Fight

release date: Apr 01, 2025
Fight
It was the election America dreaded, a rematch between the two oldest men to serve as president. But somewhere along the way, the 2024 battle for the White House became the most jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, head-turning contest in American history. The ride was so wild that it forced a sitting president to drop his re-election bid, a once and future president to survive felony convictions and a would-be assassin''s bullet, and a vice president, unexpectedly thrust into the arena, to mount an unprecedented 107-day campaign to lead the free world. Fight is the backstage story of bloodsport politics in its rawest form--the clawing, backstabbing, and rabble-rousing that drove Donald Trump into the White House and Democrats into the wilderness. At every turn, the combatants went for the jugular, whether they were facing down rivals in the other party or their own. Bestselling authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes give readers their first graphic view of the characters, their motivations, and their innermost thoughts as they battled to claim the ultimate prize and define a political era. Based on real-time interviews with more than 150 insiders--from the Trump, Harris, and Biden inner circles, as well as party leaders and operatives--Fight delivers the vivid and stunning tale of an election unlike any other. In the end, Trump overcame voters'' concerns about his personal flaws by tapping into a deep vein of dissatisfaction with the direction of the country. At the same time, Democrats struggled to connect with an electorate that felt gaslit by Biden''s insistence that he had delivered economic prosperity--and his pledge to be a "bridge" president. He tore his party asunder, leaving destroyed personal relationships in his wake, as he clung to power. And when he gave it up, he kneecapped Harris by demanding unprecedented loyalty from her. As Allen and Parnes have done in the #1 New York Times bestseller Shattered and Lucky, they provide readers with a skeleton key to the rooms where it all happened, revealing a story more shocking than previously reported.

Lucky

release date: Mar 02, 2021
Lucky
The inside story of the historic 2020 presidential election and Joe Biden’s harrowing ride to victory, from the #1 New York Times bestselling authors of Shattered, the definitive account of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Almost no one thought Joe Biden could make it back to the White House—not Donald Trump, not the two dozen Democratic rivals who sought to take down a weak front-runner, not the mega-donors and key endorsers who feared he could not beat Bernie Sanders, not even Barack Obama. The story of Biden’s cathartic victory in the 2020 election is the story of a Democratic Party at odds with itself, torn between the single-minded goal of removing Donald Trump and the push for a bold progressive agenda that threatened to alienate as many voters as it drew. In Lucky, #1 New York Times bestselling authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes use their unparalleled access to key players inside the Democratic and Republican campaigns to unfold how Biden’s nail-biting run for the presidency vexed his own party as much as it did Trump. Having premised his path on unlocking the Black vote in South Carolina, Biden nearly imploded before he got there after a relentless string of misfires left him freefalling in polls and nearly broke. Allen and Parnes brilliantly detail the remarkable string of chance events that saved him, from the botched Iowa caucus tally that concealed his terrible result, to the pandemic lockdown that kept him off the stump, where he was often at his worst. More powerfully, Lucky unfolds the pitched struggle within Biden’s general election campaign to downplay the very issues that many Democrats believed would drive voters to the polls, especially in the wake of Trump’s response to nationwide protests following the murder of George Floyd. Even Biden’s victory did not salve his party’s wounds; instead, it revealed a surprising, complicated portrait of American voters and crushed Democrats’ belief in the inevitability of a blue wave. A thrilling masterpiece of political reporting, Lucky is essential reading for understanding the most important election in American history and the future that will come of it.

Shattered

Shattered
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER It was never supposed to be this close. And of course she was supposed to win. How Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump is the riveting story of a sure thing gone off the rails. For every Comey revelation or hindsight acknowledgment about the electorate, no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary''s campaign--the candidate herself. Through deep access to insiders from the top to the bottom of the campaign, political writers Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes have reconstructed the key decisions and unseized opportunities, the well-intentioned misfires and the hidden thorns that turned a winnable contest into a devastating loss. Drawing on the authors'' deep knowledge of Hillary from their previous book, the acclaimed biography HRC, Shattered offers an object lesson in how Hillary herself made victory an uphill battle, how her difficulty articulating a vision irreparably hobbled her impact with voters, and how the campaign failed to internalize the lessons of populist fury from the hard-fought primary against Bernie Sanders. Moving blow-by-blow from the campaign''s difficult birth through the bewildering terror of election night, Shattered tells an unforgettable story with urgent lessons both political and personal, filled with revelations that will change the way readers understand just what happened to America on November 8, 2016.

A Profile of Jewish Believers in the UK Church

release date: Mar 02, 2018
A Profile of Jewish Believers in the UK Church
Given that mission agencies have been reporting for the last two hundred years or more the number of Jewish people coming to faith in Christ, this book asks the question: where are they and their descendants now? Using a multidisciplinary approach, covering social identity theory, social memory theory, and translation theory, this book constructs a profile of Jewish believers in the UK church based upon interviews carried out with church members and leaders who are Jewish or have experience working with Jewish believers. After examining both theory and data, the conclusion is that church is a hostile environment for Jewish identity. Unlike Chinese, Ghanaian, and Korean churches whose members are encouraged to retain their traditions as diaspora communities reaching out to their own people, the church has a strongly assimilationist policy toward Jewish believers, who are encouraged—even pressured—to forget their Jewish traditions, customs, and practices in favor of blending into Gentile church and disappearing. Jewish believers are at best an oxymoron; at worst, an anathema, not to be trusted or tolerated unless—as in the days of the early church from the third century onwards—they renounce their previous lives, families, and communities.

The Ministry of Yeshua of Nazareth

release date: May 13, 2015
The Ministry of Yeshua of Nazareth
What would have happened if the writers of the four Gospel accounts had gotten together and hashed over all that they had seen and heard from Jesus during their time together in ministry and co-wrote a book detailing that ministry? Instead of the four gospels, we would have a single geographically and chronologically-correct narrative of all of the events of that momentous era. The Ministry of Yeshua of Nazareth is just such an attempt. Carefully footnoted, this book coalesces all of the details of each event that is recorded in the Gospels into a single narrative. This exercise, which has taken three years to complete is true to the biblical accounts in geography, chronology, characters and teachings. On those occasions where the author adds to the biblical narrative for continuity or context, such additions are noted as such. This approach has led to some interesting biblically supported observations about the people and events of that place and time which will enrich the reader''s appreciation for the commitment and sacrifices made by Jesus and all of his followers during their eventful and tumultuous ministry. Be sure to keep your Bible handy as you read!

The Scaling of High Harmonics with Mid-infrared Driving Fields and a Method for the Spatial Isolation of Individual Subfemtosecond Pulses

release date: Jan 01, 2012
The Scaling of High Harmonics with Mid-infrared Driving Fields and a Method for the Spatial Isolation of Individual Subfemtosecond Pulses
Abstract: The XUV bursts generated from the strong field processes in both gas and solid targets are increasingly becoming important coherent light sources within laboratories as the nature of their generation and control is better understood and are driving the push into studies of attosecond-scale processes in nature. This work discusses experimental studies on the characterization and application of the XUV pulses generated using both infrared and mid-infrared laser sources with femtosecond pulse durations and kHz repetition rates. The methods employed involve the manipulation of the driving fields to gain insight on the nature of the interactions between the material and field that lead to the modulation of the original waveform responsible for the observed high harmonics. Three different experiments are presented that seek to characterize the trend of the harmonics with driving wavelength, reconstruct the orbital structure of molecular targets, and spatially isolate the individual XUV bursts from each optical cycle of the driving pulse.
