World War C

release date: Sep 27, 2022
World War C
CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, MD, offers an accessible, data-packed answer to our biggest questions about Covid-19: What have we learned about this pandemic and how can we prepare for—or prevent—the next one? As America’s favorite frontline Covid-19 health journalist, Dr. Sanjay Gupta has barely left his primetime seat in his makeshift studio basement since the pandemic began (other than to perform brain surgery). He’s had insider access to the drama’s unfolding, including exclusive conversations with the world’s top public health experts and behind-the-scenes scientists racing to find treatments and cures. And now he’s sharing what he’s learned in a book that will answer not only all our questions about what happened, but also about how our world will change in the years ahead, even once we’re back to “normal.” Gupta argues that we need to prepare for a new era where pandemics will be more frequent, and possibly even more deadly. As the doctor who’s been holding America’s hand through the crisis with compassion, clarity, and well-earned wisdom, he gives you the unvarnished story behind the pandemic, including insights about the novel virus’s behavior, and offers practical tools to ready ourselves for what lies ahead. He answers critical questions: Can we stamp out the virus for good (and if not, how do we live with it)? Should we put our parents in a nursing home? Where should we live? What should we stockpile? What should we know before taking a trip? Does it make sense to spend more on health insurance to deal with any long-term effects? How do you decide when it’s safe to go to a public pool or schedule elective surgery? What should Covid survivors know about protecting their future health? What if you become a long-hauler with chronic health challenges stemming? World War C will give you hope for the future along with real information that leaves you more resilient and secure.

Molecular insight: SERPINB3 and AR sensitivity might reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection and complications in prostate cancer patients receiving androgen-deprivation therapy

release date: Jun 17, 2021
Molecular insight: SERPINB3 and AR sensitivity might reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection and complications in prostate cancer patients receiving androgen-deprivation therapy
SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) entry into host cells is facilitated by the transmembrane protease TMPRSS2[1], which is expressed in both the lungs and prostate tissue[2]. Pre-clinical data suggest that TMPRSS2 expression can be modulated by the androgen receptor (AR)[3] and that androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) might protect patients from SARS-CoV-2 infection and reduces disease severity[4]. In a longitudinal study, Montopoli et al.[5], demonstrated that prostate cancer patients receiving ADT were likely to have four times less SARS-CoV-2 infection rates and disease severity compared with non-ADT patients. This study was supported by Patel et al.[4], where 58 prostate cancer patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 exhibited low disease severity and concluded that ADT might limit the severity of COVID-19 infection. However a study from Kwon et al.[6], was in disagreement with the above findings and revealed no association between ADT treatment and its protection against COVID-19 infection. Subsequently, Klein et al.[7] studying a cohort of prostate cancer patients who received ADT, the percentage rates of positive and negative COVID-19 cases were almost the same, 5.6% and 5.8% (OR = 0.93; P = 0.8), highlighting that ADT treatment does not appear to be protective against COVID-19 infection.

Revival of Fortunes of a Navratna Company
This great memoir is a book that should find place in libraries of all PSUs since it deals at length on the turnaround of a Company, which being a service provider, has direct interfaces with other PSUs and private companies who are its clients. This book will enable all the companies as a matter of fact, to evolve their turnaround strategies through a practical vision outlined in the book. It certainly will enable the professional fraternity to view a knowledge Organization like EIL in a different perspective and understand and appreciate, its inherent challenges and aspirations. Surely, this could be a ready reckoner for all the companies especially PSUs, since they share the same challenges. A very conspicuous and beautiful aspect of the Book is that the exciting narrative of taking EIL to new heights, moves forward with the help of a few Notes, a vehicle of internal correspondence in EIL. This is natural, as during Mr Sanjay Gupta''s time, these Notes became a powerful means of communication with top management, middle management and general employees, covering Finance, Strategy, leadership, planning and scheduling to emphasize on timely and quality performance as a key deliverable. Going beyond the ordinary these communications became a rich source of Management policy initiatives, modus operandi, detailed description of policies & procedures, delineating of Strategies, passing information of general interest, messages from Chairman on important occasions and festivals, and sharing of information on engineering, technology and management philosophies. A wealth of knowledge was shared in this manner and very subtly, the process of turnaround took shape, all the while this unique approach of communication making way for wider participation and discussion. This was an avenue playing a very vital role in formulation of polices and strategies and sharing them with employees en masse, enabling them to understand and relate with critical policy changes. These writings are gems in communication, which should be seriously read by management experts and thoroughly explored for the treasure of knowledge contained therein on every conceivable subject of management, showing Mr Gupta''s clarity of vision and how he set about his task in a systematic manner. This book traverses the historical rise of EIL and its contributions to the Nation in the field of engineering and technology and preserving wealth of the Nation by providing critical technical services indigenously. The meteoric rise of EIL during the tenure of Mr Sanjay Gupta owing to his courageous and charismatic leadership, makes the story exciting, full of interesting twists by way of jobs won at various points of time and radical and dynamic changes, restructuring, bold initiatives and phenomenal decisions which effectively directed the course of EIL destiny towards a secure present and a future full of hope and sunshine.
