Art As a Weapon for Justice

release date: Sep 01, 2023
Art As a Weapon for Justice
This book is based on 18 years in the field creating photo and audio journalism in and around the juvenile justice system. This is my world, my issue, my passion. The book is written from the perspective of someone whose primary medium was photography but I believe the ideas work for activists and artists across multiple fields. Many of the notes are punctuated by my experiences with and information about the juvenile justice system. However, I hope you find that these experiences and concepts also translate to your passions, your issues, and your worlds. The successes and failures I have experienced might have relevance for you. These notes are not meant to make me look or sound heroic, but they do require a certain amount of perseverance, dedication, and determination- to the point of compulsion. Sometimes the words seem contradictory; situations evolve and are nuanced. The path to change is often circuitous and non-linear.Forgive some of my personal anecdotes. I lived a life as an artist, photographer, documentor, and finally (or most recently) journalist and activist. I hope I don''t seem pretentious. I offer some history in the hope that the reader has the will and tools to shape the future. This book is for you to use, modify, quote, change, borrow and steal from. These are suggestions and ideas, not rigid paths to follow. I hope these translate enough to the field you have chosen to explore, work in, and impact. Not everything here will be applicable to your work. I hope that it is both ASPIRATIONAL and PRACTICAL.Perhaps there are one or two notes that resonate, that give you a kernel for an idea.Take, think, change, alter... It matters.Your willingness to do SOMETHING is important.

Destiny's Call
Three years after a decisive battle with the body-snatching Cenari, both sides have prepared for their next confrontation, but which side''s planning will give them the advantage? The repealing of the Cenari invasion forces has ushered in a new era of peace, brokered by Ambassador Illandra Page, whose telepathic abilities assisted in destroying the Cenari invasion fleet. She now focuses on her political career, uncovering the mysteries behind the Cenari and their creators, and the disappearance of Race Allard, the hero of the United Republic. Race was reported missing after the last battle. Stealing an enemy ship to return home, his starship never made it. His precognitive powers were the deciding factor in the final confrontation with the leftover nanite invaders of a lost alien civilization. His absence leaves humanity vulnerable, as others scurry to fill in the gaps left behind in his absence. The reports from the outer edges of space bring discouraging news as malice in the shadows once again starts to infect civilization. Could the hope for mankind lie in the discovery of a powerless ship back from the edges of the galaxy? The final battle for the known universe with the Cenari is about to come to a head in the continuation of the Cosmic Endeavor series!ufeff

Accelerate: Parenting Teenagers Toward Adulthood

release date: Aug 01, 2013
Accelerate: Parenting Teenagers Toward Adulthood
Today, most people 18-25 do not see themselves as adults, and they know they are not prepared for adult roles. Spiritually, socially, and emotionally, they are underdeveloped. Even regions of their brains are underdeveloped. These emerging adults are in a holding pattern related to vocation, life direction, and marriage. But they also are stuck spiritually. The faith that characterizes most church teenagers is almost entirely me centered. And it is a "faith" that usually crumbles after high school. As a parent, you stand at a crossroads. If you repeat the parenting approaches of the past, your children may well become 20-somethings similar to those today-living in a never, never land between the teenage years and adulthood. Or you can seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and parent in fresh new ways. Those fresh approaches are the focus of this book. Soon you may see your own high school graduates well on their way to adulthood, deeply in love with Christ, and wanting nothing more than His glory. Richard Ross is a professor of student ministry. He has written 23 books related to teenagers and families and has spoken to parents in almost 500 churches and conferences. Joining Ross as contributors are: Doug Bischoff, Ph.D. Next Generations Minister, Houston''s First Baptist Church, Houston, Texas David Booth, Ph.D. Minister of Education & Family Discipleship, First Baptist Church, Winnsboro, Texas Kyle Crowell, Ph.D. Minister of Students and Activities, First Baptist Church, Bolivar, Missouri Johnny Derouen, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Student Ministry, Southwestern Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas David Odom, Ph.D. Jr. High Pastor and Video Director, Crestview Baptist Church, Midland, Texas

Student Ministry and the Supremacy of Christ

release date: Oct 01, 2009
Student Ministry and the Supremacy of Christ
According to Ross, the goal of student ministry is students who spend a lifetime embracing the full supremacy of the Son, responding to His majesty in all of life, inviting Christ to live His life through them, and joining Him in making disciples among all peoples. Ross notes, Student ministry that does not matter for a lifetime does not matter much. For the past 50 years, most churches approached student ministry as: 1. students primarily relating to one youth leader, 2. students experiencing church almost exclusively with people their same age, and 3. parents outsourcing the spiritual leadership of their teenagers to the youth leader. The result? The great majority of youth who were faithful to youth programs now have walked away from the faith. Now there is broad agreement that this approach to student ministry has been a failed experiment. Student Ministry and the Supremacy of Christ proposes a model of student ministry that is far different from the past. This approach calls for: 1. immersing teenagers in life-on-life, transformational relationships with several godly adults, 2. drawing teenagers into a web of rich, intergenerational relationships in the congregation, and
