Service Dog Skills Faster

release date: Aug 29, 2024
Service Dog Skills Faster
This book and method are about showing a dog a concept, starting with the first step, which we call the base step. Showing the dog what tools nature gave it--teeth, nose, paws, and their smell--is the first step. Then show the dog the little steps leading to the task. Going up and down, the idea steps like concept spiraling, using the number three for the smallest number you can remember, like chunking, and using tools to insert to help the dog learn better, like scaffolding tools. Using it all like a foraging puzzle, they can figure out the task for themselves. The best thing is that even though this is a tough method for the trainer to learn, it's the easiest and fastest for the dog. When done correctly, a smart dog can learn a skill in ten minutes, something that can take many months with conditioning. Even a dumb dog that wants to work can almost always learn in three sessions, maybe lasting up to an hour each. The dog is not burnt out and does longer sessions often when it's working for itself, solving a puzzle. What we hope to accomplish with the sharing of this method is to shorten the time it takes to train a service dog and the time it takes for people with disabilities to get one.

He knew where all the horses should be at all times. He was the big brother of all the horses. He knew as soon as I pulled up in my car to the barn, he would come galloping to the fence and give me a huge neigh. I decided to write a book about this gentle giant to give children a view of how horses can be best friends with their owners and riders.

Houses for a New World

release date: Jul 12, 2022
Houses for a New World
The fascinating history of the twentieth century's most successful experiment in mass housing While the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and their contemporaries frequently influences our ideas about house design at the midcentury, most Americans during this period lived in homes built by little-known builders who also served as developers of the communities. Often dismissed as "little boxes, made of ticky-tacky," the tract houses of America's postwar suburbs represent the twentieth century’s most successful experiment in mass housing. Houses for a New World is the first comprehensive history of this uniquely American form of domestic architecture and urbanism. Between 1945 and 1965, more than thirteen million houses—most of them in new ranch and split-level styles—were constructed on large expanses of land outside city centers, providing homes for the country’s rapidly expanding population. Focusing on twelve developments in the suburbs of Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles, Barbara Miller Lane tells the story of the collaborations between builders and buyers, showing how both wanted houses and communities that espoused a modern way of life—informal, democratic, multiethnic, and devoted to improving the lives of their children. The resulting houses differed dramatically from both the European International Style and older forms of American domestic architecture. Based on a decade of original research, and accompanied by hundreds of historical images, plans, and maps, this book presents an entirely new interpretation of the American suburb. The result is a fascinating history of houses and developments that continue to shape how tens of millions of Americans live. Featured housing developments in Houses for a New World: Boston area: Governor Francis Farms (Warwick, RI) Wethersfield (Natick, MA) Brookfield (Brockton, MA) Chicago area: Greenview Estates (Arlington Heights, IL) Elk Grove Village Rolling Meadows Weathersfield at Schaumburg Los Angeles and Orange County area: Cinderella Homes (Anaheim, CA) Panorama City (Los Angeles) Rossmoor (Los Alamitos, CA) Philadelphia area: Lawrence Park (Broomall, PA) Rose Tree Woods (Broomall, PA)

Decrees and Dangerous Prayers

release date: May 31, 2022
Decrees and Dangerous Prayers
It is fine to pray prayers of petition, but we can decree from our position in heavenly places with Jesus Christ and command barriers to come down, doors to open and situations to change. We can shift atmospheres. We can change the history of nations. Of course, we are using delegated power and authority from God so we need to spend time with Him, hear His heart and mind, and decree from the Father''s heart, not our vain imaginations.International speaker and author Pastor Barbara Miller, an ordained prophet with decades of ministry experience, has given us a how-to manual on writing decrees from her vast experience. You can follow these 7 steps too. Her book gives many examples of how she has used decrees herself. Also, if you are a believer who is happy to stick with the status quo and play safe, you might find these decrees are too dangerous for you. If you''re okay with staying on the sidelines and don''t want to get involved, even from your prayer room, then this book isn''t for you. You''ll be challenged but also inspired to be God''s agent and give voice to His heart for your nation or community. Decrees and Dangerous Prayers will give you the motivation and steps you need to:?Pray and make daring decrees that can change the spiritual atmosphere?Make dangerous decrees and prayers that transform your city or nation ?Have your faith increased as you see the results and feel empowered

Southern Highland Craft Guild
The Southern Highland Craft Guild is the oldest craft guild in the United States and the only guild to be defined by a geographical area. First conceived by Olive Dame Campbell in the 1920s, the craft guild was launched in 1930 with an exhibition of regional arts. Frances Louisa Goodrich contributed her Allanstand Shop so that families living in an already depressed region would have a sales venue for their work throughout the Great Depression and the years of World War II. From that early start, the Southern Highland Craft Guild has grown to nearly a thousand members and has established a worldwide reputation for fine workmanship. The guild is governed by the artist membership, which is made up of a wide range of craftspeople from institute-trained artists to local makers trained by parents and friends.

If I Survive

release date: Jan 01, 2019
If I Survive
"This is a true story of Holocaust survival. The story of Nazi Germany and the Jews is a story of anti-Semitism, gas chambers, genocide and World War 11. The Warsaw ghetto where the Nazis had imprisoned the Jews was being emptied as Adolph Hitler''s Final Solution to murder all of European Jewry was put into action. Lena kept thinking, "It''s my turn next." As some Jews escaped Treblinka and exposed it as being a death camp not a labour camp, young men and women in the ghetto decided to make a stand. Lena helped in the resistance which became the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising by gathering light bulbs from empty houses which could be used for Molotov cocktails. By a miracle, she escaped the ghetto before it became an inferno. But where could she hide? After 18 months in hiding, she found herself tossed out on the streets of war-torn Warsaw. The Poles had risen up against the Germans who crushed the resistance and levelled the city. Where could Lena hide? How did she maintain the will to survive? When it was over and she could walk free, the tears she had held back flooded out because she was all alone and there was no one to care that she had survived and no one to go to. How to rebuild from all the destruction? Author Barbara Miller adds to Holocaust history by skilfully weaving her research with Lena''s diary and interviews to bring her biography to life. Lena helped her companions in hiding to survive with her humour and compassion. She is 100 in January 2019 and her miraculous story of survival against the odds will inspire you to not give up no matter how dark the time or difficult the situation or cruel the people around you."--Publisher''s website.

The Dying Days Of Segregation In Australia

release date: Aug 31, 2017
The Dying Days Of Segregation In Australia
While this book is an up-to-date account of the situation in Australia generally and particularly in Yarrabah, an Aboriginal community near Cairns, Queensland, most of the research was done in 1984. This was an incredibly significant time when nearly 100 years of legal oppression and segregation of Indigenous people in Queensland came to an end. What began in 1897 as legislation to ostensibly protect Indigenous people from white society, including outright slaughter, ended up as the Queensland Aborigines Act which put them on reserves with a permit system like apartheid South Africa? Read real life stories about segregation, self-management, land rights and human rights.

Taking Root in an Honored People

release date: Jul 04, 2015
Taking Root in an Honored People
As a young child, Barbara Miller found herself intrigued by the stories she heard each week in Sunday school. As an adult, Miller ventured beyond the Protestant denominations of her youth to find the sense of spirituality she craved within Roman Catholicism. It wasn't until she began to explore Reform Judaism, however, that she found a life sustaining blend of study, ritual, and prayer that embodied her understanding of the purpose of life. Taking Root in an Honored People chronicles Miller's conversion to Reform Judaism and her efforts to create her own identity as a Jew without the benefit of family tradition or heritage to draw upon. Each chapter focuses on a particular aspect of Miller's search, and on the ways that her conversion called her to a new orientation-a process of building upon her past instead of denying it. Using biblical texts to illustrate her journey and provide parallel narratives, Miller explores many facets of the convert's experience, including what it means to be a woman within Judaism, the individual and communal significance of the holidays, the importance of social justice, and coming to terms with the Holocaust.

Nazi Ideology before 1933

release date: Nov 06, 2014
Nazi Ideology before 1933
This collection of early writings by leading Nazi intellectuals sheds light on the evolution of Nazi political thought as the party came to power. Barbara Miller Lane and Leila J. Rupp bring together a crucial yet hitherto inaccessible body of material that thoroughly chronicles Nazi ideology before 1933. It includes the extensive writings and programs published by Dietrich Eckart, Alfred Rosenberg, Gottfried Feder, Joseph Goebbels, Gregor and Otto Strasser, Heinrich Himmler, and Richard Walther Darré. Hitler’s role in the development of Nazi ideology, interpreted here as a very permissive one, is thoroughly assessed. In commentary by the editors, the significance of each Nazi theorist is evaluated at each stage of the history of the party. Lane and Rupp conclude that early Nazi ideology was not a consistent whole but a doctrine in the process of rapid development to which new ideas were continually introduced. By the time the Nazis came to power, however, a group of interrelated assertions and official promises had been made to party followers and to the public. Hitler and the Third Reich had to accommodate this ideology, even when not implementing it. Each selection is accompanied by an introductory note and annotations which clarify its relationship to other works of the author and other writings of the period. Also included are original translations of the “Twenty-Five Points” and a number of little-known official party statements.

Frances L. Goodrich's Brown Book of Weaving Drafts

release date: Feb 28, 2014
Frances L. Goodrich's Brown Book of Weaving Drafts
A collection of traditional eighteenth and nineteenth century weaving drafts, written sequences of the threading order on the loom used to create specific patterns. They are presented here in their original form as gathered by Frances L. Goodrich and illustrated in over 160 color photos. This volume also contains over 200 valuable modern translations of the same drafts for use by today's weavers. In 1890, Frances L. Goodrich came to the southern mountains in North Carolina from a life of culture to live and work among people who had little opportunity for education or social enrichment. Through her work for the Presbyterian Home Mission Board, she grew to love and respect these neighbors who worked so hard and had so little. She established schools, a small hospital, and the Allanstand Cottage Industries. As she traveled the mountain roads and trails on horseback, Miss Goodrich collected these precious weaving drafts from the women who wove for Allanstand Cottage Industries. In your hands is the heart of that collection.
