IBM Private, Public, and Hybrid Cloud Storage Solutions

release date: Nov 27, 2018
IBM Private, Public, and Hybrid Cloud Storage Solutions
This IBM® RedpaperTM publication takes you on a journey that surveys cloud computing to answer several fundamental questions about storage cloud technology. What are storage clouds? How can a storage cloud help solve your current and future data storage business requirements? What can IBM do to help you implement a storage cloud solution that addresses these needs? This paper shows how IBM storage clouds use the extensive cloud computing experience, services, proven technologies, and products of IBM to support a smart storage cloud solution designed for your storage optimization efforts. Clients face many common storage challenges and some have variations that make them unique. It describes various successful client storage cloud implementations and the options that are available to meet your current needs and position you to avoid storage issues in the future. IBM CloudTM Services (IBM Cloud Managed Services® and IBM SoftLayer®) are highlighted as well as the contributions of IBM to OpenStack cloud storage. This paper is intended for anyone who wants to learn about storage clouds and how IBM addresses data storage challenges with smart storage cloud solutions. It is suitable for IBM clients, storage solution integrators, and IBM specialist sales representatives.

IBM Software-Defined Storage Guide

release date: Jul 21, 2018
IBM Software-Defined Storage Guide
Today, new business models in the marketplace coexist with traditional ones and their well-established IT architectures. They generate new business needs and new IT requirements that can only be satisfied by new service models and new technological approaches. These changes are reshaping traditional IT concepts. Cloud in its three main variants (Public, Hybrid, and Private) represents the major and most viable answer to those IT requirements, and software-defined infrastructure (SDI) is its major technological enabler. IBM® technology, with its rich and complete set of storage hardware and software products, supports SDI both in an open standard framework and in other vendors'' environments. IBM services are able to deliver solutions to the customers with their extensive knowledge of the topic and the experiences gained in partnership with clients. This IBM RedpaperTM publication focuses on software-defined storage (SDS) and IBM Storage Systems product offerings for software-defined environments (SDEs). It also provides use case examples across various industries that cover different client needs, proposed solutions, and results. This paper can help you to understand current organizational capabilities and challenges, and to identify specific business objectives to be achieved by implementing an SDS solution in your enterprise.

Analysis of Network and Non-network Factors on Traveler Choice Toward Improving Modeling Accuracy for Better Transportation Decisionmaking

release date: Jan 01, 2014
Analysis of Network and Non-network Factors on Traveler Choice Toward Improving Modeling Accuracy for Better Transportation Decisionmaking
The need to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and make the U.S. transportation system and cities more sustainable has given rise to various programs, technologies, and policies. The effectiveness of these interventions depends on how users eventually respond and, in some instances, modify their travel behavior. While significant advances have taken place over the past 50 years in the field of travel behavior research and travel demand forecasting, the ability to reliably predict the direction and magnitude of behavioral responses to various network and non-network factors and interventions remains limited. Many experts have called for better data collection and analysis methods and better integration of behavior models with supply analysis tools. This report provides a synthesis of the state of knowledge in travel behavior research and showcases how to improve current models with relevant behavior realism through six case studies. These case studies range from long-term policy interventions (e.g., urban design policy affecting land use and neighborhood walkability), to short-term en-route interventions (e.g., traveler information systems for weather-responsive system management). The case studies also include interventions aimed at environmental as well as congestion avoidance objectives. The applications provide an enhanced capability to capture traveler choices in both the main evaluation tools as well as in supporting the design process actively. This multifaceted research initiative cuts across several Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) programs such as the Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty; Office of Operations; Office of Safety; and Office of Research, Development, and Technology. This study will facilitate implementation of a balanced, cross-cutting effort to better understand the topic of traveler choice, and builds on current activities related to modeling and analysis across FHWA, professional associations, and academia.

Eat to Win for Permanent Fat Loss

release date: May 01, 2001
Eat to Win for Permanent Fat Loss
In the 1980s, Robert Haas fueled a diet revolution with his number one bestseller Eat to Win. Now, with Eat to Win for Permanent Fat Loss, he shows you not only how to lose weight and dramatically improve your performance in all areas of life, but also how to keep the fat off--forever. Based on cutting-edge research on how and why our bodies use carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, Haas created a "Mediterrasian" diet that combines the best and healthiest aspects of diets from the regions where people live the longest. His approach features a ratio of 50 percent carbohydrates, which includes grains, fruits, and vegetables; 25 percent protein; and 25 percent fat. Haas also provides the specific reasons why this is the ultimate ratio for maximum energy, fitness, and permanent fat loss. Eat to Win for Permanent Fat Loss offers a remarkably flexible, healthy food plan that encourages both the use of the new "functional" foods, such as tofu hot dogs and soy-chicken nuggets, and treats that most diet plans forbid entirely, such as chocolate, wine, and coffee. In fact, Haas tells you why enjoying chocolate and coffee every day could actually make you healthier, providing both satisfaction and valuable phytonutrients that prevent illness. It''s the kind of eating plan that works for the entire family. As for exercise, Haas''s recommendation is just as simple: Burn a minimum of 300 calories--the equivalent of 45 minutes of walking--throughout the day, through any activity you choose. Haas’s combined diet and exercise program changes lives.
