This book presents a stylistic framework for analysing embodiment in lyric texts. While the assumption that our minds are embodied underlies most approaches in cognitive stylistics (and beyond), a systematic account of the linguistic patterns through which the body may be manifested in poetic expression has not yet been provided. Aiming to fill this gap, the book focuses on contemporary lyric texts that prominently engage the senses in depicting past experiences. Drawing its tools mainly from Cognitive Grammar and research on conceptual metaphors and iconicity, the book investigates how sensory language gives rise to simulated embodied responses. In doing so, the book views poetic expression as a complex interplay of modalities and seeks to expand the concept of the lyric by incorporating digital poetry, song lyrics, performance poetry and lyrical prose among its case studies. The book furthermore brings in current cognitive scientific research on the workings of memory to the analysis of sensory memory, most centrally the psychological phenomenon of mental time travel. It will be of interest to students and scholars working on stylistics, literary studies, and multimodal and intermedial studies.

This mixed-methods study examined the effects of participation in a 10-week therapeutic horseback riding program on communicative behaviors in participants diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder or Down syndrome. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors utilized the Naples Equestrian Challenge Participant Initial Evaluation to complete a pre-evaluation prior to the first riding session and a post-evaluation during the last session. Following the post-evaluation, the researcher collected qualitative data through conducting parent interviews. The study included 16 participants (M = 12.62; age range 5-23 years old, 8 females and 8 males). Change scores for each participant were calculated and an aggregated mean for pre- and post-evaluations were determined and results indicated increases in all seven communication indicators. Analysis of parent interviews also revealed improvements in communicative skills and behaviors. Overall, results indicate improvements in communication for children and adolescents with developmental disability and the need to further investigate therapeutic horseback riding as an efficacious therapy.

This master thesis examines how a network of project leaders can contribute to the development of competences within the context of the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture at the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service (DAAS). In this study the development of competences is characterized as a development of individual, group and organizational potential and performance and thereby related to three different levels in the organization. This study primarily concentrates on the individual development of competences and the project leaders from a project network and their experience of participation. The development of group competences is included as far as the empirical data illustrates this level. In addition to this it is discussed whether it is possible to reach an organizational performance given the circumstances. This is examined through a qualitative study consisting of interviews and observation studies. The results of the analysis are elucidated through theories related to transfer, motivation and communities of practice. Based on the analysis it is concluded that this project network contributes to competence development related to the individual and the group and that it is possible to reach an organizational performance and thereby organizational development. Reaching organisational development is possible as a consequence of the context within the Knowledge Centre, but can be hampered by the project leaders'' apparent lack of motivation to contribute to organizational performance.
