International Harvester, Mccormick, Navistar

release date: Jan 01, 2007
International Harvester, Mccormick, Navistar
The passion for invention is a deeply ingrained part of American culture. In the decades after our independence, the new nation burst with names every schoolchild should learn: Robert Fulton, Eli Whitney, Samuel Morse-and above all, Cyrus McCormick. Cyrus McCormick, inventor of the first mechanical reaper, liberated the American farmer, and changed the course of history. Until 1831, when he marketed the first truly practical machine, grain was still harvested as it had been in the time of the Pharaohs. McCormick also pioneered modern sales and marketing techniques, and as the twentieth century dawned, his McCormick Harvesting Machine Company became International Harvester, an industrial powerhouse ranked with U.S. Steel and Standard Oil. Celebrating this year its 175th anniversary, McCormick''s company, now Navistar International, has been a vital force in the American landscape, its tractors and trucks crucial to its industrial development. Milestones is the first fully illustrated history of the rich heritage of Navistar International, from its founding by Cyrus McCormick to its vitality today. This lavishly illustrated, oversized volume is packed with original photography, nostalgic advertising, fascinating detail and history, and American pride.

During this time, he has found that on numerous occasions, his students had difficulty in dealing with unsettling or negative emotions. More worryingly, was how challenged students felt when talking about their emotions, especially with their parents. As a new father to a baby girl, Lee wanted his daughter to feel confident and comfortable talking to him about anything. He wrote this book, one of a series, so that he could share with his daughter that certain emotions and feelings were natural and talking to someone about them was the best way to get support. Lee does not claim to be an expert in metal health, but through his experiences with his students and their challenges in opening up to parents, he firmly believes that if parents talk to their children early on in life then they will be better equipped to deal with these feelings as they grow up. Helping them to feel at ease discussing their feelings, good and challenging, with parents in later life.

Drawing Redefined

release date: Jan 01, 2015
Drawing Redefined
Drawing Redefined offers an original, critical look at the distinctive role drawing plays in the processes of five influential contemporary artists. For Roni Horn, Esther Kläs, Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Richard Tuttle, and Jorinde Voigt drawing is an essential medium in their multimedia and object-based work. Drawing affirms these artists'' tactile engagement with the world and serves as a means for aesthetic experimentation and inquiry. In these artists'' hands and through their bodies, the traditional practice of drawing is transformed into an exploration of time and space not necessarily bound to the page or the wall, manifest in film, sculpture, and painting. Following an introduction that traces the art historical precedents of drawing''s key role in 20th-century artistic practice, noted scholars of contemporary art provide essays that explore the individual work of each artist and the vital place drawing maintains within it. Their diverse and compelling works of art are featured in 60 color illustrations. Distributed for deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum Exhibition Schedule: deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (10/02/15-03/20/16)
