Maybe You!: Poems and Plays For Science As Inquiry

release date: Jun 29, 2019
Maybe You!: Poems and Plays For Science As Inquiry
A tool for teachers and parents with which they can ask students to act out science content and learn. Asking teachers and parents to hold the attention of a video screen generation as a talking head giving a lecture is like asking them to flap their arms and try to fly. It's not going to happen. Instead we can give them dramatic literature; poems, monologues, and dialogues that are rich, fun, and entertaining while complete with curriculum content so children can act them out and experience the content as though it is real life.

Weather Or Climate?: Poems & Plays about Weather & Climate

release date: Jun 01, 2019
Weather Or Climate?: Poems & Plays about Weather & Climate
Weather or Climate? Entertaining, Instructional, and Comprehensive Weather or climate? Climate or weather? Not quite the same but so close together. Climate or weather? Weather or climate? The difference is simply the way that you time it. from "Whether It's Weather" Grounded in the principle that children remember "90% of what they do in dramatic presentation," Weather or Climate? is the fourth book in the Brod Bagert's HeART of Scienceseries--a comprehensive collection of dramatic content literature. This poignant yet comical collection of dramatic poems, monologues, and short plays stimulates powerful insights into the mechanisms of everyday weather and the realities of long-term climate. At the outset, the Sun, too busy to appear in person, submits an affidavit in which he declares himself the BOSS--"I expand the gases of your atmosphere and make the wind. I transform water from liquid to gas as the engine of your water cycle. I drive the currents of your oceans." There's an understandably anxious electron who narrates her journey from part of an H2O molecule in a cumulonimbus ice crystal, to part of a "swarm" of free electrons that eventually form themselves into a lightning strike. There's a clap-along chant that visits each step of the water cycle and ends with the memory anchoring "ACCUMULATION! EVAPORATION! CONDENSATION! PRECIPITATION! H2O! H2O! H2O! GETS NO VACATION!" With scientific accuracy and knee-slapping fun, Weather or Climate? transforms the detachment of theoretical concepts into the immediacy of imagined personal experience. The journey concludes with the voice of a person determined to accept responsibility for the future because "... planet Earth's my home. I like it here a lot. Perfect? Not at all. But it's the only home I've got."

Alaska

release date: Nov 01, 2015
Alaska
Alaska tells the story of a middle-aged man on the side of a mountain, the story of a sea kayak afloat in the mystery of eternal ice - the story of civilization washed away by the magic of an ice-cold skinnydip - and in a quiet way it tells the story of a love which like the magnetic pole reaches across a continent to show the way home.

Hormone Jungle

release date: Jan 01, 2013
Hormone Jungle
The album debut for Quentin Dupieux may not have received worldwide distribution had it not been for its most publicized track, the notorious Levi's advert and crossover hit named "Flat Beat." But it's doubtful Dupieux will turn into a one-hit wonder -- and if he does, there's always his directing career -- since Analog Worms Attack is an inventive album that somehow marries the experimental side of techno (Cristian Vogel, Laurent Garnier) with the outrageous flair of novelty tracks usually seen on, well, television commercials. Even including "Flat Beat" (which was wisely added only as a bonus track), the highlights are "Monophonic Shit" and "No Day Massacre," two tracks that blend surprisingly deep grooves and oddball effects. It's not so much a sense of humor that Dupieux displays here; it's closer to the playful side of quasi-pop electronica fashioned by Mouse on Mars and Like a Tim. Fans of the trademarked "Flat Beat" sound will find much to love as well ("Smoking Tape" and "Flat 55" are most similar to the hit), making Analog Worms Attack a left-field treat for both pop-culture seekers and genuine music fans. ~ John Bush

School Fever

release date: Jul 03, 2008
School Fever
A kid's-eye view of school, crammed with enough funny to fill a big yellow bus! Snappy and hilarious in true Brod Bagert style, these goofy poems are united by their kid authenticity and quirky school themes. From a computer virus that one kid claims is sure to keep him homesick until summer vacation, to the librarian who tames "the savage beast" (a mouse run amok in the library), to a superhero recruited to scare off the school bully, this is most definitely not your typical poetry collection. Robert Neubecker's bright, dynamic artwork propels each poem into another stratosphere of funny. By the end, kids will have contracted a different strain of school fever altogether. "Kids will appreciate the humor and will see themselves in the high-energy narrator"—Booklist

A Bullfrog at Cafe Du Monde
Author¿s Note:If you bring your own coffee when you leave town, if you believe the word axe is a verb, if you consider Halloween a major holiday, then these poems are for you. If you are not familiar with New Orleans some of these poems may require a little work, but give it a try. After all, for generations New Orleans poetry lovers have cheerfully dealt with cold-country images foreign to our experience. My hero, Robert Frost, sent us frozenground swells, a cord of maple, and birches bent by ice storms. If you need a little help ask a local, but be sure you have at least an hour to spare you may find yourself sipping refreshment in the shaded courtyard of the Napoleon House as a friendly native explains the origin of the phrase neutral ground. Whoever you may be visitor, native, friend or family, open your heart to our city and hear her declaration:I am the Lady of the RiverThe city of your dreamsAnd I am stronger than I seem.Stay with me.Believe in me.Love me.I will be young again.

For all teachers: It's your life told here, dear teacher, with all its glories, warts, joys, and heartaches.
