A Daily Diary Study of Alcohol Use After Dating Violence Among College Students

release date: Jan 01, 2021
A Daily Diary Study of Alcohol Use After Dating Violence Among College Students
The current dissertation examined the temporal relationship between dating violence (DV) victimization and alcohol use, the moderating role of self-control between this relationship, and differences in drinking patterns between unidirectional and bidirectional violence. One hundred and eighty-one couples completed surveys for 60 consecutive days and reported on their DV experiences, alcohol use, and variables related to selfcontrol depletion. Results partially supported study hypotheses. Participants were significantly more likely to engage in heavy drinking after physical DV victimization and drank a significantly greater number of drinks. Contrary to study hypotheses, participants were less likely to drink after psychological and sexual violence. When considering the direction of violence, participants were more likely to drink after bidirectional sexual violence compared to unidirectional violence, but no other significant results emerged. Regarding moderation, on days where self-control was low participants were generally more likely to drink. Significant interactions emerged between DV victimization and selfcontrol, such that on days with low self- ontrol, individuals who had experienced sexual violence were more likely to engage in heavy drinking, and individuals who had experience physical violence were more likely to drink. The moderated association for sexual victimization was stronger when DV was bidirectional. Some gender differences emerged in exploratory analyses, such that men consumed a higher number of drinks than women after physical violence. Additionally, a three- way interaction emerged indicating that the moderating relationship between self-control and physical victimization was stronger for men relative to women. Additionally, the relationship between self-control and drinking on days after sexual DV victimization was stronger among men with better self-control. Implications of results and directions for future research are discussed.

Fifty-four participants ranging between the ages of 24 and 74 were involved in the study. Study findings indicated a significant difference in the use of technology between Baby Boomer and Millennial and no significant difference in the levels of morale and the effect of life experiences between generations.

Father Forgive Me

People know at first glance that we are trouble. Father, Forgive Me: Confessions of a Southern Baptist Preacher's Kid is a humorous, self-deprecating memoir of a preacher's kid (PK) growing up in the South. Do you want to know what really goes on behind the closed doors of a parsonage? Do you ever wonder how preachers nickname their parishioners and talk in secret code about the members of their flocks? Have you ever wondered how preachers' wives help keep the family on an even keel? For all who have ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in a minister's home, this is the book that will expose it all-including what happens when a minister's wife shoots one of her own children!

Sleepwalking Through History
National bestseller: In this brilliantly readable book, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist chronicles the Reagan decade, when America fell from dominant world power to struggling debtor nation and when optimism turned to foreboding. In human terms and living case histories, Haynes Johnson captures the drama and tragedy of an era nurtured by greed and a morality that found virtue in not getting caught. "It is morning again in America," Reagan's campaign commercials told us, and for too long we embraced that convenient lie. Indeed, the problems that came to plague us in that decade are with us even more today, as Johnson memorably demonstrates in--his afterword, "Notes on an Era," written especially for this new paperback reissue. This book will remain a signature work of political analysis for years to come.
