Fads Marketing

release date: Dec 17, 2018
Fads Marketing
This isn''t another book about advertising. It''s an inside look at how companies count on your obsession with food, alcohol, drugs and sex to drive behavior modification-permanently. It''s not enough to build a better Super Bowl commercial (sorry, but true); the new end game is about changing your entire mindset. Consultant to the brands that define our digital lifestyles, Tony Harris holds nothing back while explaining how FADS have become so relevant in a technology-enabled world. With straight-faced candor, he explains that humans are easily manipulated and marketers know it. That''s why the FADS that drive us wild say we''re fat, we''re no fun, we need to relax, and we''ll probably die alone. Anything to get you hooked on the next pea-protein, no whip, grown-in-the-lab latte. Spend 10 minutes with Tony Harris and you''ll walk away knowing ten things you didn''t know before you met him. By the time you finish FADS MARKETING, you''ll have new insights about: Food: What marketers know about food-related trigger points; the five senses and stuffing our faces; specialty foods for special consumers. Alcohol: Why booze and the law is a match made in hell; mainstream alcohol marketing featuring weirdos; everyone''s doing it (selling alcohol). Drugs: Marketers know we love a quick fix; yes, you are depressed; the Cannabis revolution. Sex: Marketers know everyone fears rejection; you''re gross, no sex for you; who needs ''live nude girls'' when you''ve got sex robots? Each chapter features expert interviews and wraps with Harris'' predictions for what''s coming next. Anyone who''s worked with him won''t be surprised to see that some of them are already happening. The only question left is, what book is coming next from Harris himself, and who''s the target?

This is the story of what happened next.

The Legacy of Cornelius Cardew

release date: Mar 03, 2016
The Legacy of Cornelius Cardew
Cornelius Cardew is an enigma. Depending on which sources one consults he is either an influential and iconic figure of British musical culture or a marginal curiosity, a footnote to a misguided musical phenomenon. He is both praised for his uncompromising commitment to world-changing politics, and mocked for being blindly caught up in a maelstrom of naïve political folly. His works are both widely lauded as landmark achievements of the British avant-garde and ridiculed as an archaic and irrelevant footnote to the established musical culture. Even the events of his death are shrouded in mystery and lack a sense of closure. As long ago as 1967, Morton Feldman cited Cardew as an influential figure, central to the future of modern music-making. The extent to which Cardew has been a central figure and a force for new ideas in music forms the backbone to this book. Harris demonstrates that Cardew was an original thinker, a charismatic leader, an able facilitator, and a committed activist. He argues that Cardew exerted considerable influence on numerous individuals and groups, but also demonstrates how the composer''s significance has been variously underestimated, undermined and misrepresented. Cardew''s diverse body of work and activity is here given coherence by its sharing in the values and principles that underpinned the composer''s world view. The apparently disparate and contradictory episodes of Cardew''s career are shown to be fused by a cohesive ''Cardew aesthetic'' that permeates the man, his politics and his music.

Adherens Junctions: from Molecular Mechanisms to Tissue Development and Disease

release date: Jun 07, 2012
Adherens Junctions: from Molecular Mechanisms to Tissue Development and Disease
Cell–cell adhesion is fundamental for the development and homeostasis of animal tissues and organs. Adherens junctions (AJs) are the best understood cell-cell adhesion complexes. In this volume, a group of internationally recognized experts reviews AJ biology over a wide range of organization; from atoms to molecules, to protein complexes, molecular networks, cells, tissues, and overall animal development. AJs have also been an integral part of animal evolution, and play central roles in cancer development, pathogen infection and other diseases. This book addresses major questions encompassing AJ biology. • How did AJs evolve? • How do cadherins and catenins interact to assemble AJs and mediate adhesion? • How do AJs interface with other cellular machinery to couple adhesion with the whole cell? • How do AJs affect cell behaviour and multicellular development? • How can abnormal AJ activity lead to disease?

Knight Without Armor

release date: Mar 01, 2008
Knight Without Armor
There are stories of exciting, if unusual, secret service operations, centering on a senior intelligence officer, using the Knights Templar for his cover. The fast moving action reveals how easy it is to lay oneself open to serious problems with the authorities. Much of the content is based on actual occurrences, whilst other parts have been fictionalized. Completely up-to-date, with even a mention of climate change. Tom Paxton, one of the investigators, carries the reputation of being a descendant of Charles Paxton, the Collector of Customs during the Boston Tea Party. Should you doubt the existence of the Knights Templar, you might well change your opinion when you''ve read this book, and if like millions of TV viewers around the world, you watched the service of remembrance service for Diana, Princess of Wales, you will have noticed how the Royals took precedence over the few politicians invited to attend. Throughout history, the Knights Templar have been close to royal families.

Undercover

release date: Feb 01, 2008
Undercover
Military Intelligence are searching for a suitably qualified secret agent. Captain Sandy Mitchell and his Russian born female partner drop right into the net that takes them to Morocco and then across the Atlantic. The authors have strived to create a short book that fulfills Alfred Hitchcock''s requirements of a storyline that complies with the MacGuffin concept of an exciting plot. A detective thriller with suspense, violence, and very much a page turning novel, that finishes with a surprise ending. The action takes place in Europe, then onto the Caribbean, with a climax in Bermuda, uncovering the need to prevent a possible embarrassment in the highest echelons of the US. At just over 100 pages, written to lead the reader from chapter to chapter, determined to reach the end, which might just confirm their own conclusions regarding the verdicts of the undercover detectives.

Airbridge to Berlin

release date: Feb 01, 2008
Airbridge to Berlin
Describing the immense Allied response to the Russian closure of the road and rail routes into Berlin in 1948. It''s interesting to reflect that at that time, President Vladimir Putin hadn''t even been born, and one wonders how old he was before he heard of the Berlin airlift, that became the World''s largest humantarian relief effort, and cost the lives of 70 Allied aircraft pilots. But it possibly did stop the start of a shooting war. Well illustrated with photographs taken whilst serving with the 1st Bn The Royal Norfolk Regiment in Dusseldorf and Berlin. The airlift is still better remembered in the US than in the EU, except perhaps by elderly Germans in Berlin.

Templar

release date: Feb 01, 2008

His story in this book revolves around the unique, even if small, contribution made by an independent 4-gun troop of 93 (Le Cateau) Battery, Royal Artillery, whilst serving our ''Supremo, '' whose policy became the envy of many US politicians, worried by events in Vietnam.

Tales from the Captain's Table

release date: Mar 01, 2007
Tales from the Captain's Table
Much more than just a tale of sailing against mountainous seas, but a book with every aspect of sailing and motor boating, in many parts of the world. It illustrates how times have changed to the extent the stories are never to be repeated. Providing a more permanent record, it tells how in post-war Britain, we developed a system of teaching and testing recreational users of marine craft of every description. This has now been copied in almost every country with recreational waterborne sports, including a UK approved sailing school in the USA. If all that sounds a mighty bit boring, be assured it has ten most unusual stories with excitement, including projects in China and Nigeria. There are tales of law-breaking villains afloat, and you won''t want to put the book down. Looking for a present for a sea-loving friend? Look no further.
