How We Can Win

release date: Jan 10, 2023
How We Can Win
A breakdown of the economic and social injustices facing Black people and other marginalized citizens, inspired by political activist Kimberly Jones’s viral video “How Can We Win” “So if I played four hundred rounds of Monopoly with you and I had to play and give you every dime that I made, and then for fifty years, every time that I played, if you didn’t like what I did, you got to burn it like they did in Tulsa and like they did in Rosewood, how can you win? How can you win?” When Kimberly Jones declared these words amid the protests spurred by the murder of George Floyd, she gave a history lesson that in just over six minutes captured the economic struggles of Black people in America. Within days the video had been viewed by millions of people around the world, riveted by Jones’s damning—and stunningly succinct—analysis of the enduring disparities Black Americans face. In How We Can Win, Jones delves into the impacts of systemic racism and reveals how her formative years in Chicago gave birth to a lifelong devotion to justice. Here, in a vital expansion of her declaration, she calls for Reconstruction 2.0, a multilayered plan to reclaim economic and social restitutions—those restitutions promised with emancipation but blocked, again and again, for more than 150 years. And, most of all, Jones delivers strategies for how we can effect change as citizens and allies while nurturing ourselves—the most valuable asset we have—in the fight against a system that is still rigged.

Global Security Watch—Egypt

release date: Jun 30, 2008
Global Security Watch—Egypt
Despite the appearance of political and military stability, Egypt may be standing at the edge of a precipice as the state remains grounded in rigid authoritarianism while the population, including a struggling civil society, readies itself to make the leap to democratization. This characterization has far-reaching implications for relations between citizens and the government, as well as Egypt's foreign affairs posture, particularly in the Middle East. State repression of civil, political, and religious actors; the ineffectual provision of social services; and two religious divides, between Coptic Christianity and Islam on the one hand, and secular and conservative Islamic traditions on the other, make for an incendiary domestic environment. The resulting over-reliance on security services to quash dissent could result in a population more amenable to less democratic methods of regime change and/or the development of stronger linkages between regional Islamist groups, whether they be political, militant, or some combination thereof. Global Security Watch—Egypt explores the historical background that created the current realities in Egypt and examines the players and events influencing the nation today. It concludes with a series of recommendations for the Egyptian political establishment, and for the American government, in the belief that meaningful political and policy changes in Egypt can lead to an improvement in human rights, democracy, justice, stability, and security for Egypt, and an improved partnership between Egypt and the United States.

The Long Walk to School

release date: Oct 20, 2017
The Long Walk to School
At the age of 9, Ruth loved school. She didn't much care for the walk she had to make to get there every day, however, and didn't really enjoy the chores that she and her sisters had to do each day as well. Racial segregation was alive and well in those days and white Americans kept African Americans in a subordinate status by denying them equal access to public facilities, such as buses, theaters and restaurants. When allowed into auditoriums and theaters, blacks occupied separate sections. They also attended segregated schools and churches, like Ruth and her family. But this was how life was in 1933, at school, in the community and around the farm where she lived and played. Read her absorbing story here, to get a feel for what life was like in the United States not so very long ago.

release date: Aug 02, 2017
And You Shall Decree a Thing
Job 22:28 states, "Thou shalt also decree a thing and it shall be established unto thee and the light shall shine upon thy ways." This scripture is a powerful attestment to the power of spoken words, When we decree and declare according to God's Word, we are operating in our dominion authority and activating our power to establish God's will in the earth. This book reveals the importance of applying the biblical concept of decreeing and declaring to every area of our lives. God is constantly perfecting those things concerning us, however we have a part to play in this process. One of our major responsibilities, as people of faith, is to stand uncompromisingly upon God's word. No matter what we are faced with, we must say the same thing that God says about our situations. This book is designed to provide easy access to biblical declarations that can be utilized to speak life and truth over particular areas and situations that we face on a daily basis. When we are diligent to speak God's promises and not our problems, we will see the dark places of our lives illuminated. This book highlights the foundational truths found in the Bible and challenges us to Decide, Decree, and Declare according to its Holy Spirit-inspired instructions. Doing so allows the light of the Word to shine upon our ways!

If we will trust Him, what could be the worst season of our lives will be turned into the best, because God works all things together for our good.
