"Purpose: Research shows definite connections between food choices and caries, periodontal disease, and oral cancer. Dental hygienists have the unique opportunity to educate patients on how nutrition can improve oral health. Dental hygiene students are introduced to these concepts but struggle to gain confidence to share this knowledge with patients. This study looked at an educational module on motivational interviewing (MI) and an electronic assessment tool to build student confidence with nutritional counseling. Methods: Students participated in an educational module to review MI and introduce the electronic nutritional risk assessment and counseling tool. Prior to the module, participants completed a pretest about attitudes and confidence levels regarding MI and nutritional counseling. After three weeks of clinical practice, participants completed a posttest including the same questions, a report on the frequency of nutritional counseling sessions, and open-ended questions. Data was compared for quantitative changes and qualitative themes from participant responses. Results: Twenty-two students (n = 22) participated in both pretest and posttest. There were statistically significant changes in participants'' frequency of nutritional counseling sessions (p = 0.049) as well as in their confidence (p = 0.007) and comfort (p = 0.020) discussing nutrition with patients. Participants struggled to become more confident in MI as demonstrated with no significant change in their feelings surrounding MI (p = 0.150). Students reporting increased nutritional counseling sessions showed improvement in their confidence with nutritional counseling. Conclusion: Introducing MI with an electronic assessment tool to aid dental hygiene students can improve confidence with nutritional counseling"--Page vi-vii.

By age 25, Heather Anderson had hiked what is known as the "Triple Crown" of backpacking: the Appalachian Trail (AT), Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), and Continental Divide Trail (CDT)—a combined distance of 7,900 miles with a vertical gain of more than one million feet. A few years later, she left her job, her marriage, and a dissatisfied life and walked back into those mountains. In her new memoir, Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home, Heather, whose trail name is "Anish," conveys not only her athleticism and wilderness adventures, but also shares her distinct message of courage--her willingness to turn away from the predictability of a more traditional life in an effort to seek out what most fulfills her. Heather has hiked more than twenty thousand miles since 2003, including ten thru-hikes. An ultramarathon runner, she has completed six 100-mile races since August 2011 as well as dozens of 50 km and 50-mile events. She has attempted the infamous Barkley Marathons four times, starting a third loop once. Heather is also an avid mountaineer working on several ascent lists in the US and abroad.

"Background: Targeting the tumor microenvironment has become a promising avenue of oncology, however little is known about this aspect in medulloblastoma. The tumor microenvironment includes many components which may either inhibit or promote malignant growth. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and neutrophils have demonstrated both pro- and anti-tumoral activity that can vary between tumor types. Senescent cells exhibit a senescent associated secretory phenotype (SASP) which can affect neighboring tumor cells, immune cell infiltration, and cell differentiation. We aimed to characterize the tumor microenvironment in the pediatric brain tumor Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) medulloblastoma.Methods/Results: Using the Ptch1+/- mouse model of Shh medulloblastoma, we have shown that the tumor microenvironment evolves as the tumor develops. In preneoplasia there are macrophages and senescent cells. Peripheral macrophage depletion with clodronate liposomes did not affect TAM density early in tumorigenesis, suggesting that at the preneoplastic stage TAMs originate from the microglia rather than the periphery. Through ablation with Navitoclax, we found that senescent cells restrict preneoplasia growth. Advanced tumors have a more complex microenvironment including macrophages and neutrophils. Both M1-like and M2-like macrophages are present in tumors, and they aggregate in regions of high apoptosis and low proliferation. Through comparing tissues of bypassed senescence or potentially-unrestricted SASP activity, we show that neither macrophage, neutrophil, nor stem cell densities are affected by senescent cells. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that the tumor microenvironment of medulloblastoma evolves, becoming more complex as the tumor progresses to advanced stage. Senescent cells restrict tumor growth during early stages, suggesting their SASP is inducing paracrine senescence. Understanding the tumor microenvironment of medulloblastoma may lend insights into how this tumor can be targeted with immunotherapy agents"--

What is prisoners'' radio? Who is involved in «creating» these types of programs and what influence do they have on discourses of law and order? Internationally, radio that operates for, or by, prisoners exists almost exclusively within the community radio context. Little has been documented about the genre so far. Raising the Civil Dead seeks to address this lack of information. It examines prisoners'' radio as citizens'' media, connecting directly to notions of civic responsibility. It focuses on the ways in which people produce media and how these activities transform those individuals. The research is the result of four in-depth case studies conducted in two countries, complemented by an international inventory of prisoners'' radio programs and stations.
