25 Solos for Guitar from the Unaccompanied Partitas
J. Michael Leonard has transcribed two excellent editions of the Bach Partitas, one for flute and one for clarinet. the partitas were taken from those volumes and transcribed for guitar. the goal was to make these absolutely beautiful pieces of music accessible for the guitarist who may not be a virtuoso in ability. Where necessary the pieces were transcribed into guitar friendly keys and the articulation markings were edited so that the slurs and ornamentations would lie well on the guitar fingerboard. The pieces may be performed by either a fingerstyle or classic guitarist or with the use of a flatpick. These pieces should be ideal in concert, recital or festival.

25 Solos for Clarinet

release date: Mar 02, 2012
25 Solos for Clarinet
This collection of pieces gleaned from the unaccompanied works of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) will broaden the horizons of the amateur, student and professional musicians alike. It is intended that these transcriptions serve as a teaching aid; helping in study of form, phrasing, style and other aspects of making music. In addition, they may also be utilized for the purpose of performance. It should be noted that some register adjustments have been instituted to better suit the range limitations of the clarinet. I have tried my best to be as faithful as possible to Bach''s original compositions, striving for consistency and continuity of line. All editorial markings (trills, dynamics, articulations, etc.) are solely the editors and are of course open to interpretation. the first set of pieces (Partita, BWV 1013) is heavily edited to show that keeping within the standard performance practice of the Baroque style, experimentation is expected and encouraged.

The Serum
In 1911, John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie, the two wealthiest men in the world, embark on a quest to alter the destiny of humanity. Their journey begins with the discovery of ancient Egyptian scrolls, nearly 4,000 years old, written by scribes for Pharaoh Sekhemib-Perenma. Two millennia later, as the Romans conquer Egypt, the scrolls are presented to Emperor Antoninus Pius. Translated into Latin, the Emperor becomes consumed by the secrets contained within the cryptic phrase: ‘Et reversus est ad mortem deos’ – ‘To Die and come back as gods.’ Rockefeller and Carnegie finance the creation of a clandestine laboratory on Point Nemo, the most remote island in the Pacific Ocean. Over the years, the facility’s staff of elite researchers, scientists, and medical professionals toil tirelessly to unravel the mysteries of the ancient text. As decades pass, the various boards of directors overseeing the Point Nemo facility manipulate the process and exploit terminally ill patients and those with incurable disabilities as test subjects in their relentless pursuit of immortality. In the present day, best-selling author Peter Cordell finds himself grappling with writer’s block when he receives an enigmatic call from Mrs. Evelyn Rule. She invites him to Point Nemo and offers him a unique assignment: to write a historical novel commemorating the facility’s 100th anniversary. Despite a century of progress in extending human life by 50 to 100 years or more, the ultimate breakthrough remains elusive. The key to unlocking the secrets of immortality lies in the development of a miraculous formula known only as The Serum.

Philippe Garrel

release date: Jan 17, 2020
Philippe Garrel
Described by Giles Deleuze as ‘one of the greatest modern auteurs’, Philippe Garrel is widely acknowledged as the most significant filmmaker to emerge in France after the New Wave. His deeply personal cinema traces the troubled sentimental lives of couples, exploring the relationship between art and political struggle. This study observes the eclecticism of the director’s influences, looking to avant-garde movements such as the Situationists, Surrealism, Arte Povera and the American Underground, in order to explore his original body of work. Consideration is also given to Garrel’s relationship with other members of the so-called ‘post-New Wave’, including Jean Eustache and Chantal Akerman. The first book on Garrel’s cinema to appear in English, it will appeal to Garrel enthusiasts as well as to students and lecturers specialising in film studies or French studies.

Engineering Modelling and Analysis

release date: Sep 03, 2018
Engineering Modelling and Analysis
Introducing engineering students to numerical analysis and computing, this book covers a range of topics suitable for the first three years of a four year undergraduate engineering degree. The teaching of computing to engineers is hampered by the lack of suitable problems for the students to tackle, so much effort has gone into making the problems in this book realistic and relevant, while at the same time solvable for undergraduates. Taking a balanced approach to teaching computing and computer methods at the same time, this book satisfies the need to be able to use computers (using both formal languages such as Fortran and other applications such as Matlab and Microsoft Excel), and the need to be able to solve realistic engineering problems.

Intermediate Organic Chemistry

release date: Jul 10, 2013
Intermediate Organic Chemistry
The mission of Intermediate Organic Chemistry is to bridge the gap between introductory Organic Chemistry coursework and advanced/graduate-level coursework but to do so in a way that extends the student-centered approach of most modern introductory Organic Chemistry textbooks. This text makes extensive use of detailed explanations and color coding to facilitate the learning process. This text''s style is one that is shared by many instructors of Organic Chemistry: mechanistically driven and detailed. Extensive use of color coding helps students to learn mechanism and cogently predict reaction products. The electrons that are mechanistically involved in each transformation are color coded. The mechanistic arrows originating from those electrons are colored identically, as are the bonds and/or lone pairs that result from the electron flow. This approach, along with detailed verbal explanations, conveys the narrative of the mechanism.

Introductory Organic Reaction Mechanisms: A color-coded approach to arrow pushing

release date: Oct 06, 2013
Introductory Organic Reaction Mechanisms: A color-coded approach to arrow pushing
To master Organic Chemistry, it is essential to master mechanism. This book uses a novel approach to help you better understand the mechanisms of 80 common organic reactions. Each one is color coded so that you can clearly see the changes that take place during the reaction. The electrons involved in the mechanism are color coded, as are the arrows originating from those electrons and the bonds or lone pairs formed by them in the intermediates and product. As a result, you can trace specific pairs of electrons through an entire transformation. The description of what each mechanistic arrow means is color coded correspondingly so that it is easy to match up the text with the relevant portion of a reaction diagram.

Paintings

Paintings
"A relatively small, slim square format book of just over 100 pages. A very short foreword by the knowledgeable Lincoln Kirsten is followed by a conversation between Edward Lucie-Smith and Michael Leonard; this then is repeated in French and German. Pages 22 to 101 contain the full colour plates, with the image on the right hand page and the facing page blank apart from the title and basic facts of the picture. It concludes with a very brief chronology. The paintings cover the whole range of Leonard''s output, including portraits, several of his stripped-to-the-waist roofers or scaffolders, candid male nudes, and men or groups in casual settings in a park. It is a fine little book, well produced, if there is a criticism it is simply that one would love to have the very same reproduced on a larger scale; however it is splendid to have his sensitive and honest portrayals available"--Goodreads.
