This study examines 523 student newspapers from Athens State University from 1901 through 2000. The result is the discovery of unique student voices as expressed through perennial themes such as race and women s roles. These voices are periodized into four eras in which dominant values, beliefs, behaviors, and norms vary over time. These four eras are labelled the eras of conformity, collegiality, emancipation, and vocationalism to capture their central feature. This study adds to the history of higher education by focusing on the expressions of students as reflected in the topics they wrote about in the student newspapers. The use of student newspapers as the primary source demonstrates how this type of evidence can be used to create themes which help understand the past. It also shows the development and changes in the perennial issues of race and women s roles in small southern colleges.

The issue of how much government regulation of an individual''s personal life is acceptable has been fervently debated within the liberal democracy of the United States (U.S.) since its inception in 1776. The thesis researches past and current policy, legislation, and law with stated paternalistic intent related to plural marriage, firearm storage, and abortion restriction and determines if such state-sanctioned actions are practical and justifiable. The thesis also offers legitimate paternalistic solutions to issues surrounding plural marriages, firearm storage, and abortion restriction in the U.S. The thesis concludes that carefully designed policy, legislation, and law that is justly implemented will have a positive effect not only on the targeted individual but U.S. society as a whole.

Postsecondary institutions are working to remedy campus race relations. Although initiatives from course requirements to diversity offices have been implemented, racialized disparities remain a pressing concern. The online domain has also challenged institutions to consider what responsibility campuses have in the racial climate experiences of students'' web-based interactions. This dissertation study therefore examines whether diversity work has created institutional change and positively shaped the campus experience for racially diverse students. Drawing upon critical race theories in education, I conducted a qualitative phenomenological study to explore how undergraduates make sense of their contemporary campus racial climate experiences in relation to their perceptions about their institution''s historical legacies of racism. Data collection methods included textual analysis of campus artifacts, video-elicited focus groups, semi-structured walking interviews, and ethnographic observations of 12 undergraduate students attending the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Three findings emerged from the study. First, minoritized students negotiate their online experiences with a greater sense of autonomy to avoid racial hostility. Their on-campus experiences, in contrast, are often fixed by uncontrollable circumstances such as required courses taught by racially insensitive instructors. Second, Students of Color identified direct parallels between their contemporary experiences and the racialized ideologies behind past racial incidents at UCLA. They noted, for example, how stereotypes used in the YouTube video "Asians in the Library" (2011) were consistent with how their contemporary peers envision Asian and Asian American students as the "model minority." Third, despite UCLA''s public history of racial incidents, participants came to their studies believing UCLA would be a "dream"-like escape from their racialized pasts. Their individual encounters with racial microaggressions from peers and instructors marked the beginning of their idyllic expectations of UCLA to fade away. Participants'' experiences demonstrate, despite advertised institutional investments in diversity over time, little substantive improvements have occurred within their campus'' racial climate. Findings have implications for how administrators and practitioners work to better serve the needs of racially diverse students. Moreover, this study contributes to methodological practice by situating social media texts as elicitation devices to nuance the study of campus racial climate within contemporary digital cultures.

Inventing Hebrews examines a perennial topic in the study of the Letter to the Hebrews, its structure and purpose. Michael Wade Martin and Jason A. The objective of this study was to determine if a pre synchronization gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) injection would increase conception percentages in postpartum anestrous angus beef cows and heifers. Sixty-four Angus females (42 multiparous cows and 20 heifers) from the Angelo State University''s Management, Instruction and Research Center were randomly assigned to two treatments groups at the beginning of the study. The control group were administered a two shot prostaglandin estrous synchronization protocol. The treatment group were administered a GnRH injection thirteen days prior to the two shot prostaglandin synchronization protocol. However, only 30 females showed signs of estrus and were artificially inseminated. Results in cows and heifers were similar, and no differences were found among the two treatment groups (Pu003e0.05). Differences might be noted with a larger number of females that show signs of estrus. Conception was recorded by the use of ultrasound, and is a viable management tool.
