Det hændte ved Aquila

release date: Jun 23, 2025

Poe's Brother

release date: Dec 07, 2022
Poe's Brother
Few people are even aware that Edgar Allan Poe had an elder brother. That he had, and that the relations of the two young poets were both interesting and romantic. William Henry Leonard Poe, the elder brother of Edgar Allan Poe, was also a poet. He did not live long enough to show whether he too, like his younger brother, might have too attained fame. His work, however, given a similarity in temperament and attitude, tend to throw a helpful light on one of the most obscure and mysterious passages in the life of a great poet. The material here collected therefore represents all the surviving prose and poetry by Poe''s brother - now representing the collected Poems of William Henry Leonard Poe, together with a short account of his tragic life, an early romance of Edgar Allan Poe and some other unknown incidents in the lives of the two Poe brothers ... with a preface, introduction, comment and facsimiles of newly discovered Poe documents. A true must-have for any collector, critic, or reader of the works of Poe.

There is no love so real to me As the cold passion of the sea. There is no little, wind-swept town By harbors where the roads go down, Or headland gray that sits and sips The cup of ocean at its lips, And gazes at the far-off ships— Or tree or house or friend so real As visions and the dreams I feel.

Toward the Flame

release date: Jan 01, 2003
Toward the Flame
Considered by many to be the finest American combat memoir of the First World War, Hervey Allen?s Toward the Flame vividly chronicles the experiences of the Twenty-eighth Division in the summer of 1918. Made up primarily of Pennsylvania National Guardsmen, the Twenty-eighth Division saw extensive action on the Western Front. The story begins with Lieutenant Allen and his men marching inland from the French coast and ends with their participation in the disastrous battle for the village of Fismette. Allen was a talented observer, and the men with whom he served emerge as well-rounded characters against the horrific backdrop of the war. ø As a historical document, Toward the Flame is significant for its highly detailed account of the controversial military action at Fismette. At the same time, it easily stands as a work of literature. Clear-eyed and unsentimental, Allen employs the novelist?s powers of description to create a harrowing portrait of coalition war at its worst.
