In allen Städten und Dörfern

release date: Jun 11, 2012

Empty Mansions

release date: Nov 28, 2013
Empty Mansions
SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2014 SPEARS BOOK AWARDS - FAMILY HISTORY CATEGORY Empty Mansions is a rich mystery of wealth and loss, connecting the Gilded Age opulence of nineteenth-century America with a twenty-first-century battle over a $300 million inheritance. At its heart is a reclusive heiress named Huguette Clark, a woman so secretive that, at the time of her death at age 104, no new photograph of her had been seen in decades. Though she owned palatial homes in California, New York, and Connecticut, why had she lived for twenty years in a simple hospital room, despite being in excellent health? Why were her valuables being sold off? Was she in control of her fortune, or controlled by those managing her money? Huguette Clark was the daughter of self-made copper industrialist W. A. Clark, nearly as rich as Rockefeller in his day, a controversial senator, railroad builder, and founder of Las Vegas. She grew up in the largest house in New York City, a remarkable dwelling with 121 rooms for a family of four. She owned paintings by Degas and Renoir, a world-renowned Stradivarius violin, a vast collection of antique dolls. But wanting more than treasures, she devoted her wealth to buying gifts for friends and strangers alike, to quietly pursuing her own work as an artist, and to guarding the privacy she valued above all else. Empty Mansions reveals a complex portrait of the mysterious Huguette and her intimate circle. We meet her extravagant father, her publicity-shy mother, her star-crossed sister, her French boyfriend, her nurse who received more than $30 million in gifts, and the relatives fighting to inherit Huguette''s copper fortune. Richly illustrated with more than seventy photographs, Empty Mansions is an enthralling story of an eccentric of the highest order, a last jewel of the Gilded Age who lived life on her own terms.

The Omega Course
How can you live with yourself when you have killed somebody? This question haunts Ross Collins following a catastrophic road accident. His life unravels after the police arrest him for causing death by careless driving. Sinking into a morass of despair and self-loathing, he seeks refuge in the Alpha Course, hoping to find redemption in religion. There he encounters "Omega" Bee, a theology student grappling with her own crisis as the faith that has always defined her crumbles. This novel melds fiction and non-fiction in the style of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Sophie''s World, as Bee sabotages Ross''s quest by teaching him about the very human origins of Christianity and the Bible. But he doesn''t want truth. He wants redemption. We follow Ross as his trial approaches and he struggles to find a way to come to terms with what he has done. Pandora's Green Box

release date: May 01, 2016
Pandora's Green Box
Pandora''s Green Box introduces the subject of population growth, considered by the environmental community as one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the planet. Growth is seen as a multiplier of nearly all environmental areas. Yet Pandora''s Green Box focuses its attention on whether this issue is one that directly impacts America, asking the first of two fundamental questions: "Is population growth in America a justifiable domestic environmental issue?"It is from the resolution of this first inquiry that Pandora''s Green Box leads to its apex (second segment) and to its contentiousness, asking "If population growth in America is a justified environmental challenge, are political motives responsible for keeping the issue concealed?" To determine a resolution to this question, the book looks into the shifting growth trends from fertility to immigration as the driving factor of growth in America today. It then evaluates the politics of both environmental and immigration issues. The reader is led to ask the question why has the environmental establishment changed course on this issue? Only through a complete and scientific evaluation of these fundamental questions can a probable conclusion be drawn which leads us to resolve the very question posed within the title of this manuscript: "Have Politics Concealed Americas'' Greatest Environmental Challenge and Threatened America''s Way of Life?"u200bWith strong scientific merit, sound investigative research and in-depth analysis, Pandora''s Green Box is the essential key to bringing these connections together. It is the only full publication of its kind that does so. Its significance will disrupt the environmental establishment in ways that no other environmental publication has done before.
