A.D.

release date: Aug 09, 2016
A.D.
A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge is a masterful portrait of a city under siege. Cartoonist Josh Neufeld depicts seven extraordinary true stories of survival in the days leading up to and following Hurricane Katrina. Here we meet Denise, a counselor and social worker, and a sixth-generation New Orleanian; “The Doctor,” a proud fixture of the French Quarter; Abbas and Darnell, two friends who face the storm from Abbas’ s family-run market; Kwame, a pastor''s son just entering his senior year of high school; and the young couple Leo and Michelle, who both grew up in the city. Each is forced to confront the same wrenching decision–whether to stay or to flee. As beautiful as it is poignant, A.D. presents a city in chaos and shines a bright, profoundly human light on the tragedies and triumphs that took place within it.

Fare Game

release date: Dec 19, 2015
Fare Game
Consumers are used to rating products on their quality, but in the digital economy, the customer is often rated as well. Want to take a vacation? Make sure your Airbnb reputation is good. Want to get a car home at night? Check your Uber score. How do these systems change our behavior? Who do they help, and who could they hurt? In this graphic short, we investigate how this developing economy is playing out. "Fare game" is the second in our series examining how technology is changing our daily lives. Starting in a surprising Uber ride that Josh and Michael recently took, they look at how customer ratings have given us all an incentive to spy on one another. Terms of Service
Big Data powers the modern world. With tools like FitBit tracking our every step and supercomputers like IBM’s Watson helping Memorial Sloan Kettering treat cancer patients, we literally live it. Data is part of our everyday lives through social media profiles, browsing histories and discount programs. Big companies are collecting and using this information, too, and it can both help and hurt. Maybe we start making better choices about the food we eat or the money we spend. Or maybe an insurance company decides to increase its rate or even terminate a policy because it projects we’ll have diabetes in 18 months. We believe many folks want to learn more about these issues but are turned off by coverage that can be dense and jargon-laden. So we made a comic! What do we gain from Big Data? What do we lose? Co-produced by reporter Michael Keller and cartoonist Josh Neufeld, we hope this graphic novella will give you a good foundation to start asking your own questions. Armi di persuasione di massa

release date: Feb 05, 2013
— Ira Glass, This American Life “Art Spiegelman ha incontrato Marshall McLuhan.” — “The New York Observer”

The Vagabonds

release date: Jan 01, 2006
The Vagabonds
Xeric Award-winning cartoonist Josh Neufeld returns with The Vagabonds #2: Of Two Minds, featuring an array of Neufeld''s comics collaborations. Collaboration has always been part of Neufeld''s comix repertoire ¿ with Dean Haspiel in Keyhole and R. Walker in Titans of Finance, with Duplex Planet Illustrated''s David Greenberger, and with American Splendor''s Harvey Pekar (still ongoing). And in The Vagabonds #2, that tradition continues ¿ with some strange twists and turns. Contributors include Pekar, Greenberger, Walker, artist Martha Rosler, award-winning poet/memoirist Nick Flynn, literary cult figure Eileen Myles, and the New York downtown theater company The Civilians ¿ as well such offbeat collaborators as The Beatles'' "Eleanor Rigby," a 1980 issue of Superman, and Neufeld''s own mirror reflection! A good collaboration is a conversation between artist and writer, each challenging the other, with the result truly being Of Two Minds. 32 page comic book, dark brown ink on cream paper with full-color covers

Titans of Finance

release date: Oct 21, 2002
Titans of Finance
What goes up must come down. It''s a natural law that the New Economy just learned all over again. Recent times have been fantastically dramatic in the cloistered world of American business: Narratives full of larger-than-life characters, outsized egos, astonishing hubris, and lots and lots of money. It''s action-packed. It makes good comics. That''s the idea behind Titans of Finance, a new and groundbreaking merger of reality - straight from the business pages - and comix. You''ve never seen anything like it: True tales from the world of big money, wittily translated through America''s most populist medium. Meet Ron Perelman, the man who made millions while presiding over the Mighty Marvel Comics train wreck. Thrill to the antics of "Chainsaw" Al Dunlap, Mike "The V-Man" Vranos, and "Jaybird" Goldinger - and many more of Wall Street''s most well-known Icaruses. These aren''t just instructive episodes about the current climate. They''re timeless tales, like the Bible or Cats. Never mind Spawn and Spider-man. These are our superheroes now. These tales "hit the mark," says Harvey Pekar, and are "a brilliant use of the medium," according to TheStreet.com''s James J. Cramer. Best of all, it''s all true! Titans of Finance is entirely based on press accounts. The results are mind-blowing. Over the past five years, in fact, Titans has crushed the benchmark S&P 500. You''ve never seen anything like it - this is one acquisition you won''t regret.
