I have gathered together in this book numerous ideas which Allâh, the provider of intellect, has enabled me to profit from as day succeeded day, [and year succeeded year] and circumstances altered, permitting me to understand the vicissitudes of fate and to control its fluctuations, to the extent that I have devoted the larger part of my life to it. I have chosen to master these problems by study and contemplation, rather than throw myself into the various sensual pleasures which attract most souls on this earth, and rather than amass unnecessary wealth. I have gathered together all my observations into this book in the hope that the Almighty may allow it to benefit whichever of His servants He wishes who has access to [is capable of understanding] my book, in the matters over which I have slaved, devoting all my efforts to them and reflecting at length upon them. I hope that it will be well received, and I present it with good intentions and blessings [with a good heart]. This book will benefit a person more than financial treasures and possessions of property, if he meditates upon it, and if Allâh enables him to make good use of it. As for myself, my hope in this enterprise is to win the greatest reward from Allâh, since my intention is to help His servants, to remedy whatever is corrupt in their character, and to heal the sickness of their souls. The miracles of the Prophet (saw) is an outstanding book of Al-Muhaddith Ibn Katheer which deals with the miracles performed by the Prophet Muhammad (saw) over the twenty three years of his Prophethood. About the Author Al Hafidh Ibn Katheer was born in Busra located in Modern day Syria, in the year 701 AH, 1303 CE. After the death of his father, Ibn Katheer travelled together with his brother to Syria during the year 707 AH to seek knowledge. He was known to have a strong memory and a fine understanding. Ibn Hajr (ra) said: "He was the representative of the science of Hadith among the scholars of jurisprudence and during his lifetime, he authored books which benefited people even after his death. He rose to be among the most prominent scholars specializing in the science of hadith, history and exegesis (Tafsir). He died in the month of Sha''ban in the year 774 AH - 1373 CE in Damascus and was buried at the cemetery of Al-Sufiyah besides Ibn Taymiyyah (ra).

Sunan Ibn Majah is a collection of hadith of the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him). It is widely considered to be the sixth of the six canonical collection of hadith (Kutub as-Sittah) of the Sunnah of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him).

Birr al-Wālidayn is a short treatise on the subject of being dutiful to parents which was published recently for the first time. This treatise is significant because Imam Bukhārī appears to be the first person to pen a treatise specifically on this subject. It comprises 75 hadiths which are transmitted under various chapter headings focusing on two broad themes: being dutiful to parents and maintaining family ties. This English translation is accompanied by succinct and insightful commentary from Mufti Yusuf Shabbir, in addition to appendices featuring the narrations transmitted by Imam Bukhārī on the same topic in his Ṣaḥīḥ and Al-Adab al-Mufrad, chains of transmission and biographies of the narrators.

Khalid bin Al-Waleed was one of the greatest generals in history, and one of the greatest heroes of history. Besides him, Genghis Khan was the only other general to remain undefeated in his entire military life. Khalid was sent to the Persian Empire with an army consisting of 18,000 volunteers to conquer the richest province of the Persian empire, Euphrates region of lower Mesopotamia, (present day Iraq). Khalid entered lower Mesopotamia with this force. He won quick victories in four consecutive battles: the Battle of Chains, fought in April 633; the Battle of River, fought in the third week of April 633; the Battle of Walaja, fought in May 633 (where he successfully used a double envelopment manoeuvre), and Battle of Ullais, fought in the mid-May 633. In the last week of May 633, al-Hira, the regional capital city of lower Mesopotamia, fell to Khalid. The inhabitants were given peace on the terms of annual payment of jizya (tribute) and agreed to provide intelligence for Muslims. After resting his armies, in June 633, Khalid laid siege to Anbar which despite fierce resistance fell in July 633 as a result of the siege imposed on the town. Khalid then moved towards the south, and captured Ein ul Tamr in the last week of July, 633.

Shaikh Muhammad al-Tahir ibn Ashur is the most renowned Zaytuna Imam and one of the great Islamic scholars of the 20th century. The publication of this translation of Shaikh Ibn Ashur’s Treatise on Maqasid al-Shari’ah is a breakthrough in studies on Islamic law in the English language. In this book, Ibn Ashur proposed Maqasid as a methodology for the renewal of the theory of Islamic law, which has not undergone any serious development since the era of the great imams. Ibn Ashur – quite courageously – also addressed the sensitive topic of the intents/Maqasid of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) behind his actions and decisions. The stories of the prophets is the great work of the famous Muslim scholar Ibn Kathir. He has a prominent place in the Islamic literature. Notably, he wrote the biography (Al-Sira Al-Nabawiyya) of the life of Muhammad and Stories of the Prophets (Qisas Al-Anbiya) a collection of tales from the Quran on the various Prophets of Islam and other Old Testament characters. Al-Bukhari and Muslim transmitted most of its hadiths and included them in their sahih collections. The authors of the rest of the six books, the Imam of the hadith scholars, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and others did the same.

In 922 AD, an Arab envoy from Baghdad named Ibn Fadlan encountered a party of Viking traders on the upper reaches of the Volga River. In his subsequent report on his mission he gave a meticulous and astonishingly objective description of Viking customs, dress, table manners, religion and sexual practices, as well as the only eyewitness account ever written of a Viking ship cremation. Between the ninth and fourteenth centuries, Arab travellers such as Ibn Fadlan journeyed widely and frequently into the far north, crossing territories that now include Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Their fascinating accounts describe how the numerous tribes and peoples they encountered traded furs, paid tribute and waged wars. This accessible new translation offers an illuminating insight into the world of the Arab geographers, and the medieval lands of the far north.

Al-''Iqd al-Farid (The Unique Necklace) is one of the classics of Arabic literature. Compiled in several volumes by an Andalusian scholar and poet named Ibn ''Abd Rabbih (246-328 A.H. / 860-940 C.E.), it remains a wealth of information about various elements of Arab culture and letters during the four centuries before Ibn ''Abd Rabbih''s death. Essentially, it is a book of adab, a term understood in modern times to specifically mean literature, but in earlier times its meaning included all that a well-informed person had to know in order to pass in society as a cultured and refined individual. This meaning later evolved and included belles letters in the form of elegant prose and verse that was as much entertaining as it was morally educational - such as poetry, pleasant anecdotes, proverbs, historical accounts, general knowledge, wise maxims, and even practical philosophy. Ibn ''Abd Rabbih''s imagination and organization saved his encyclopedic compendium from becoming a chaotic jumble of materials by conceiving of it as a necklace composed of 25 ''books, '' each of which carried the name of a jewel. Each of the 25 ''books'' was organized around a major theme and had an introduction written by Ibn ''Abd Rabbih, followed by his relevant adab selections of verse and prose on the theme of the ''book.'' He drew on a vast repertoire of sources including the Bible, the Qur''an, and the Hadith, and the works of al-Jahiz, ibn Qutayba, al-Mubarrad, Abu ''Ubayda ibn al-Muthanna, and several others, as well as the diwans of many Arab poets, including his own poetry. Volume I of this translation of al-''Iqd al-Farid contains four of its 25 ''books.'' Volume II, contains two more. Volume III - now available in paperback - contains a further four ''books.'' This book - now available in paperback - was originally written in the early 11th century by Abu al-Faraj ''Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Hindu (d. 423/1032), a physician who was also the author of a treatise on philosophy, and who was famous for his Arabic poetry (his anthology is said to have amounted to 15,000 couplets or more). For a medieval work, which was written as an introduction to medicine intended for students, the book is refreshingly meticulous in its analysis and is modern in its outlook. It discusses the various disciplines that a medical student should have been familiar with, including a lengthy digression into philosophy and logic. It then deals with matters specifically medical, devoting separate sections to anatomy, diseases, pulse, and names of medicinal substances.

Beginning with biographical notes on the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, Ibn Asakir takes the reader through a remarkable collection of hadith describing the virtues of the ‘Mothers of the Believers’, an appellation invested on the wives of the Propheﷺ by the Qur’anic text itself.
