For Luigi Mangione''s arraignment the press line in the 100 Centre Street courthouse began at 8 am on December 23, 2024. But members of the public began outside at 4:30 am. Inner City Press was there, as it had been for the Federal presentment on December 19. Today, with more time to organize - there had been a "Free Luigi" poster complete with QR code - there were more people. I think he should get a fair trial, a woman from New Jersey said from behind her mask. I''m here because of the cost of health insurance, said another. Over the weekend, a woman had been burned to death after being set on in fire on a subway train in Coney Island. A migrant from Guatemala had been arrested. Inner City Press might catch his arraignment over in Brooklyn. Or would that case, too, be Federalized? Surely that defendant would have no supporters. Inner City Press had reported on defendants being sentenced to 20 years or more in prison, for lesser crimes than murder, with no one else in the courtroom gallery. This assassination on video had struck a nerve, more so after the Crime Stoppers photos were released. It was a tale of comparative crimes, of dual prosecutions. This is the first book of a series. Lone Wolf. Not so fast… Remain seated! The Court Security Officer in the white shift, the same one as from the Daniel Penny trial, shouts at the journalists and the Luigi Mangione supporters. The prosecutors follow Mangione out of the courtroom. Kurt Wheelock is trying to get his laptop to fall asleep. The orange light remains lit, though. "OK, clear out, this courtroom is being closed!" Kurt waits for the elevator with the other journalists. The female supporters, it seems, will ride on other cars. In the 100 Centre Street lobby, a prisoner is being led in by a policeman, his hands cuffed in front of him. Stepping through the revolving doors, Kurt can see a crowd across the street. There is chanting about health care; there is a guy standing on a ladder with a Palestinian flag above him. Kurt wants to film it. He takes out his phone, moves his NYC Press Pass to the outside of his jacket. The cops in front of the courthouse barely look at him. He crosses the street, into the press pen in front of the demonstrators. "Free Luigi!" they chant. And that sign again, "Luigi Freed Us." From what? Brian Thompson? Kurt does a livestream, and shoots a six second video to put up later. His hands are freezing. It''s time to return to SDNY. He''s going to upload this book, this first book, and publish it before nightfall. Kurt designs the cover, does one final spell check. Just after noon he uploads it. It will take some hours, two to four he estimates based on the past. He does not want to stay staring at the laptop screen. He heads out, up to his barber by the United Nations, the one he started going to before the UN threw him out. It seems obligatory to make small talk with barbers, at least this one. He asks about Luigi Mangione. "Oh the CEO killer," the barber says. "What an asshole." The barber is also against congestion pricing. Is there a correlation? With a new short haircut Kurt takes the subway back downtown. The book is "Under review," longer than that usually takes. Kurt is getting jump. He goes to his City gym in the housing projects, checks his phone on the way back to the courthouse. Nothing. Under review. It is nearly eight pm when something happens. Kurt gets an email alert: one of your books cannot be published. He signs up to check his bookshelves. There it is: Blocked. Why this book? Kurt emails back; he opens up a chat box. A person, or bot, calling themselves Willow tells him his email is being reviewed. But nothing. Later he asks for a call back, and a woman with a Missouri area code says the review is ongoing, a ticket has been opened. By midnight they tell him: Your publishing account has been suspended. He cannot reach any of his books. More back and forth, this time with a sense of desperation. A content "investigator" from India tells him his content has been deemed "offensive." He will have to swear an affirmation he will never do it again. But what is it? What is so offensive? Kurt must look for alternatives. The biggest, the Search behemoth, has books too. At least e-books. New era? Diddy Detained was up - now Luigi Mangione Lone Wolf? If you have it, the answer is yes - and there will be more.

When the Trump trial resumed on April 30, the prosecution''s main witness after Pecker was his negotiation partner Keith Davidson. He described himself a lawyer with media clients, and said these include reality TV clients. And porn stars? In reading for the jury his text messages with Pecker''s editor Dylan Howard, Davidson came across his line about Karen McDougal being under pressure from what Davidson called the "estrogen mafia." Russell Lee (1903-1986) began working as a photographer for the Historical Section of the Resettlement Administration (RA) in 1936. He continued with the organization for the next six years as it became the Farm Security Administration (FSA) and later part of the Office of War Information (OWI). His tenure was longer than any other photographer for the organization and his output the most prolific. He shot over 25,000 of the 175,000 negatives in the FSA–OWI Black-and-White Negatives Collection. While his most iconic shots have been in the public consciousness for almost a century and the FSA-OWI collections have now been digitized and are available for free, the vast majority of his work will likely remain unknown to the general public unless curated into more finite and convenient experiences. The aim of this series of books is to provide those experiences and allow the reader to explore different aspects of Russell Lee’s monumental work in depth. The purpose of this case study was to discover the time management experiences of adult learners in an online undergraduate degree program at a mid-sized, Midwestern private university. The theory guiding this study was Tourangbam’s (2011) time equity theory as it emphasized the connection between time management and both productivity and life satisfaction. Data was collected through online (Zoom) interviews, a virtual (Zoom) focus group, and photovoice (Wang & Burris, 1992) exercise in which participants took photographs that represented their priorities, obligations, and time-wasters, which were the three categories of time management identified in time equity theory (Tourangbam, 2011). Data was analyzed qualitatively, allowing emergent categories to form from the raw data. Data from the three types of sources were synthesized, and multi-layered member-checking was used to increase the dependability of the study. The results of this study demonstrated common experiences, behaviors, and understandings of priorities, obligations, and time-wasters among the participants. The participants consistently used time-management strategies identified in existing literature (Macan et al., 1990), as well as self-regulation behaviors (Bandura, 1991). However, participants did not make the distinction between priorities and obligations described by Tourangbam (2011) and used these terms interchangeably. All participants identified social media as a time-waster and admitted to struggling to minimize time-wasters. Participants described their places of study as typically chaotic, high-traffic areas with frequent interruptions, but also identified supportive family as a primary factor in their academic success.

Salmonella continues to threaten public health as well as negatively impact dairy producers on multiple levels. Efficacious solutions to control Salmonella among dairy cattle have long been sought to alleviate these problems. A novel vaccine technology has been developed based on purified siderophore receptors and porin proteins (SRP®) derived from Salmonella Newport. When vaccinated with these SRP® cattle are stimulated to produce antibodies which act in concert with host defenses to disrupt iron acquisition of pathogenic bacteria. To evaluate the effectiveness of this technology, a prospective cohort study was designed utilizing herds (n = 11) that practiced whole herd vaccination with the SRP® vaccine (vaccinated cohort) and herds (n = 11) that had not used the SRP® vaccine. Samples were collected during four rounds at approximately six week intervals from June through October 2009. Samples were transported to the laboratory at West Texas A & M University and cultured for the prevalence of Salmonella using selective enrichment methods. Salmonella isolates were evaluated for antimicrobial susceptibility and serotype. Data was analyzed using commercially available software to evaluate the herd-level effects of vaccination. Salmonella was ubiquitous throughout the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico, within-herd animal level estimates of prevalence ranged from 0.0 - 92%, over the length of the study period. Overall all rounds vaccinated herds had decreased (P = 0.012) Salmonella prevalence (15.3 vs. 27.5%). Vaccinated herds had numerically fewer Salmonella isolates belonging to the Newport serotype. Salmonella Typhimurium isolates were recovered approximately equally from vaccinated and non-vaccinated herds. Isolates from vaccinated herds were resistant to fewer antimicrobials throughout the study period. The ACSSuT(resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, sulphisoxazole, and tetracycline) and MDR-AmpC (ACSSuT resistance plus resistance to ceftiofur and amoxicillin/clavulanate) resistant phenotypes were more frequently observed among non-vaccinated herds and none of the isolates from vaccinated or non-vaccinated herds were resistant to nalidixic acid, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, or amikacin. These findings indicate vaccine efficacy for the reduction of Salmonella prevalence. Dairy operators along with herd veterinarians are encouraged to utilize this data with other herd specific factors in determining whether to use this specific vaccine.

In the late 1920s, Reimar Horten started experimenting with flying models equipped with fuselages, stabilizers, rudders, and elevators, but his life''s work involved systematically removing these components from the models until he could achieve flight with only the wing. Not only were the pure wings more difficult to design with the stability and control needed to fly, they were harder to place in practical roles not already filled by conventional aircraft operating for less support and operational costs. Always seeking to increase performance and efficiency, Horten adopted a multi-disciplinary approach after flying his first piloted wing in 1933, eventually breaking new ground in cockpit design and construction materials. His most important innovation was the unique pattern he developed to distribute the lift over his wings, the result of his efforts to refine the aerodynamic control of all-wing aircraft, often while working alone and in difficult circumstances. Two days after he passed away in 1993, the Royal Aeronautical Society awarded Reimar Horten the British Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Aeronautics.
