The papers provide a record of Helpmann''s artistic career from the age of twenty three. There are personal diaries, 1950-1986; scrapbooks containing correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, invitations, and theatre programs arranged chronologically by theatrical production 1933-1982; press cuttings 1977-1986 about films, ballet and the Arts generally; and photographs. The papers cover his association with the Australian, Sadler''s Wells and Vic-Wells Ballets, and with actors and dancers including Katharine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Sir Laurence Olivier and Alicia Markova.

Collection consists of correspondence, photographs and stills relating to his films. Also included are promotional material, posters, and clippings. Of particular interest is Stanley Kubrick''s notebook containing scene variants for his film Lolita.
