pop culture, these sites are accumulating significant evidence that sophisticated informal learning is taking place online in novel and unexpected ways. In order to understand and analyze in more detail how learning might be occurring, we conducted an in-depth nine-month ethnographic investigation of online fanfiction communities, including participant observation and fanfiction author interviews. Our observations led to the development of a theory we term distributed mentoring, which we present in detail in this paper. Distributed mentoring exemplifies one instance of how networked technology affords new extensions of behaviors that were previously bounded by time and space. Distributed mentoring holds potential for application beyond the spontaneous mentoring observed in this investigation and may help students receive diverse, thoughtful feedback in formal learning environments as well.

Generazione App

La generación APP

release date: Feb 04, 2014

If only Addy could escape into the cartoon world of her journal, or hang out with her best friend, Jackie. The only problem is—and this is probably because of the curse—Jackie is now Addy''s ex-best friend since one particular comic from her journal was somehow shown to the entire school. Awake Joy

release date: Feb 01, 2008
Awake Joy
Encouraged by Eckhart Tolle, Awake Joy is a unique and comprehensive guide to awakening and enlightenment. It points to the radiant joy that is beyond the thinking mind, the separate sense of self, its idea of separation and identification with form. Katie Davis takes the mind-identified reader through their personal growth strategies to awakening. She then deepens to Self-discovery or what we might call the realization of the Heart. The book then shifts to conscious living by embracing humanity''s diversity and the earth as none other than the Essence. The journey requires presence, not practices, although the book offers experiments and meditations to free the ego. This book is designed to be your companion throughout your life''s journey to true and lasting fulfillment. It will be a trusted resource again and again. This A-Z handbook stands free of concepts and points pragmatically for those who are ready to surrender suffering for themselves, their families, the schools and the world

The Beginning of the Tumbling

release date: Nov 07, 2004
The Beginning of the Tumbling
The Beginning of the Tumbling is a book of poetry, which I have been working on for the past three years. It consists of many poems, which were revised continuously and well thought out for quite some time. These chosen poems are just the beginning of so much I want to say and expand upon. I focus on mental health, self exploration, family issues, well-being, and childhood memories. It is a collection of outpourings, but not in random thoughts or ranting. I have worked very hard to make these poems into aspects people want to read, and make them look into themselves. I know many people can even relate to much of what I write about through the different range of poems. Working through this book has made me see I have so much to say to that others will completely enjoy as their own realizations and thoughts come into light. The Beginning of the Tumbling is a book of work I am very proud of because of the selected prose, style, and nature I choose to write in; it is very reader-friendly. I will always continue the tumbling, exposing, and revelations. From the Author I am a freelance writer and hoping to become an established author, and feel at this time that self-publishing is the way to go. I have experienced many different kinds of aspects, events, and drastic life-altering things throughout my life. I feel my works really bring this across. I really want my writing to be thought as relative and tangible in many different peoples'' lives. Excerpts
