Data Visualization

release date: Nov 18, 2022
Data Visualization
In our increasingly data-driven world, it''s more important than ever to have accessible ways to view and understand data. After all, the demand for data skills in employees is steadily increasing each year. Employees and business owners at every level need to have an understanding of data and of its impact. That''s where data visualization comes in handy. With the goal of making data more accessible and understandable, data visualization in the form of dashboards is the go-to tool for many businesses to analyze and share information. Data visualization is the practice of translating information into a visual context, such as a map or graph, to make data easier for the human brain to understand and pull insights from. The main goal of data visualization is to make it easier to identify patterns, trends and outliers in large data sets. The term is often used interchangeably with others, including information graphics, information visualization and statistical graphics. Data visualization is one of the steps of the data science process, which states that after data has been collected, processed and modeled, it must be visualized for conclusions to be made. Data visualization is also an element of the broader data presentation architecture (DPA) discipline, which aims to identify, locate, manipulate, format and deliver data in the most efficient way possible. Data visualization is important for almost every career. It can be used by teachers to display student test results, by computer scientists exploring advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) or by executives looking to share information with stakeholders. It also plays an important role in big data projects. As businesses accumulated massive collections of data during the early years of the big data trend, they needed a way to quickly and easily get an overview of their data. Visualization tools were a natural fit. Ready to learn more? Get a copy of this book now.

The Indian Rebellion, 1857-1859

release date: Sep 23, 2020
The Indian Rebellion, 1857-1859
"Frey''s concise and readable history of the Indian Rebellion is an excellent introduction to one of the most important wars of the nineteenth century. The rebellion lasted more than a year and pitted broad sections of north Indian society against the British East India Company. British victory consolidated colonial rule that would only be dislodged by twentieth-century nationalist movements. Frey provides a crystal-clear account of the causes, principal events, and consequences of the rebellion. Equally importantly, he deftly discusses why the rebellion remains controversial. Well-chosen documents add texture to the analysis. This is the best short history of the rebellion in print." --Ian Barrow, Middlebury College

Katerina

release date: Jul 16, 2019
Katerina
From the New York Times bestselling author of A Million Little Pieces and Bright Shiny Morning comes Katerina, James Frey’s highly anticipated new novel set in 1992 Paris and contemporary Los Angeles. A kiss, a touch. A smile and a beating heart. Love and sex and dreams, art and drugs and the madness of youth. Betrayal and heartbreak, regret and pain, the melancholy of age. Katerina, the explosive new novel by America’s most controversial writer, is a sweeping love story alternating between 1992 Paris and Los Angeles in 2018. At its center are a young writer and a young model on the verge of fame, both reckless, impulsive, addicted, and deeply in love. Twenty-five years later, the writer is rich, famous, and numb, and he wants to drive his car into a tree, when he receives an anonymous message that draws him back to the life, and possibly the love, he abandoned years prior. Written in the same percussive, propulsive, dazzling, breathtaking style as A Million Little Pieces, Katerina echoes and complements that most controversial of memoirs, and plays with the same issues of fiction and reality that created, nearly destroyed, and then recreated James Frey in the American imagination.

Friedrich Kunath

release date: Dec 04, 2018
Friedrich Kunath
The first major monograph devoted to the witty paintings and sculpture of Los Angeles–based artist Friedrich Kunath. From his precipitous rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Friedrich Kunath has been making art that beautifully and lyrically combines the experience of the ordinary with the sublime. In the first major monograph devoted to the past fifteen years of his work, the reader sees how the artist poignantly yet playfully distills the fundamentals of human emotion—desire, loneliness, and anxiety—creating comically tragic scenes in which human beings try to find their way in the world. Shifting easily between genres and modes of making—from painting to installation and even video—the work always maintains his signature wit and humor, laced with melancholy. The artist has considered the ideas that run throughout his oeuvre and offers new insights by gathering works across media that are connected conceptually in eight chapters, organized thematically rather than chronologically. Art historian James Elkins takes an historical approach to Kunath’s work, linking him to both recent and older traditions of European painting. Ariana Reines contributes a poem inspired by the artist’s work and James Frey writes a short essay inspired by Kunath’s persona. The artist and John McEnroe, the famed tennis player, have a spirited conversation about their shared passion for the game of tennis.

Words to Live By

Words to Live By
In 1999, when we had our first daughter, I was contemplating how I would raise my new beautiful child, and I was thinking about how I can best educate her and my other children about values, morals, and other key thoughts about life. School offers education. Religion offers some values and morals. Parents offer most of it, sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally. So I created a Words To Live By (WTLB) book, like a dictionary, which lists concepts like honesty, love, persistence, etc. with a definition that I created, with my wifes input. I then turned it into a workbook with one word per page and space below for notes. For years we would discuss these ideas with my two daughters and they would draw pictures and make notes in the blank space. As they got older, they were less inclined to draw and more open to quotes and references from adults. I started sharing some of these quotes along with the Words To Live By with strangers and friends in a blog and in emails. I still try to send a different one out almost every Friday, hence where the title Frey Freyday came from. Initially these Words To Live By were designed to help only my daughters. During difficult times, I found that reflecting on these concepts brought value to me and they helped me stay focused. Later I shared them with both strangers and friends and they too found the Words To Live By helpful, inspirational and enjoyable. Some of them shared them with others and the circle kept growing, more good feedback came in, and people continue to encourage me. I am now sharing them with you. I live in the Laurel Highlands east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my wife Jill and two daughters, Emma and Abby. We have a circle of great friends and family. We enjoy time with our loved ones and friends; the laughter and good times together makes life better.
