The Trumpet

release date: Jan 31, 2012
The Trumpet
In the first major book devoted to the trumpet in more than two decades, John Wallace and Alexander McGrattan trace the surprising evolution and colorful performance history of one of the world''s oldest instruments. They chart the introduction of the trumpet and its family into art music, and its rise to prominence as a solo instrument, from the Baroque "golden age," through the advent of valved brass instruments in the nineteenth century, and the trumpet''s renaissance in the jazz age. The authors offer abundant insights into the trumpet''s repertoire, with detailed analyses of works by Haydn, Handel, and Bach, and fresh material on the importance of jazz and influential jazz trumpeters for the reemergence of the trumpet as a solo instrument in classical music today. Wallace and McGrattan draw on deep research, lifetimes of experience in performing and teaching the trumpet in its various forms, and numerous interviews to illuminate the trumpet''s history, music, and players. Copiously illustrated with photographs, facsimiles, and music examples throughout, The Trumpet will enlighten and fascinate all performers and enthusiasts [Publisher description].

Where Is God in His Church?

Where Is God in His Church?
John Wallace Whitehead has been blessed to view the church as a purist. With no agenda, program, or bias, he is able to describe clearly the perception of those who are not in the family of God yet and what is on their minds about Gods people, the Church. He is able to challenge the complicated church culture that has been embedded for years with simplicity. He writes with concern filled with humility. He presents challenges with compassion. And most important, he is Christ-centered without compromise. Using a teaching technique that Jesus used in His ministry, John presents penetrating questions that reach to the very core of your soul. They are probing and revelatory. You will find metaphors in his writing to hang your thoughts upon. He brings you to a decisive moment in serving the Lord: What will you do now? Where Is God in His Church? is your passport to understanding and freedom. A new song will arise in your soul and you will be re-energized in doing Gods work Gods way for God''s results! Boardwalk Empire A-Z
As the details of HBO''s Boardwalk Empire emerged, it quickly became the most anticipated programme in the network''s history. The excitement was understandable - not only was the show created by Terence Winter, the man behind The Sopranos, but Martin Scorsese was one of the executive producers and would make a rare crossover to television by directing the pilot. Plus the cast was headed by the great Steve Buscemi and included some of the finest character actors in the business, whose previous work has included No Country for Old Men, This is England, and The Wire. Now that the prohibition epic has finally hit our screens, Boardwalk Empire has proven to be every bit as smart, brutal and thrilling as had been anticipated. Already renewed for a second season, it is set to become one of the defining series of the decades. This indispensible accompaniment to the show is brimming with fascinating details about the series, covering the historical background, how the 1920s was reconstructed, the realities of filming, biographies of key members of the cast and crew, and much, much more.
