A cryptic text through the NUMA satellite network makes things still stranger: these odd phrases and numbers look like NUMA codes. But who could be tantalizing the crew with such specific knowledge of their tech? Are they being helped by an old friend, or lured into a trap by a traitor who knows a little too much about NUMA’s inner workings? Kurt, Joe, and even Max, the agency’s supercomputer, will have to investigate like never before as they decrypt data, infiltrate a cult of cloned men, and prepare for a battle on two very different planes: one physical; one digital. The aquatic stranding was just the beginning of a sinister plan concocted by a mind more brilliant than any they’ve ever faced—the mind of a machine. A new, terrifying world order is being plotted. Sanctioning Saddam

release date: Dec 31, 1999
Sanctioning Saddam
Throughout the 1990s, Iraq has been the target not only of military attack but of the most draconian and protracted economic embargo ever imposed by the international community. In the immediate aftermath of the Gulf War, the embargo was accompanied by an effort to provide aid to the Iraqi people and to protect them against human rights abuses: an initiative that seemed to break new ground in providing protection for civilians in a situation of conflict. Yet the outcome of the international community''s efforts has fallen short of the promise. Why has there been such a large gap between the rhetoric and reality? How exactly have the combinatin of economic sanctions, international humanitarian aid and limited protection of civilians affected Iraq? What lessons can be drawn from the experience? This is the most carefully documented, comprehensive account of the consequences of intervention in Iraq during the 1990s. It examines not only the record of intervention but also the complicated political context which has shaped international policy and the Iraqi response to it, and which has made events seem so unpredictable.

X-Rays and Their Applications

X-Rays and Their Applications
This book is intended to provide a treatment of the production, properties and applications of X-rays suitable for undergraduate courses in physics. It is hoped that parts of it, at least, will be useful to students on other courses in physics, materials science, metallurgy, chemistry, engineering, etc. at various levels. It is also hoped that parts of it will serve as an introduction to the subject of X-ray crystallography, and to this end the treatment of X-ray diffraction has been designed to show the relation between the simple approach and the more sophisticated treatments. During many years of teaching this subject to Degree, Diploma in Technology and Higher National Certificate students, I have been unable to find a single book which attempts to cover the whole of this field. This lack of a treatment of X-rays and their applications in one volume has prompted me to attempt to fill the gap and this present volume is the result. Obviously in writing such a book I have referred to many existing books and I acknowledge my indebtedness to the authors of all the books which I have used. I believe that all these books are included in the re ferences at the ends of the chapters but if I have omitted any, then my apologies are offered to the authors concerned.

If Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala and the rest of the NUMA team aren''t able to find and destroy them, and soon, the world will be on the threshold of a new era of earth tremors and unchecked volcanism.
