The Carey Girl

The Carey Girl
The Carey girl is Kit, alone in New York, an unwanted child of divorce, and now unwanted by Hugo -- with whom she has fallen in love, and who does not show up for a weekend date. Suicide seems an answer to her unhappiness, but although she buys- and takes- some (rat) poison, the next morning finds her alive- and apparently well. But later in the day severe pain drives her to a clinic, puts her in the hands of a Dr. Brown who cannot save her and who knows that she has only a few days to live. At his wife''s suggestion he brings her home with him, and together they help her to learn what life is- so that she can face death without fear- and through them, with them, she is at peace.... A small story- with an incandescent, inspirational message -- oversimplified to be sure for a certain, conservative audience.
