Terminal Surf

release date: Jun 25, 2024
Terminal Surf
In the quiet charm of New England, a shocking truth washes ashore. When retired Department of Defense analyst and local columnist, Lewis Cole, stumbles upon a harrowing scene--a drowned migrant woman and her child--he is thrust into the middle of a thriving human smuggling operation on the coasts of New Hampshire and Maine. Appalled by the discovery and determined to unveil the hidden machinery of this inhumane trade, Lewis navigates the choppy waters of local politics, high emotions, and escalating violence. The undertow of the crisis grows stronger when various parties--ranging from migrant rights advocates to immigration opponents, government agencies, and news media--capitalize on the situation, each spinning the narrative to their advantage. The lines blur between right and wrong, pulling Lewis deeper into the conflict. His pursuit of justice pushes him into a deadly crossfire, forcing him into the shadowy world of human smuggling and threatening his very life. His investigative journey ends where it began, alone on the frosty Atlantic waters, battling the waves of despair and violence that surge from the far corners of the globe. He''s not just fighting for his survival, but for those who are fleeing death in their homeland. Will he be able to save them all, or die trying? Terminal Surf is the next unputdownable installment in the Lewis Cole Series by New York Times bestselling author Brendan DuBois. An action-packed thriller perfect for fans of James Patterson and Michael Connelly.

Deadly Cove
In the commotion of an anti-nuclear protest, a sudden eruption of gunfire pushes Lewis Cole into a race against time. The protesters, willing to resort to violence, are determined to seize control of a nearby nuclear power plant and halt its production. As Lewis digs into the case, he uncovers hidden connections among those advocating for nuclear power and the passionate protestors opposing it. Black Cat Weekly #106

release date: Sep 10, 2023
Black Cat Weekly #106
For our 106th issue, we seem to have developed a television theme, with a pair of great speculative fiction stories about TV: Norman Spinrad’s “Prime Time” and Henry Slesar’s “The Show Must Go On.” Spinrad’s tale is a look at a future where people can retire to relive television. And Slesar’s is a darkly cynical look behind the curtain of television production. Jack Vance, H.B. Fyfe, and Joseph Payne Brennan round out our SF and fantasy contributors this issue. “Prime Time,” incidentally, is Norman Spinrad’s fiction debut in Black Cat Weekly, and it won’t be his last story for us. He kindly went through his short fiction and selected 10 favorite stories for us to reprint in coming issues, so you’re in for a real treat. And speaking of treats, our editors are already working on some special Halloween surprises for October. I know you’ll be thoroughly spooked by some of them. Something to look forward to, as we approach my favorite holiday season. (There’s a reason we have a black cat for a mascot.) Our novel this issue is a mystery: Scarhaven Keep, by Golden Age British author J.S. Fletcher. Also in mysteries, we have an original from Nikki Knight (courtesy of Acquiring Editor Barb Goffman) and a terrific crime story by Brendan DuBois, who remains a mainstay of short mystery fiction. Of course, no issue is complete without a solve-it-yourself short from Hal Charles. Great stuff indeed. Mysteries / Suspense / Adventure: “The New York Goodbye,” by Nikki Knight [Michael Bracken Presents short story] “Last Shot,” by Hal Charles [Solve-It-Yourself Mystery] “The Road’s End,” by Brendan DuBois [Barb Goffman Presents short story] Scarhaven Keep, by J.S. Fletcher [novel] Science Fiction & Fantasy: “Prime Time,” by Norman Spinrad [short story] “The Show Must Go On,” by Henry Slesar [short story] “The Visitor in the Vault,” by Joseph Payne Brennan [short story] “The Night of No Moon,” by H.B. Fyfe [short story] “The Men Return,” by Jack Vance [short story]

First off, private detective Frank Wolf and his grandson Joel return to our pages with a new short novel by Saul Golubcow, The Dorm Murder (published simultaneously with Golubcow’s collection, The Cost of Living and Other Mysteries). This is one of my favorite series in recent years, and I highly recommend you start with The Dorm Murder. You won’t be disappointed. Black Triumph

Black Triumph
The conclusion to Brendan DuBois''s Dark Victory alien-invasion trilogy. Bestselling and award-winning author Brendan DuBois proves that even in the most desperate of times, there are still men and women alive who will take up weapons to defend what is theirs. More than ten years ago, the alien Creepers arrived in Earth’s orbit and started a war that was a slaughter for humanity. Nuclear weapons detonated in the atmosphere destroyed all electronic devices, asteroids dropped into oceans and lakes swamped cities with artificial tsunamis, and the nearly invulnerable Creepers arrived on Earth, going forth from their dome bases to attack civilians and military units at will. Sixteen-year-old Randy Knox, a newly minted lieutenant in the U.S. Army, has been fighting the Creepers since he was twelve. He has seen friends, family members and fellow soldiers killed by the Creepers, and he is tired of war. At one point, it seemed the war was over when the aliens’ orbital battle station had been destroyed. But a second Creeper orbital battle station has arrived. The war no longer seems to be over, and while returning to his home unit, Randy’s convoy is ambushed. Separated from his fellow soldiers and his K-9 companion Thor, Randy faces the ultimate horror of every American serviceman: to become a prisoner of war of the aliens. At the publisher''s request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). About prequel, Red Vengeance: “Forced into a two-front war fighting both the attacking creepers and saboteurs within his own ranks, Randy learns how far he will go to protect those he loves and defeat the Creeper menace. If you like action science fiction you will enjoy Brendan DuBois’ latest.”—Daily News of Galveston County About prequel, Dark Victory: "DuBois (Resurrection Day) has written a great series opener for a range of readers. From two-time Shamus Award winner Brendan DuBois comes the sequel to Dark Victory. A terrifying and original tale of teens who are fighting to save their lives . . . and the future of planet Earth. U.S Army Sergeant Randy Knox is sixteen, and already a seasoned veteran. He is an alien killing prodigy who has eradicated more of the invading Creepers than anyone can keep track of. But Randy is also a high school student struggling with geometry. And he is a young man whose heart is being pulled in two directions by two very different girls. One, Abby Monroe, a straightforward warrior. The other, Serena Coulson, dangerous and mysterious. Randy, with the help of Serena’s strange brother, alien interpreter Buddy Coulson, has convinced a Creeper base to surrender. After a decade of conflict, misery, and the death of millions of humans, it finally seems that the war may come to an end. But then the surrender effort turns into a bloody ambush. More disturbing, Buddy and Serena Coulson arrive, having escaped torture and interrogation at the hands of a C.I.A. operative. It begins to dawn on Randy that, as much as he doesn’t want to believe it, the powers-that-be may not want the war to be over. In Portsmouth, N.H., Sam Miller is a cop supporting a family and trying to stay on the right side of his boss, the law, and his conscience. Then a murder victim is found by the railroad tracks, a number tattooed on the victim''s wrist, something never seen before by the police. It''s a case Sam could walk away from. It''s a case he will be ordered to drop. And it is case that leads him into a lethal vortex of politics, espionage, rebellion, and international intrigue. As war rages in Europe, a new fascist power rises in America, overseen by President Long and his allies. And the people Sam thinks he knows best-his wife, his brother, his colleagues-reveal new identities. In a formerly close-knit city by the sea, where no one is above suspicion and no one is safe, a global summit is about to take place between President Long and Chancellor Adolf Hitler. On that day, history will be changed. And millions of people will live or die, all because Sam Miller has been a very good cop-faced with a very bad choice. PRAISE FOR AMERIKAN EAGLE "Rich in history an filled with breathtakingly true characters and nonstop plotting." --- Jeffery Deaver, New York Times bestselling author
