Jozua (Joost) Marius Willem van der Poorten Schwartz was a Dutch author, well-known in the US and the UK, who, between 1885 and 1912, authored in English, under the pen-name Maarten Maartens, 14 novels and four volumes of short stories. President Ted Roosevelt received him in the White House in 1907 to discuss his writing.
