Songwriters Bleed Ink
Cowboys bleed blood and dust... Pretty woman perfectly pink... Songwriters bleed ink. The story of two songwriters, August Teagarden and Ben Goode, aka, Johnny B Good. Friends and blood brothers. Bitter enemies and rivals. The book Songwriters Bleed Ink pulls back the fragile veil of music, and lets you peek into the world of Nashville, Music Row, the creative process. The agony. The ecstasy. The thrill of the roller coaster''s rise and fall. It''s a long way down that often ends in the bitter breaking of a writer into a million pieces. Caught between the letting go and the holding on. This isn''t just a story, it''s a love song, a tale of survival and redemption, but not for all... As Hank so aptly sang, "I''ll never get out of this world alive." Yesterday today and when tomorrow''s gone... I will remember them... I am the song... Songwriters Bleed Ink.

Chapter 12 Taking Drugs to Help Others

release date: Jan 01, 2016
Chapter 12 Taking Drugs to Help Others
Some risky medical treatments confer no benefit on the patient who undergoes the intervention though they do benefit third parties. It is commonly thought to be unethical for doctors to provide such treatments even if the patient agrees to undergo them; doing so violates the requirement that medical professionals provide only treatments that are in the best interests of the patient. I present a case for revising this requirement so as to allow individuals to undergo risky medical treatments for the benefit of others.

To Wawa with Love

release date: Apr 03, 2012
To Wawa with Love
When Tom Douglas''s father returned home after the Second World War, he was forced to move his family from Sault Ste. Marie north to Wawa, where he was the timekeeper at the Helen Mine. Although his parents were upset by the move, Tom was thrilled. In the forties, Wawa was still a wooden-sidewalked mud wallow of a mining town, and for a city kid, nothing could have been more exciting. To Wawa with Love is a nostalgic collection of true stories about a time in northern Ontario that still exists only in the author''s imagination. These are light-hearted stories about a town teeming with colourful characters, like Doc MacTavish, Wawa''s veterinarian and part-time dentist; magical places, like the Lions Club Hall, where a quarter could buy a kid an afternoon at the movies; and comical adventures, like the rescue of Rocky Mitchell from the bottom of the school outhouse on a sub-zero January day. These warm and humorous vignettes about the way life used to be will delight readers of all ages.

Canadian Spies

release date: Oct 14, 2003
Canadian Spies
During World War II, some of the most treacherous jobs were those performed by men and women located deep within enemy territory. Always in danger of being exposed and subjected to torture, imprisonment, and even death, their stories are chilling accounts of bravery and luck--and, in some cases, what happens when the luck runs out.

Scapegoats

release date: Sep 11, 2002
Scapegoats
Scapegoats are a universal phenomenon, appearing in all societies at all times in groups large and small, in public and private organizations. Hardly a week passes without some media reference to someone or something being made a scapegoat. Tom Douglas examines the process of scapegoating from the perspectives of victims and perpetrators, tracing its development from earliest times as rite of atonement to the modern forms of the avoidance of blame and the victimisation of innocents. The differences and similarities between the ancient and modern forms are examined to reveal that despite the modern logical explanations of behaviour, the mystical element in the form of superstition is still evident. Directly responding to the Diploma in Social Work''s call for texts on anti-discriminatory practice Scapegoats should become essential reading for all social workers in training and practice. Will also be a invaluable resource for all professionals engaging in groupwork and group workers in training.

A Theory of Groupwork Practice

release date: Feb 02, 1993
A Theory of Groupwork Practice
A Theory of Groupwork Practice is based on the results of the search for the fundamental similarities in the practice of all groupworkers in whatever profession or setting they may operate. The theoretical concepts used by groupworkers may be widely variant, but what workers actually do when in interaction with the groups they create or adapt shows remarkable similarities which are deeper and more influential than the concepts in promoting or preventing successful group outcomes. This book presents the foundations of a coherent theory of group work practice based on these similarities.
