Bill Nye's Great Big World of Science
With photos, experiments, and more, this “appealing and highly informative” science book from the beloved TV host is “a winner” (School Library Journal). Science educator, TV host, and New York Times–bestselling author Bill Nye is on a mission to help young people understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. Featuring a range of subjects—physics, chemistry, geology, biology, astronomy, global warming, and more—this profusely illustrated book covers the basic principles of each science, key discoveries, recent revolutionary advances, and the problems that science still needs to solve for our Earth. Nye and coauthor Gregory Mone present the most difficult theories and facts in an easy-to-comprehend, humorous way. They interviewed numerous specialists from around the world, in each of the fields discussed, whose insights are included throughout. Also included are experiments kids can do themselves to bring science to life! “Wordplay and wry wit put extra fun into a trove of fundamental knowledge.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Includes photographs, illustrations, diagrams, glossary, bibliography, and index

Unstoppable

release date: Nov 10, 2015
Unstoppable
“Climate change is coming. What can we do about it? TV’s ‘Science Guy’ has some answers. . . . An important message delivered in a winning manner.” —Kirkus Reviews Just as World War II called an earlier generation to greatness, so the climate crisis is calling today’s rising youth to action: to create a better future. In Unstoppable, Bill Nye expands the message for which he is best known and beloved. That message is that with a combination of optimism and scientific curiosity, obstacles become opportunities, and the possibilities of our world become limitless. With a scientist’s thirst for knowledge and an engineer’s vision of what can be, Bill Nye sees today’s environmental issues not as insurmountable problems but as chances for our society to rise to the challenge and create a cleaner, healthier, smarter world. We need not accept that transportation consumes half our energy, and that two-thirds of the energy you put into your car is immediately thrown away out the tailpipe. We need not accept that dangerous emissions are the price we must pay for a vibrant economy and a comfortable life. Above all, we need not accept that we will leave our children a planet that is dirty, overheated, and depleted of resources. As Bill shares his vision, he debunks some of the most persistent myths and misunderstandings about global warming. When you are done reading, you’ll be enlightened and empowered. Chances are, you’ll be smiling, too, ready to join Bill and change the world.

Everything All at Once

release date: Nov 20, 2018
Everything All at Once
In the New York Times bestseller Everything All at Once, Bill Nye shows you how thinking like a nerd is the key to changing yourself and the world around you. Everyone has an inner nerd just waiting to be awakened by the right passion. In Everything All at Once, Bill Nye will help you find yours. With his call to arms, he wants you to examine every detail of the most difficult problems that look unsolvable—that is, until you find the solution. Bill shows you how to develop critical thinking skills and create change, using his “everything all at once” approach that leaves no stone unturned. Whether addressing climate change, the future of our society as a whole, or personal success, or stripping away the mystery of fire walking, there are certain strategies that get results: looking at the world with relentless curiosity, being driven by a desire for a better future, and being willing to take the actions needed to make change happen. He shares how he came to create this approach—starting with his Boy Scout training (it turns out that a practical understanding of science and engineering is immensely helpful in a capsizing canoe) and moving through the lessons he learned as a full-time engineer at Boeing, a stand-up comedian, CEO of The Planetary Society, and, of course, as Bill Nye The Science Guy. This is the story of how Bill Nye became Bill Nye and how he became a champion of change and an advocate of science. It’s how he became The Science Guy. Bill teaches us that we have the power to make real change. Join him in... dare we say it... changing the world.

Bill Nye's Western Humor

Bill Nye's Western Humor
Although Bill Nye (1850-1896) was America''s best known humorist in the late 1880''s and early 1890''s, his work is little known today--his books long out of print and his columns yellowing in newspaper files. Now T. A. Larson, a dyed-in-the-wool Nye fan for more than thirty years, has assembled the best of Bill Nye''s work, most of it dating from the seven Wyoming years when Nye made his name. The selections are chosen from Laramie, Cheyenne, and Denver newspapers and from six books published in the 1890''s. The resulting collection is both good fun and a valuable picture of a lively period.

The Nellis cabin or ranch issituated in the center of the district.I presided over the meeting to give it an air of terror and gloom. It was very impressive. There was hardly a dry eye in the house as I was led to the chair by two old miners. I seatedmyself behind the flour barrel, and pounding on the head of the barrel with a pick handle, Icalled the august assemblage to order.Snuffing the candle with my fingers in a graceful and pleasing style, and wiping the blackoff on my pants, I said: \"Gentlemen of the Convention: In your selection of a chairman Idetect at once your mental acumen and intelligent foresight. While you feel confident that, in the rose-colored future, prosperity is in store for you, you still remember that now youlook to capital for the immediate development of your district.\"I am free to state that, although I have been but a few hours in your locality, I am highlygratified with your appearance, and I cheerfully assure you that the coffers which Icommand are at your disposal. In me you behold a capitalist who proposes to develop thecountry, regardless of expense.\"I also recognize your good sense in selecting an old miner and mineral expert to presideover your meeting. Although it may require something of a mental strain for your chairmanto detect the difference between porphyry and perdition, yet in the actual practicalworkings of a mining camp he feels that he is equal to any emergency.\"After the band plays something soothing and the chaplain has drawn up a short petitionto the throne of grace, I shall be glad to know the pleasure of the meeting.\"Round after round of applause greeted this little gem of oratory. A small boy gathered upthe bouquets and filed them with the secretary, when the meeting proceeded with its work. Most of the delegates came instructed, and therefore the business was soon transacted
