The Making of A Man

release date: Nov 02, 2017
The Making of A Man
In Genesis 1:26, God said, "Let us make man." There are many opinions on who God was speaking to. We must determine the following: Is the Holy Spirit necessary in the making of a man? Is the making of a man as defined by the scholars of Funk & Wagnalls Standard Desk Dictionary possible, or are we destined by definition to be animals: Biblical term beastly? The answers may surprise you; let us reason and think and look very close to formulate a conclusion looking at the results history now affords us. Biblical principles aside, most would agree man has the ability to apply the wisdom needed from the knowledge gained in his own little world; or does he? Although as a society we have chosen to throw the making of a man to the wind and a willingness to allow many to just fall by the wayside, ignoring and changing the actual definition. Can we now individually change our direction and set standards back in society? Can we attain the biblical understanding of a real man? Let us take a close look at a couple of men, one being this man called Jesus who was said to have been a perfect man. Although his devotion and attentiveness as a man to deity was his focus, making it difficult to separate the two, it is his methods and actions, his character and integrity, his moral standards and judgments we will examine. Our hope is to separate the man from his spiritual philosophy, which is the inquiry into the most comprehensive principles of reality! To do just that, and gain the principles, morals and character that defines the man. Our focus will be on the man from the standpoint of a man, as defined by man. Our hope is to shed some light!

Collapse of Our Nation

release date: Dec 08, 2015
Collapse of Our Nation
"It's time to open our eyes." -Michael Norman Today our nation has problems that seem insurmountable, such as protecting our "God given" Freedoms, instability around the world that is an elevated threat, and a very weak economy. However, I believe they can be solved because there are logical solutions to these issues which will allow America to once again become a prosperous and secure global leader. It is an observation and a reality; there are good citizens who are Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, and so on. We are all caught up in the political web. We are being used as pawns, at our own expense, for politicians' benefit. My suggestion: Let's not allow ourselves to be manipulated and stop the nonsense. Create term limits for every elected office. In addition, require bills that prohibit special privileges for Members of Congress. My intention is to expose readers to many elements of our society and the world. This book will dip into various subjects, providing awareness and insight. From that point, it will be up to each reader to continue to research and learn about the different aspects of each topic shared. I could easily run on about any given subject, but that is not my intention with this book. This book was written for all the hard working individuals who are attempting to raise their families and contribute to society, while paying their taxes and being responsible citizens but don't have time to remain well informed. Hopefully this book will provide necessary insight into important issues within our nation and allow busy people to become better informed as it pertains to what is going on in our country. My concern: Most of our society is unaware of many important issues impacting our nation. Given our present direction, I am afraid that our nation is in a state of decline and that civil unrest is coming to our society. Through attentive observation, I can be inspired by simple acts of generosity and kindness on a daily basis. Let us not lose faith but instead focus on our collective mission and our ability to achieve great things. Together, we will achieve great things.

The Vengeance of Kahekili

release date: Mar 13, 2013
The Vengeance of Kahekili
This compelling and true tale is set in the 1790's Hawaiian Islands. Kamehameha the Ghttp: //www.google.com/webhp?rls=igreat, having conquered the Island of Hawaii, is marshalling his forces for an attack on the leeward islands of Maui, Oahu and Kauai. His main rivals, the Maui Brotherhood of Chiefs, fight among themselves on the island of Oahu fully aware of the threat from the east, but unable to quell their bitter internal rivalries. When the English trading captain William Brown sails his ship Jackal into the harbor of what is now Honolulu in 1794 he could not have foreseen the terrible consequences. War had broken out among the ruling chiefs, and royal brothers battled for control of the island. Brown understands his peril, but his ships need refitting, and his plans require King Kalanikupule to confirm Brown's previous agreements with Kahekili, the king's father. If Brown achieves his goals, Hawaii is sure to become a British colony, possibly bringing the Crown into opposition with Kamehameha. However Brown misjudges the impact of the war chief Kamohomoho, uncle to the king, and one of the few Hawaiian chiefs of the time who understands the Englishman's mind set. Having fought a month long battle with his brother, Kamohomoho first maneuvers Brown into providing aid in the war, and when the battle is finally won, into an implicit statement of loyalty to the Oahu King. In due course Brown is called upon to demonstrate his loyalty, and when he waivers his plans are doomed. Adding to the intrigue is the arrival in Honolulu harbor of the American vessel, Lady Washington. Her captain, John Kendrick, is no fan of the Englishman Brown and his intrigues and threatens their success. Also on board the Lady is a Hawaiian passenger, a young man known to both the crews of the Lady and the Jackal. Kavaialii, a descendant of Oahu royalty, has sailed to China with the Chief Kaiana, and on his return again found refuge in the service of Kaiana, now allied with Kamehameha on Hawaii. Kavaialii has come to Oahu on the order of Kamehameha to gather intelligence on Kalanikupule's forces and armament, and to seek out Brown's rumored agreements with Kahekili. As the Oahu war ends, the fear of Kamehameha's invasion reignites among the Maui chiefs, and intrigue, murder, and plots form and unfold. The chaos of fear and uncertainty causes Kamohomoho to wonder if his brother, the dead King Kahekili, has not indeed cursed Oahu by seeking vengeance for past transgressions through curses against his own family and the people of Oahu. The Vengeance Kahekili is the complicated but true tale of the fall of the last major resistance to Kamehameha's dynastic ambitions. It is also the revealing story of the first European to anchor in Honolulu Harbor. Well researched, highly annotated, and historically revealing, The Vengeance of Kahekili weaves a dramatic and exciting tale from the long forgotten facts of this critical moment in Hawaiian history.

Army and Empire

release date: Jan 01, 2004
Army and Empire
The end of the Seven Years? War found Britain?s professional army in America facing new and unfamiliar responsibilities. In addition to occupying the recently conquered French settlements in Canada, redcoats were ordered into the trans-Appalachian west, into the little-known and much disputed territories that lay between British, French, and Spanish America. There the soldiers found themselves serving as occupiers, police, and diplomats in a vast territory marked by extreme climatic variation?a world decidedly different from Britain or the settled American colonies. Going beyond the war experience, Army and Empire examines the lives and experiences of British soldiers in the complex, evolving cultural frontiers of the West in British America. From the first appearance of the redcoats in the West until the outbreak of the American Revolution, Michael N. McConnell explores all aspects of peacetime service, including the soldiers? diet and health, mental well-being, social life, transportation, clothing, and the built environments within which they lived and worked. McConnell looks at the army on the frontier for what it was: a collection of small communities of men, women, and children faced with the challenges of surviving on the far western edge of empire.
