Dead on Arrival in China

release date: Aug 01, 2023
Dead on Arrival in China
In September, 2004, Springfield, Mo., businessman Gordon Elliott embarked on a trip to the Far East with his wife, Glenda. The official trans-Pacific cruise ended in Japan, but Elliott had more adventure in mind. He and Glenda headed to Hong Kong. With the help of a tour guide, they enjoyed the first few days...until the unexpected happened, sending Elliott to a Chinese hospital where he was pronounced Dead on Arrival. This is the story of how the medical staff reacted, how his friends and family made it to China, and how he lived to encourage others to treat every day as their last--as the Tim McGraw song says, to "live like you are dying."

Under His Wings

Under His Wings
FOREWORD My father, Gordon Elliott, went to be with the Lord at the age of 90. He had a wonderful walk of faith, having come to Christ as a child. He joined the Canadian Airforce at age 17. When World War 11 was over, Dad left the military. He prayed and answered God''s call to become a pastor. (An unknown benefactor-to this day- sent him free tuition to Bible College in Toronto). After Bible college, he received his divinity degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He loved the verse, "Behold God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He too has become my salvation" (Isaiah 12:2, KJV). He served churches around the Toronto area, and his last twenty-five years he served God as a priest in Peterborough, Richmond Hill (St. Mary''s), and the Toronto area, where he was needed after attending the Jesuit school in Toronto. Birds brought a lot of joy to his life. An avid birdwatcher, he spent many hours on nature trails watching and listening to the birds. He could identify a great number of birds by only their song. For a time, he carved beautiful birds out of balsa wood, even showing them in the Smithsonian Institution. He also played the snare drum and the piano by ear and enjoyed hymns and bluegrass music. A kind, patient pastor, he was dearly loved. He cared about all people and worked with the Chinese (St. Agnes) community, where he learned to speak and write some Chinese as well. Many sought his counsel and advice. He had a wonderful memory, and he knew a lot of Scripture by heart. His mind was sharp right up until God took him home on December 29, 2012. "Stay close to God, love one another, tell others about Jesus, and be ready for Christ''s return." In loving memory, Mary Elliott Williams

Klondike Cattle Drive

release date: Jan 01, 2005
Klondike Cattle Drive
The latest addition to TouchWood Editions'' Classics West Collection, Klondike Cattle Drive is the colourful tale of a formidable trek undertaken by legendary Cariboo rancher Norman Lee. In 1898, Lee set out to drive 200 head of cattle from his home in the Chilcotin area of B.C. to the Klondike goldfields--a distance of 1,500 miles. He was gambling both his cattle and his life. This is his story, derived from the journal he kept, his letters and the loyal men who accompanied him. Throughout the daunting weeks of coping with mud, cold and sheer bad luck, Lee kept his sense of humour. When he returned from his Yukon trek, he rewrote the notes from his journal, illustrating his story with his own cartoons and sketches. He completed his manuscript around the turn of the century, but it sat untouched until 1960, when it was published by Howard Mitchell of Mitchell Press, Vancouver.

The Biology of Polar Habitats
NEW SERIES Biology of Habitats Series editors: Professor Michael Crawley, Dr Colin Little, Sir Richard Southwood, and Professor Staffan Ulfstrand This exciting new series of textbooks will give an integrated overview of the design, physiology, ecology, and behaviour of the organisms in different habitats. Each book will provide information about the habitat and the types of organisms present, on practical aspects of working within thehabitats and the sorts of studies which are possible, and will include a discussion of biodiversity and conservation needs. Further Reading Sections will lead the reader to key papers, review articles, and books in which the subject may be explored at greater depth. This book gives a readable overview of polar habitats, from ice caps to tundra and open ocean. It describes their physical characteristics, the communities of microorganisms, plants, and animals inhabiting them, and their interactions with the global environment. It reviews the origins of thehabitats and their subsequent colonization and population dynamics, and considers the future changes which may result from global warming, stratospheric ozone depletion, and human activities. The book is unusual in that it describes and compares the two polar regions, rather than focusing on onlyone of them.
