Damned If You Do
Seven years ago, Cordelia Scott''s abusive father left without a word, and life has been normal ever since. The seventeen-year-old spends her days stage managing the school play (which is going great, if anyone asks), pining over her best friend, Veronica, and failing one too many pop quizzes. She''s never been sad that her father left, but she knows something is... missing. When her school guidance counselor, Fred, reveals during a session that he''s actually a demon, she learns that something is indeed missing: a piece of her actual soul. Why? She unwittingly made a deal with him to make her father disappear -- then bargained to have the memory erased. To make matters worse, Fred is here to make another bargain: Help him with a "little" demonic problem, or she''s doomed to spend eternity in Hell with her father. The deal? Help Fred neutralize a rival demon, who means to do more harm in her hometown than your average demon deal.

Lust for Leaf
Isa Moskowitz''s Vegan With a Vengeance and Sarah Kramer''s How It All Vegan! showed the world that plant-based cookbooks don''t have to be full of sanctimonious text and wilted sprouts recipes. But why should vegans have all the fun? Food-blogging duo Alex Brown and Evan George--better known as Hot Knives--have shown their 60,000 monthly readers that vegetarians are "cheeky [and] over-the-top" too and "don''t much care for established notions of propriety" (LA Weekly). This is the only cookbook you''ll find with chapters called "Bro-tein" and "BBQ Mosh Pit," or filled with recipes for DIY Wieners and Patties, Sauce-y Explosions, Salsas that Hurt, Deep Sea Mushrooms, and Nachos that Cook Themselves. And don''t forget dessert: try Hand-Cranked Cream Dreams and Booze You Can Eat. Hot Knives bring you vegetarianism with a new set of rules: "Enjoy your food, but party harder. Eat everything with your hands. Drink booze and fruit, not water. Make all of your junk food yourself. Cook at least half of everything you eat on an open fire. Switch to uppers, if possible." The House Where Death Lives

release date: Aug 06, 2024
The House Where Death Lives
A dance to the death. A girl who’s just as monstrous as H.H. Holmes. A hallway that’s constantly changing—and hungry. All of these stories exist in the same place—within the frame of a particular house that isn’t bound by the laws of time and space. Following in the footsteps of dark/horror-filled YA anthologies like His Hideous Heart and Slasher Girls and Monster Boys, and Netflix’s ground-breaking adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House, this YA speculative fiction anthology explores how the permanence of a home can become a space of transition and change for both the inhabitants and the creatures who haunt them. Each story in the anthology will focus on a different room in the house and feature unique takes on monsters from a wide array of cultural traditions. Whether it’s a demonic Trickster, a water-loving Rusalka, or a horrifying, baby-imitating Tiyanak, there’s bound to be something sinister lurking in the shadows.

The Gathering Dark

release date: Sep 06, 2022
The Gathering Dark
A cemetery full of the restless dead. A town so wicked it has already burned twice, with the breath of the third fire looming. A rural, isolated bridge with a terrifying monster waiting for the completion of its summoning ritual. A lake that allows the drowned to return, though they have been changed by the claws of death. These are the shadowed, liminal spaces where the curses and monsters lurk, refusing to be forgotten. Hauntings, and a variety of horrifying secrets, lurk in the places we once called home. Written by New York Times bestselling, and other critically acclaimed, authors these stories shed a harsh light on the scariest tales we grew up with.

Hate Speech Law

release date: Mar 05, 2015
Hate Speech Law
Hate speech law can be found throughout the world. But it is also the subject of numerous principled arguments, both for and against. These principles invoke a host of morally relevant features (e.g., liberty, health, autonomy, security, non-subordination, the absence of oppression, human dignity, the discovery of truth, the acquisition of knowledge, self-realization, human excellence, civic dignity, cultural diversity and choice, recognition of cultural identity, intercultural dialogue, participation in democratic self-government, being subject only to legitimate rule) and practical considerations (e.g., efficacy, the least restrictive alternative, chilling effects). The book develops and then critically examines these various principled arguments. It also attempts to de-homogenize hate speech law into different clusters of laws/regulations/codes that constrain uses of hate speech, so as to facilitate a more nuanced examination of the principled arguments. Finally, it argues that it is morally fitting for judicial and legislative judgments about the overall warrant of hate speech law to reflect principled compromise. Principled compromise is characterized not merely by compromise over matters of principled concern but also by compromise which is itself governed by ideals of moral duty or civic virtue (e.g., reciprocity, equality, and mutual respect). Summary

release date: Sep 10, 2017
Summary
Many years ago, men employed brute strength and violence to achieve power. The most powerful men were those who had huge armies of soldiers. These men were not at all subtle - they were barbaric and they showed no mercy to their enemies. Thousands of years ago, power was concentrated within a few hard-hearted and ruthless men. This system repressed many people, most especially women. Years ago, women were viewed as the weaker sex. They could not compete with men because they lacked physical strength. They also did not have weapons that could make a man bow to them. But, men had one weakness - the strong desire for sex. A woman could toy with this weakness. But, once the sex was over, the man was back in control. If she refused to have sex with a man - he used force or simply engaged in an affair with another woman. Women knew that their power was temporary, so they invented a way to create a more effective and lasting form of power through an art called seduction. This art was used by the most powerful women in during the ancient times - Helen of Troy, His Shi, and the greatest seductress of all time, Cleopatra. These women would draw men using their alluring and seductive appearance. They would wear jewelry that made them look like a goddess. They would wear clothes that showed only a small amount of flesh, stimulating a man''s imagination. These techniques increased a man''s desire not just for lovemaking, but also for something greater - a chance to win the heart of a fantasy figure...Read more....
