Ralph Steadman (Mini Edition)

release date: Mar 04, 2025
Ralph Steadman (Mini Edition)
Ralph Steadman: A Life in Ink is the definitive career retrospective of the revered and provocative UK artist. This new edition features the same content as the original at a smaller size and more economical price. This comprehensive monograph on the life and art of Ralph Steadman collects work from his dozens of books from a career of 60-plus years. Renowned for his collaborations with iconic American writer Hunter S. Thompson, they formed an unlikely duo that created "Gonzo" journalism. This lifelong partnership included the legendary Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, originally published in Rolling Stone magazine, which has since become a cult classic and synonymous with the counterculture of the 1970s. Along with his signature ink-splattered style, Steadman is known for his diverse body of work, including satirical political cartoons and book illustrations for classics such as George Orwell''s Animal Farm and his award-winning version of Alice in Wonderland. This mini edition of A Life in Ink is the perfect complement to any collection of Steadman''s books. Add it to the shelf alongside Ralph Steadman: Proud Too Be Weirrd and Gonzo: The Art by Ralph Steadman and The Curse of Lono by Hunter S. Thompson.

Extinct Boids ENHANCED EDITION

release date: Nov 01, 2012
Extinct Boids ENHANCED EDITION
When Ceri Levy asked Ralph Steadman to produce one piece of art representing an extinct bird for a recent exhibition, Ghosts of Gone Birds, Ralph said ''yes''. Then ''yes'' again ... and again ... and again. An astonishing 100 paintings later, Extinct Boids was born. Ralph got carried away by the birds, taking Ceri with him ... this book details the discoveries they made on their travels through the savage seas of extinction. After stumbling on the previously hidden Toadstool Island, where the extinct birds of the world live on in secretive harmony, the duo spent nearly a year in close proximity to a host of fantastical avian creatures. Ralph documents them all in this series of remarkable paintings, featuring unique interpretations of well-known birds such as the Great Auk, Passenger Pigeon and Dodo, along with less familiar members of the feathersome firmament - Snail-eating Coua, for example, or the Red-moustached Fruit Dove - and a variety of bizarre beasts including the Gob Swallow, the Long-legged Shortwing and the Needless Smut. All are captured in a riot of expression and colour, with a slice of trademark Steadman humour. Based on emails, diary entries and phone conversations, Ceri''s accompanying text provides a running commentary, detailing the unfolding madness behind the creation of each piece in Ralph''s extraordinary work. Things got tough as the pair discovered just how many amazing birds have been lost from our world forever. This enhanced ebook edition of the stellar smash hit includes animation, readings by the authors, and other unmissable extra content. Don''t miss it!

Tales of the Weirrd [sic]

release date: Jan 01, 2002
Tales of the Weirrd [sic]
Genuine weirdness is a rare quality. To be truly weird demands character and wanton disregard for the social mores of the day. Unleashed in Tales of the Weirrd is Ralph Steadman''s fantastic interpretations and biographies of nineteenth century grotesques, oddities, imposters and eccentrics. The book is a hilarious catalog of nature''s freakish humor and, in the best Victorian tradition, it instructs as well as entertains. This crazy collection of dwarfs, and gluttons, wits and water-spouters includes: Charles Charlesworth, who grew a beard at age four and died of old age at the age of seven Old Boots, who could hold a piece of money between his nose and chin Barbara Urselin, the hairy-faced woman Henry Lemoine, an eccentric bookseller Guillaume de Nittis, who tried to eat himself Fakir Agastiya, who kept his arm in the air for ten years Neville Vadio, the blind caricaturist, who was claimed by many to be a better draughtsman than Rembrandt. Tales of the Weirrd is an extraordinary celebration of the bizarre brought to life by the astonishing energy, imagination and power of Ralph Steadman''s pen.

The Book of Jones

release date: Jan 01, 1997
The Book of Jones
Once upon a time, Ralph Steadman visited his friend Hunter S. Thompson at Owl Farm, his mountain home high above Aspen, Colorado. There he made the acquaintance of a certain cat named Jones. Jones was the master of all he surveyed. When he wanted something from a human, he invariably got it; the rest of the time he was serenely unavailable. And Jones was mercurial even by the standards of Hunter S. Thompson (with whom he shared mutual respect and nocturnal habits): "Both made demands and were locked into worlds reserved for selfish gods". One minute Jones was disarmingly placid and fluffy, the next a claw-wielding terror. No one who knew Jones - not Steadman, not Thompson, not even the late and great John Belushi - was any match for his wiles. In short, Jones was extremely catlike. His anarchic sense of fun mirrored Steadman''s own and led to the creation of this irresistibly playful tale that will enchant humans the world over.
