This book describes an action research approach to engaging respectfully with First Nations communities in a diverse range of contexts, disciplines and projects. The Fathers Reading Every Day (FRED) is an evidence-based literacy programme designed to encourage fathers to read to their children daily. The intervention was developed in the USA and is delivered through schools. This report presents the findings of a trial of the program in England, conducted in nine primary schools across areas of marked social deprivation and poor educational outcomes in south London. Data for 309 children were recorded: for children largely in Years 1 and 4. The intervention aimed to improve father participation, child educational outcomes and literacy skills, and child behaviour and wellbeing.
