Ma, partito da Giacobbe, Frazer lo abbandona subito per avventurarsi nel mondo dei primitivi. Di qui l''avvio per uno dei contributi più originali dell''intera opera di Frazer, questa volta dedicata all''analisi dei meccanismi di una struttura fondamentale della società: il matrimonio. Noi europei ci troviamo dinnanzi a un problema che scavalca il nostro orizzonte mentale e ci costringe a scoprire quanto relativamente isolato sia il nostro sistema matrimoniale.
