#WorkSchoolHours

release date: Mar 04, 2024
#WorkSchoolHours
Every working parent knows how hard the juggle is. Now we know the cause. It’s time to get work to work better for people. Right now, we are expected to work as though we don’t have kids and parent as though we don’t have jobs. It is not sustainable. It’s causing people to leave the workforce, or to sacrifice valuable family time – and simultaneously hurting organisations as retention and productivity take a nosedive. #WorkSchoolHours offers us all a better framework – one that takes us far beyond how we structure our work schedules to deliver us better commercial outcomes for businesses, better careers for all working people, and better lives for everyone. Building on decades of research and lived experiences, #WorkSchoolHours gives us practical insights and immediately actionable solutions. Let’s reduce hours spent working, so we can connect more with what matters in life – and do it in a way that is commercially smart for organisations. Praise for #WorkSchoolHours “A change-the-freaking-world book.” – Mark Crysell, TVNZ SUNDAY correspondent “An absolute must-read that will linger in your thoughts long after you've turned the final page.” – Steve Jurkovich - Chief Executive, KiwiBank “Even the skeptic in me is totally convinced.” – Eric Chapman - Director of Business Transformation, EY “Ellen's precise wisdom is a game-changer” – Dr Ron McDowall, ONZM - Director of Rutherford Business Institute “A research-backed, implementable solution where everybody wins.” – Stephania Varalli - Story Strategist, serial entrepreneur, and former CEO and owner of Women of Influence, Canada

Ghost of Summer Past

release date: Aug 29, 2014
Ghost of Summer Past
Although Ghost of Summer Past is a story "about" children, it is not a story "for" children. It's the summer of 1946, just nine months after the end of WWII. Nine year old Lex, who lost her father in the war, lives with her mother in a tranquil village in Pennsylvania. Lex and her friends live in a world where no one locks their doors. They have total freedom to roam the countryside without adult supervision. They can safely stay outside after dark, to play hide and seek, or to catch lightning bugs. They look out for, and take care of, each other. But just as the world has changed after the war, so will this little village. Lex and her friends are excited about the start of another summer vacation, but this summer will turn out to be far different than they expect. Because evil has come to their village, searching for prey. They have no way of knowing, that as they go about their everyday activities, they are being watched. And once chosen, they will be manipulated until they walk willingly into the web. Will the danger be discovered before it's too late? Who will be targeted? Who can be trusted? Lex will find herself in the center of a mystery. And as she searches for answers, she will have to overcome confusion, before she can understand the truth. Only one thing is certain, there will be a loss of innocence for the village and all of its inhabitants.

A General Area Air Traffic Controller Simulation Using Colour Graphics

A General Area Air Traffic Controller Simulation Using Colour Graphics
The increased speed of aircraft and a greater density of air traffic are overtaxing air traffic controllers. Automation of some portions of the controller's information and the use of colour to highlight dangerous situations will make the controller's work easier and possibly more accurate. One of the major aims of the study is to show that the use of a different colours to indicate varying distances between aircraft is a definite improvement over a monochrome display. The other major aim is to study the advantages and disadvantages of vector display and raster display technologies when applied to the air traffic controller scenario. A new set of graphics display routines was developed to be used for the simulation. Much consideration was given to the best methods to optimize the display routines, with attention given to real-time constraints. Originator-supplied keywords: Secondary display, Colour graphics, Air traffic control, Programming guide, Vector refresh display, Raster refresh display, Monochrome display comparison, Simulation, and Interaction.
