What Meanth This
As a non -traditional student I majored in liberal studies with a particularfocus on human services and black studies. After changing my major frombusiness to liberal studies my academic advisor allowed me to take courses that Ienjoyed and African American studies were somewhere at the top of the list. As Iworked on my Bachelor's degree at first I enrolled in black history classes.I did an Independent Study on the Martin Luther King Assassination ConspiracyTrial were the circuit court awarded his family 1$ because of their civil suit.Reading this 750 -page book made you believe that the wrong man was persecutedfor this trial. Especially because King had so many enemies, some in high places, because of his protest of the Vietnam War.My advisors and chairs knew I enjoyed these classes. This is where Ilearned about privilege, stereotypes and ethnic disparities. The saga is a bitdispiriting from my perspective, although I must contend that in my 60 yearsmany positive changes have occurred in this country. We have a long way togo and are farther along than many places. Substitute for race any of thefollowing: religion, gender, ethnicity, physical appearance-you end up withbiases that are similar but generally not as deep-seated.

Terry Richardson's Diary 2010

release date: Jan 01, 2013
Terry Richardson's Diary 2010
Since September 2009, the legendary fashion and portrait photographer Terry Richardson has been keeping an online photo diary, posting a new picture every day. These posts typically contain informal portraits of whomever Richardson is shooting, or whichever celebrity, artist or other public figure has dropped by the studio--either for an actual sitting or perhaps to discuss an upcoming project. Also posted to the site are examples of Richardson's street photography--snaps of street signs, buildings and sights around New York. As with Andy Warhol's Time Capsules, the accumulation of these candid, off-the-cuff photographs over the past three years has amounted to a social map of the most interesting people on the fashion, art, political and music scenes. Equal parts red carpet and intimate salon, the parade of people who enter Richardson's studio is boggling in its diversity. Amongst the thousands featured in Terry Richardson's Diary 2010 are Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Angela Westberry, Frank Ocean, Richard Prince, Ryan McGinley, Donatella Versace and Kate Moss. This tantalizing array of images also provides a sense of how many of our media and pop culture images are shaped by the creative energies of one talented individual. The book is presented in a yearbook format to accentuate its origins as a daily practice. Known for his punk-rock sensibility and willingness to take a fresh, edgy approach to portrait, fashion and documentary photography, Terry Richardson (born 1965) boasts a list of fashion clients including Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent. His editorial work has been featured in publications ranging from Rolling Stone to Vogue and Vice.

THE KAÇKAR

THE KAÇKAR
The Kackar Mountains are part of the Pontic Alps, a glaciated, granite mountain range which hugs the southcoast of the Black Sea, extending from the Caucasus towards Istanbul. The mountain range is lushly woodedon the north, with pines succeeded at lower levels by chestnut, hornbeam and beech trees, with tea plantations and hazlenut groves spilling down towards the waves. The contrasting southern slopes are patched by summer pastures where black bulls graze and lakes, springs and streams are plentiful and clear. This guidebook and map describes 32 trekking routes in Turkey?s Kackar mountains, ranging from half-daywalks to multi-day treks. You can cross the passes between the granite spires by paved pack-horse routes or walk traditional footpaths between timeless villages and high pastures where hardy locals graze their flocks. The guide also includes comprehensive historical and cultural details of the area and clear colour photographs. The guide includes a 2 sided full colour contour map, 75cm x 48cm. An essential guide for a relatively un-chartered trekking destination.

Bob Richardson

release date: Jan 01, 2007
Bob Richardson
Fashion photographer Bob Richardson (1928-2005) first began to publish his powerful, transgressive and emotionally charged black-and-white images in the high-fashion press of the 1960s, highlighting the new freedoms and attendant disillusions of the era in a distinctive, maverick style that matched his own edgy way of life. According to Cathy Horyn of The New York Times, ""Mr. Richardson's pictures were radical because, more than showing youthful fashion in a liberated way, they sought to expose the life dramas that were then consuming young people."" They were dark and conflicted, abject and suggestive, fleeting, broken, knowing and yearning. Always a cult photographer (and widely credited with influencing such peers as Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel and Bruce Weber), Richardson was also plagued by schizophrenia, and he lived hard-experimenting freely with sex and drugs throughout a life of extreme highs and lows. For example, he is perhaps most famous for the profoundly compelling portraits he made of his then-partner and muse Angelica Houston in the 1970s, while the 1980s found him homeless and living on the streets of Los Angeles. This highly-anticipated, beautifully-produced volume is the first ever dedicated to Richardson's oeuvre. Put together by his son, the equally renowned photographer Terry Richardson, it collects what remains of the original work, much of which was destroyed over the course of Richardson's unpredictable career.

Kibosh

release date: Jan 01, 2004
Kibosh
The last several decades have seen the emergence of a remarkable phenomenon: a Jewish "rebirth" that is occurring throughout Africa. A variety of different ethnic groups proclaim that they are returning to long-forgotten Jewish roots, and African clans trace their lineage to the Lost Tribes of Israel. Africans have encountered Jewish myths and traditions in multiple forms and various ways. The context and circumstances of these encounters have gradually led, within some African societies,to the elaboration of a new Jewish identity connected with that of the Diaspora. This book presents, one by one, the different groups of Black Jews in western, central, eastern, and southern Africa and the ways in which they have used and imagined their oral history and traditional customs to construct a distinct Jewish identity. It explores the ways in which Africans have interacted with the ancient mythological sub-strata of both western and African ideas of Judaism. It particularly seeks to identify and to assess colonial influences and their internalization by African societies in the shaping of new African religious identities. The book also examines how, in the absence of recorded African history, the eminently malleable accounts of Jewish lineage developed by African groups co-exist with the possible historical traces of a Jewish presence in Africa. This elegant and well-researched book goes beyond the well-known case of the Falasha of Ethiopia, examining the trend towards Judaism in Africa at large, and exploring, too, the interdisciplinary concepts of "metaphorical Diaspora," global and transnational identities, and colonization.

The Cross-Autocorrelation of Size-Based Portfolio Returns is Not an Artifact of Portfolio Autocorrelation

release date: Jan 01, 2001
The Cross-Autocorrelation of Size-Based Portfolio Returns is Not an Artifact of Portfolio Autocorrelation
Prior studies find evidence of asymmetric size-based portfolio return cross-autocorrelations where lagged large-firm returns lead current small-firm returns. However, Boudoukh, Richardson, and Whitelaw (1994) question whether this economic relationship is independent of the impact of portfolio return autocorrelation. We formally test for this independence using size-based portfolios of New York and American Stock Exchange securities and, separately, portfolios of NASDAQ securities. Results from Granger (1969) causality regressions indicate that, across all markets, lagged large-firm returns predict current small-firm returns, even after controlling for autocorrelation in small-firm returns. These cross-autocorrelation patterns are stronger for NASDAQ securities.
