This challenging new study examines gender and sexuality in relation to race and colonialism in sport. Focusing on six case studies (the Vancouver Olympics, London Olympics, Sochi Olympics, Rio World Cup and Olympics, Israeli gay sport and Egyptian soccer ultras), the book addresses racism and colonialism within gay and lesbian politics in sport. It also investigates 'homonationalism' in sport, where the inclusion of gays and lesbians is closely aligned to the interests of the colonial nation-states. Most importantly, this study offers a counter-narrative to the view that gay and lesbian inclusion in global sporting events necessarily promotes global peace and international development.

In light of the changing demographic landscape of Canada over the past several years this dissertation seeks to answer the question: How will the mainline church respond to growing cultural diversity in our communities? Beyond Cordiality invites readers to listen to the experiences of one multi-ethnic congregation in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that is learning how to be a community that celebrates diversity. The study examines what this thesis has termed "practices of mutual hospitality" within the congregation that have contributed to a feeling of belonging and multi-ethnic growth. These practices of mutual hospitality are viewed through the lens of established intercultural competence models to gain insight into intercultural competence levels and measurement possibilities. The Deardorff Process Model of Intercultural Competence, the Bennett (Developmental) Model of Intercultural Sensitivity and the Rathje Coherence-Cohesion (Co-Orientational) Model of Intercultural Competence provided valuable insight into understanding intercultural competence in congregational settings. Conclusions reveal that there is a way forward for congregations who wish to become multi-ethnic communities of faith. This study proposes that there are important practices of mutual hospitality and practical actions congregations can take to build intercultural competence within their communities. These practices help continue to foster the feeling of belonging within communities that are culturally diverse. Practical applications include inspired leadership, educational development, renewed worship and holistic visioning. It is possible for churches to reflect the communities in which they exist by engaging in intentional actions to reach out across cultural divides and engage with the "other."

This exploratory study in professional sports luxury suite ownership was conducted to provide professionals in suite sales and facility management an increased understanding of the characteristics of corporate luxury suite owners. The business portion of suite client lists were collected and analyzed through a collaborative effort between the Center for Sports Administration at Ohio University, the Association of Luxury Suite Directors, Full House Entertainment Database Marketing, and Turnkey Sports and Entertainment. Strategically selected professional sports franchises and venues within the top 50 media markets nationwide were invited to participate in the research by submitting their luxury suite client lists. Ultimately, 25 markets were represented in the study. The sample of suite owners (n = 2,154) was then analyzed using the master business database from infoUSA to determine the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)/industry code, sales volume/asset size, business status, and year established of each suite client. Three hundred and forty-three SIC codes were represented by the 1,956 client matches. Overall, 39.4% of all suite owners were represented within the top 10 SIC codes with an additional 11.2% in positions 11-21. The top industry owning luxury suites was banks/ bank holding companies and the second largest SIC was attorneys/legal services. The collaborative effort between academia and industry has provided luxury suite sales professionals and facility managers important information on types and sizes of companies owning luxury suites and has given venues and franchises the ability to assess their own penetration into the top industry and size segments of suite ownership.

While examining the culture of intercollegiate athletics, one could confuse the criticisms of the past with those today. Since the 1800s, individuals calling for the reform of intercollegiate athletics have described improper recruiting of student-athletes, disorderly conduct promoted by sport, and the expense of intercollegiate athletics (U.S. House of Representatives, 2004; Welch, 1996). The desire to eliminate concerns about intercollegiate athletics and create fair competition has led to volumes of rules and regulations organized by various governing bodies. The most powerful of these governing bodies is the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). NCAA rules govern behaviors ranging from when a college coach can first contact a high school athlete to how many meals a student-athlete is permitted to receive on the day of a competition (NCAA, n.d.). There are so many rules specific to recruiting that an entire section of the NCAA Manual is dedicated to it (NCAA). The media has often portrayed recruiting as a rogue affair with institutions of higher education having little regard for NCAA rules and local, state, and federal laws (Anderson & Dohrmann, 2004; Goral, 2004; Jacobson & Suggs, 2004; Wieberg, 2005). The purpose of this research was to explore the behaviors of NCAA Division I recruited student-athletes during their official recruiting visits.

Financial accountability pressures in higher education force athletic departments to closely examine their expenditures to ensure that cost-efficient managerial approaches are used in all facets of operations, including facility management. Five distinct management models are currently used by intercollegiate athletic departments to manage arenas hosting National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's basketball competitions (Palmero, Li & Lawrence, 2010). Little research is available to help athletic administrators understand each of the models and determine which model would provide them with the most benefits when contemplating whether or not they should change the management model utilized in operating their arenas. The purpose of this study was to fill this gap in the public assembly facility management literature and to assist athletic directors in choosing the most cost-effective arena operations model possible.

Infusing new money into high school athletic programs is an ongoing challenge for many athletic directors. Unfortunately, funding often lags far behind the actual expenses of athletic departments at the level expected by students and parents. Although high school athletics is a completely different enterprise in philosophy and mission than that of intercollegiate athletics, there are some ideas from intercollegiate athletics that are useful for high school athletic directors to explore.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to provide a framework for team selling to sports firms that can be used to more effectively select members for sales and CRM teams and improves the performance of teams in attracting and retaining premium seating customers.Design/Methodology/Approach: The authors provide a two-stage framework based on the personal selling process and the activities that support CRM programs. Recommendations are guided by the sport marketing and team selling literature streams and by best practices in sport marketing.Findings: The authors recommend the formation of two teams (personal selling and CRM) during the Customer Relationship Cycle (Rigby and Ledingham, 2004) and provide guidelines for team member selection based on the critical activities that occur during the personal selling and CRM processes. Key success factors are provided, including the establishment of a customer-focused organization and effective communication practices among team members and between selling teams.Originality/Value: Although the use of selling teams is gaining popularity in several industries, the broader sales literature lacks research that can support the development and effective management of selling teams (Jones et al., 2005). Within the sport marketing literature, there is no research on selling teams. The main academic contribution of this article is the cross-disciplinary merging of existing team selling research in the sales literature with current research and industry information on marketing and sales by sport organizations (luxury suite sales). For the practitioner, the framework provides guidance on effective team member selection and best practices for the effective management of selling teams.
