Party Pooper

release date: Nov 07, 2023
Party Pooper
A hilarious, yet tender and sincere picture book about making mistakes, owning up to them, and asking forgiveness. Every party has a pooper. You may not have wanted one. You certainly did not invite one. But, inevitably, every party will have one. So what should you do? Maybe you can interest the pooper in a game? Hopefully the pooper doesn''t lay down in defeat in the middle of your Twister mat... oh, there he goes. Directly on the blue dot you needed. Perhaps you can entice the pooper with a delicious, scrumptious cake? Unless the pooper sticks his booger-y fingers directly into the layer you were most excited to eat... sigh. Oh, I know what to do! Let''s. Party. HARDER. Until... things get taken too far. Then it might be time to take a step back and do the hardest thing of all: apologize. In Party Pooper, Jennifer Gray Olson tackles complex SEL themes with expertise, grace, and laugh-out-loud humor. It''s a thoughtful, yet entertaining examination that has equal empathy for the party goers and, of course, the party pooper.

Culinary Diplomacy’s Role in the Immigrant Experience

release date: Apr 07, 2021
Culinary Diplomacy’s Role in the Immigrant Experience
In Culinary Diplomacy''s Role in the Immigrant Experience: Fiction and Memoirs of Middle Eastern Women, the emergent field of literary food studies engages with international diplomacy studies to establish books with recipes as tools of culinary diplomacy. Foundational to the argument is culinary diplomacy scholar Sam Chapple-Sokol’s concept of Citizen Culinary Diplomacy which endorses public events that promote understanding of cultures and people. However, this study challenges that definition and argues that culinary fiction and memoirs are shared interactive experiences between the author, the readers, and the culture written about. Foundational to the study are twentieth century postcolonial literary theories of Homi Bhabha and Édouard Glissant and twenty-first century transnational theory of sociologists Julian Go and Ulrich Beck to recognize culinary diplomacy''s vital role in international affairs. Culinary Diplomacy’s Role in the Immigrant Experience examines food as metaphorical expression in literature, and the impact of time, space, and place in developing diplomatic relationships between East and West in books by Diana Abu-Jaber, Donia Bijan, Joanne Harris, and Marsha Mehran.

Frank Lloyd Wright

release date: Jan 01, 2017
Frank Lloyd Wright
Published in conjunction with a major exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, this catalogue reveals new perspectives on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, a designer so prolific and familiar as to nearly preclude critical reexamination. Structured as a series of inquiries into the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives, the book is a collection of scholarly explorations rather than an attempt to construct a master narrative. Each chapter centers on a key object from the archive that an invited author has "unpacked"-interpreting and contextualizing it, tracing its meanings and connections, and juxtaposing it with other works from the archive, from MoMA, or from outside collections. The publication aims to open up Wright''s work to questions, interrogations, and debates, and to highlight interpretations by contemporary scholars, both established Wright experts and others considering this iconic figure from new and illuminating perspectives.
