The vocal lines within this orchestrated score act as additional layers of sound for the overall effect of this piece. This work requires vocal maturity and strength, but is certainly a fabulous program addition.

The purpose of this project has been to design, manufacture, and test instruments capable of measuring room-temperature creep of precision springs provided to us by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The four springs are part of a single mechanism, which must be able to perform to specifications after having been in storage for several decades. Using the designed instruments, the springs have been tested for periods up to several months, and the measured linear creep rates have been extrapolated out to determine the effective service lives of the springs (amount of time before they creep outside of the force specifications). These nominal values for the service lives of each type of spring can be compiled into a single theoretical model to characterize the performance of the mechanism as a function of time. Three different instruments have been designed to measure creep of the springs in their nominal form, as well as a fourth instrument which is capable of measuring axial stress-strain and creep properties of axially loaded samples of spring stock material. The current status of spring testing will be covered, along with a detailed discussion on the data collected up to this point of the project.
