The Geology and Geochemistry of the Golden Chest Gold Deposit, Murray, Idaho

release date: Jan 01, 2019
The Geology and Geochemistry of the Golden Chest Gold Deposit, Murray, Idaho
The Golden Chest Au-W Mine has been intermittently mined since the 1880''s. Mineralized quartz veins have been deposited into the Upper Prichard Formation of the Proterozoic Belt Supergroup. The Golden Chest is located in the Summit Mining District within the Murray Gold Belt region of the greater Coeur d''Alene (CdA) Mining District. A modern geochemical study of the Golden Chest has never been conducted at the Golden Chest. This thesis investigates, with the collaboration of New Jersey Mining Company (NJMC), the paragenesis of ore forming minerals, the mineralogy of the deposit and the genesis of the ore forming processes. A discussion of lead isotope data compiled from literature and from NJMC records is also provided in this thesis. Ore compositions were identified using SEM-EDS and reflected and transmitted light microscopy at Montana Tech. Sulfur isotope analyses of pyrite, galena and sphalerite were performed at the University of Nevada-Reno, whereas oxygen isotope analysis of quartz and scheelite separates were performed at the University of Oregon.Analyses of 35 gold/electrum grains gave an average of 78 ℗ł 22 wt% Au. Gold grains were found in quartz vein material with pyrite, galena, arsenopyrite and low iron sphalerite (0.81 ℗ł 0.42 wt% Fe) in most samples. Pyrite is the earliest deposited sulfide and a strong correlation was found between gold and galena. Gangue mineralogy is dominated by milky quartz with lesser amounts of potassium feldspar and carbonates such as calcite, ankerite and ferroan dolomite. Several monzonite to lamprophyre dikes that previous workers have associated with mineralization were examined via SEM and showed widespread alteration of primary minerals. No gold and only minor sulfides were found associated with these intrusions. Hydrothermal alteration of the Prichard Fm. next to quartz veins tended to be weak, with chloritic, sericitic and silicic alteration assemblages.A study of fluid inclusions in mineralized quartz and scheelite veins produced an average homogenization temperature of 195 ℗ł 45 ℗ʻC. Low salinities of 0.3 ℗ł 0.26 wt% NaCl were estimated. Stable isotopes of Îþ18O and Îþ34S provided independent geothermometry estimates for isotopic fractionation of quartz-scheelite and pyrite-galena respectively. The result of the analysis yielded average temperature estimates of 332 ℗ʻC for quartz-scheelite and 324 ℗ʻC for pyrite-galena. Combining the fluid inclusion and stable isotope data results in an estimated pressure range of 1.1 to 3.5 kbars and a depth range (assuming lithostatic conditions) of 3.8 to 12.2 km. This range in P-T conditions is consistent with vein formation in an orogenic gold system near the brittle-ductile transition zone.Stable-isotope studies gave similar results to previous work on veins of the Couer d''Alene mining district. Îþ18O values range from 11.6 to 14.70́ʻ for quartz and +6.0 to +7.00́ʻ for scheelite. These minerals formed from a vein-forming fluid (+7.5 ℗ł 1.20́ʻ) with either a magmatic or metamorphic origin that underwent extensive fluid-rock interaction. Analyses of Îþ34S isotopes produced results (0́30.1 to 6.70́ʻ) that cannot be used to distinguish between a sedimentary or magmatic origin of sulfur. Lead isotopes from the Golden Chest are consistent with deposition of "young" lead that is also found in the Cretaceous-Tertiary Bitterroot Lobe of the Idaho Batholith (480́366 Ma) and the nearby Gem Stocks (1100́3118 Ma). Golden Chest lead isotopes are dissimilar to "old" (Precambrian) lead found in the Ag-Pb-Zn deposits of C.

Summary

release date: Sep 10, 2017
Summary
Many years ago, men employed brute strength and violence to achieve power. The most powerful men were those who had huge armies of soldiers. These men were not at all subtle - they were barbaric and they showed no mercy to their enemies. Thousands of years ago, power was concentrated within a few hard-hearted and ruthless men. This system repressed many people, most especially women. Years ago, women were viewed as the weaker sex. They could not compete with men because they lacked physical strength. They also did not have weapons that could make a man bow to them. But, men had one weakness - the strong desire for sex. A woman could toy with this weakness. But, once the sex was over, the man was back in control. If she refused to have sex with a man - he used force or simply engaged in an affair with another woman. Women knew that their power was temporary, so they invented a way to create a more effective and lasting form of power through an art called seduction. This art was used by the most powerful women in during the ancient times - Helen of Troy, His Shi, and the greatest seductress of all time, Cleopatra. These women would draw men using their alluring and seductive appearance. They would wear jewelry that made them look like a goddess. They would wear clothes that showed only a small amount of flesh, stimulating a man''s imagination. These techniques increased a man''s desire not just for lovemaking, but also for something greater - a chance to win the heart of a fantasy figure...Read more....

Evaluating Web Real Estate Via Pixel Efficiency Analysis

release date: Jan 01, 2016
Evaluating Web Real Estate Via Pixel Efficiency Analysis
This research presents a quantitative web analytics approach tailored for academic libraries. Specifically, we introduce pixel efficiency analysis, with the associated measures of pixel efficiency value and conversion efficiency value, as a web analytic approach for evaluating potential website changes. Pixel efficiency analysis is the practice of relating screen real estate measured in pixels to the achievement of organizational goals and key performance indicators as indicated by quantifiable user behavioral interactions on a webpage. We employ both the concept and measures through a case study focusing on high traffic webpages of an academic library website for a major research university. An overarching web analytics investigation in combination with pixel efficiency analysis of four of the librarys major webpages identifies the key areas of improvement in regards to real estate usage and provides quantifying numbers to support the improvement. Based on these results, we investigate changes to each of the four pages utilizing A/B testing of tens of thousands of library patrons and the measurements of pixel efficiency value and conversion efficiency value to examine the effect on user behaviour, demonstrating the value of pixel efficiency analysis. Our research findings show the capability of pixel efficiency analysis to provide insight not delivered by existing web analytics approaches for academic libraries. Namely, we emphasize the importance of page real estate by showing that components of a webpage can be optimized and that users overall prefer the optimized web layouts. Real estate usage is expected to be increasingly important given the trend towards mobile, and it is an increasingly important consideration within web analytics and design. While specifically tailored to academic libraries, pixel efficiency analysis has applications to all websites and has significant potential for future research.

Hate Speech Law

release date: Mar 05, 2015
Hate Speech Law
Hate speech law can be found throughout the world. But it is also the subject of numerous principled arguments, both for and against. These principles invoke a host of morally relevant features (e.g., liberty, health, autonomy, security, non-subordination, the absence of oppression, human dignity, the discovery of truth, the acquisition of knowledge, self-realization, human excellence, civic dignity, cultural diversity and choice, recognition of cultural identity, intercultural dialogue, participation in democratic self-government, being subject only to legitimate rule) and practical considerations (e.g., efficacy, the least restrictive alternative, chilling effects). The book develops and then critically examines these various principled arguments. It also attempts to de-homogenize hate speech law into different clusters of laws/regulations/codes that constrain uses of hate speech, so as to facilitate a more nuanced examination of the principled arguments. Finally, it argues that it is morally fitting for judicial and legislative judgments about the overall warrant of hate speech law to reflect principled compromise. Principled compromise is characterized not merely by compromise over matters of principled concern but also by compromise which is itself governed by ideals of moral duty or civic virtue (e.g., reciprocity, equality, and mutual respect). Aqueous Complexation of Citric Acid and DTPA with Selected Trivalent and Tetravalent F-elements

release date: Jan 01, 2013
Aqueous Complexation of Citric Acid and DTPA with Selected Trivalent and Tetravalent F-elements
Carboxylic acids have played an important role in the field of actinide (An) and lanthanide (Ln) separations and the reprocessing of irradiated nuclear fuel. Recent bench-scale experiments have demonstrated that 3-carboxy-3-hydroxypentanedioic acid (citric acid) is a promising aqueous complexant that can effectively aid in the separation of transition metals from f-element mixtures. Furthermore, citric acid was found to be a suitable buffer for the nitrogen donating ligand diethylenetriamine-N, N, N'', N'''', N''''-pentaacetic acid (DTPA) which has a higher complexation affinity for An over Ln. The complexation of Ln and An with anions of citric acid and DTPA have been previously studied with conflicting results regarding the coordination of metal ions between carboxylic groups, the feasibility of protonated metal complexes, and the formation constants themselves. Using potentiometry, spectrophotometry, microcalorimetry, and specific ion interaction modeling, we investigated metal complexes of citric acid and DTPA with selected trivalent and tetravalent Ln and An ions. The complexes were investigated with respects to stability constants, thermodynamics of complexation, oxidation states, the concentration of electrolyte, ligand size, thermodynamics of complexation, oxidation states, the concentration of electrolyte, ligand size, and metal ionic radius.
