Finding a way to cope through poetry The days seem carefree for Piper Berry in her hometown of Buttermilk Hill, North Carolina -- days filled with fishing with her daddy and ten-year-old aunt/best friend Lindy and listening to her grandmother''s stories. But then Mama, Tiny Lambert (whom readers may remember from Weeping Willow), announces she wants more out of life than being a housewife, and Daddy thinks this is unreasonable. He moves out and that ugly word d-i-v-o-r-c-e becomes a reality. Soon Mama''s time becomes consumed with waiting tables and taking college classes. Daddy remarries, adopts two sons, and has a new baby daughter. Piper can''t help but feel as if she doesn''t belong anywhere anymore, and her only comfort is found in spending time with Lindy and their friend Bucky, whose life is full of his own share of family trouble. Piper''s growing interest in and talent for poetry help her find a voice to say the things that are hardest and make an important decision about following her own dreams.

It assumes that clinical teachers will bring to their task a background knowledge of educational principles, experience in a clinical nursing field, knowledge of substantive nursing content, a love of teaching and a desire to share with their students the joys, tears, challenge and wonder of learning in the clinical setting. The format is designed around a set of commonly encountered problems and encourages readers, whether on the threshold of a career as a clinical teacher or those who are experienced, to think through their responses to the problem situation before reading on to a disclosure of possible courses of action. In brief, the book is a companion to Teaching Nursing: A Self Instructional Handbook (Ewan and White, 1984). The authors'' interest in clinical teaching can be traced through a number of years in a variety of teaching careers with multidisciplinary health professional groups, of whom nurses comprise the majority of practitioners. As senior lecturers in the School of Medical Education, the authors were involved in developing and teaching a Master of Health Personnel Education Degree course; the students (or Fellows) in that programme were all graduates from a broad range of health care disciplines - nursing, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, dentistry, health education, health resources management, radiography, social work, community development, occupational safety and health.

Marjorie White, a missionary teacher for over twenty years, has written this book at the request of missionary schools who want to train educators to serve in Muslim countries. The book covers the personal perspectives and experiences in Iran during her time of service and her own perspectives on relating to those of the Muslim religion that she learned from interaction with her Muslim students, friends and co-workers. The books of Moses were the only text that she was allowed to use in her religious education classes in both Sudan and Iran and this presentation is fairly representative of what she taught. Parts of this book are devoted to her use of the new teaching technique of using literary methods to teach science and other non-literary subjects.
