Three native legumes (prairie acacia (Acacia angustissima var. hirta), panicled tick-clover (Desmodium paniculatum), and herbaceous mimosa (Mimosa strigillosa)) were evaluated for seed and herbage yield, nutritive values, and effect of harvest on seed production. Herbaceous mimosa yielded the most dry matter (DM) in both years (3380 and 7510 kg ha−1), Plains Germplasm prairie acacia the least in 2008 (2240 kg ha−1), and panicled tick-clover least in 2009 (2010 kg ha−1). Plains Germplasm prairie acacia produced the greatest seed yields for both years (1480 and 2590 kg ha−1 yr−1) while herbaceous mimosa produced the least. Overall, the acacias produced the most favorable fiber concentrations. Harvest negatively affected seed yield and some nutritive values. Results support inclusion of these species into prairie restoration and pasture and rangeland improvement.
