Living Life at the Top
Just about all of us have a desire to be at the top in our job, sport or social circle. You’ve heard it before – if we want it hard enough, and follow certain techniques,we can reach the pinnacle of worldly success. The problem is, there can only be a handful of winners when it’s defined like that. Even if you achieve that sort of success, and become a wealthy winner – there must be losers. What if there were other pinnacles you could reach without standing on others? There is. You can be at the top in your relationships, happiness and quality of life and still be among friends! To get there, we have to go against our 21st Century instincts – try some ideas that aren’t always obvious or easy – to reach the top of life, not at the top of the pile.Interested? Read these thoughts!

In allen Städten und Dörfern

release date: Jun 11, 2012

A Rhetoric of Boundaries

release date: Jan 01, 2001
A Rhetoric of Boundaries
Historians and social scientists have long studied the construction and operation of conventional categories like "nature/culture." In this dissertation, I take a rhetorical approach to the study of a conventional category I refer to as the "technical/non-technical split," the arbitrary but powerful articulation of what is and is not "technical" that structures contemporary organizations. To accomplish this study, I conducted an ethnographic study of the ways that the organizational and individual belief in the separation of "technical" from "non-technical" structured daily work at an Internet startup company. I analyze the formation of the technical/non-technical structure, a formation caused by and resulting from the organization''s change from a tiny virtual company of four to a formal organization of 16. I also explore the specifics of the re-distribution of labor, texts, and physical space, and examine the ways that those changes impact the distribution of material and social capital. I close by drawing out the implications of my study for scholars and instructors of rhetoric and professional communication. I explore the impacts of my study on the rhetoric of technology and the implications of my study for contemporary understandings of the position of technical writers within or2anizations.

Design

release date: Jan 01, 2000
Design
DESIGN - A CRASH COURSE addresses a somewhat slippery subject. Ever since people started making things to help them live their lives there have been bright sparks who have said ''I''m sure there''s a better way of doing that.'' These people are variously called inventors, designers or know-alls. The word ''design'' is from the French, meaning ''to draw'' - so design is an activity that starts off with a drawing and leads to a thing. But that covers just about everything from the lightbulb to the space shuttle, so what is it that sets apart the people we call designers, and makes them different from artists and inventors? This little book is designed to reveal all, so read it and get an appreciation of the design revolution. DESIGN - A CRASH COURSE gives you the lowdown on the people who have made our world look the way it does and helps you untangle the difference between need, necessity and indulgence.

Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc

release date: Jan 01, 1998
Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc
Depicts the supply-management practices--including planning, production, and distribution--at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, the world''s leader in the genetically engineered hybrid crop seed industry. Set in the context of a supply-management planning meeting, it reveals conflicting considerations in setting policies for production (what, how much, and where to plant) and distribution. These considerations include costs, customer service, the vicissitudes of farm production, market uncertainties, and corporate culture. Since the issues are viewed from three independent perspectives--planning, production, and distribution--the case lends itself to role playing. The principal focus for discussion is to determine what bears on the key issues--the size of the safety stock inventory and the level of overseas products--and to specify the information that would be needed to arrive at a decision. Also permits consideration of the forces that could change supply management at Pioneer in years to come. Teaching Purpose: 1) To consider the challenges in managing the production, inventory, and distribution functions in a large, complex agribusiness firm. 2) To demonstrate the role of inventory management in supply management, and its relationship with production, marketing, and customer service.
