Fingerstyle Technic

release date: Feb 13, 2013
Fingerstyle Technic
Fingerstyle Technic is a collection of 34 original compositions designed toenhance important elements of fingerpicking guitar technique. I have always feltthat as important as scale and technique drills are, they can by themselves be very tedious to practice. In addition, technique has relevance only in the context of the entire musical composition it is intended to enhance. The compositions can be used merely as technical studies but they also may be used as short concert or recital pieces. Several of them may be grouped to present a kind of suite. I hope you enjoy playing these solos. The guitar has so many moods and colors. Good technique enables the guitarist to bring out the breadth and subtlety of expression possible with this instrument. I have tried to present a variety of moods, rhythms and textures in these compositions and have presented a workable assortment of keys, both major and minor. In Notation and Tablature

Student Guitar Etudes Volume 1

release date: Dec 21, 2012
Student Guitar Etudes Volume 1
The twenty classic guitar etudes in this book are melodic and guitaristic. I composed them in guitar friendly keys. They were written to be fun to play and also to provide short pieces ideal for recitals or concert preludes and encores. The pieces should be played with freedom and expression. They are intermediate in difficulty and will present a diverse array of moods and textures for the guitarist

Technic Etudes

release date: Dec 14, 2012
Technic Etudes
The goal of these twenty etudes is to address various issues of guitar techniquewhile presenting pieces that have melodic content, are interesting and fun to play and which can be used in concert or recital. Fragmented scale runs, scales ascending and descending several octaves, switching positions amidst musical phrases, arpeggio picking, string skipping and combining open and fingered strings are some of the issues addressed in these compositions

Velocity Studies

release date: Nov 27, 2012
Velocity Studies
These twenty-one studies present a variety of melodic themes composed to provide enhancement of technique. I wanted to write short, playable pieces designed to build fluency and coordination between the left and right hand. I also wanted these technical studies to contain melodic elements sufficient to allow them to be used as short pieces in concert or recital. As valuable as scalepractice can be, it can also be tedious. I wanted these studies to be fun to play. I also utilized a variety of major and minor keys and composed the pieces specifically to explore the contrast between open and fingered strings. Finally, these studies will help enable the guitarist to move freely between variouspositions on the fingerboard. In Notation and Tablature

Acoustic Guitar Portraits: Duets for Two Acoustic Guitars

release date: Oct 09, 2012
Acoustic Guitar Portraits: Duets for Two Acoustic Guitars
Acoustic Guitar Portraits is a collection of scores from my recording of the same name. The music reflects a rich variety of musical styles and is original. Therhythms are contemporary and the harmonies are lush. The duos feature an intricate dialog between the two acoustic guitars. It has been my goal to present performance or concert material for the plectrum (flatpick) guitar. These compositions were written with that in mind

Guitar Images

release date: Mar 02, 2012
Guitar Images
The solos in this collection present a myriad of moods on the guitar. They were written to be very expressive, contemplative pieces which could be performed in a variety of secular and sacred settings. Most of them are from three solo collections previously released, entitled Guitar Meditations (MB22029), Guitar Airs and Ballads (MB22039) and Timeless Solos for Guitar (MB22041). Some of the pieces were scored for 7-string guitar; however, they can also be performed on 6-string guitar—indicated are the alternate 6-string pedal tones in the tablature part. Many of the solos use a cross-picking technique alternating higher position closed strings and open strings, resulting in a "harp-like" effect. the included tablature parts allow for a clear presentation of this effect and clarify where on the fingerboard these passages should be played. A number of the pieces are in Dropped D tuning, highlighting the rich resonance that tuning gives the instrument. All of these solos may be performed by the classical or fingerstyle guitarist or, as originally performed, with a pick. Explore the diverse moods presented in this collection and make full use of the many avenues of expression offered in these pieces! A companion dual CD is available with all 25 solos included. Guitar Meditations - Contemplative Solos

release date: Mar 02, 2012
Guitar Meditations - Contemplative Solos
Influenced by a wide range of musical styles, these concert pieces are meant to be played with a pick, although they certainly can be performed by a fingerstyle guitarist. the intent is not to showcase sparkling technique, instead they were composed to convey a palate of musical colors and moods. They offer the guitarist a wonderful opportunity for expression. Many are impressionistic in character. Some are musical reflections of thoughts, moods and emotions. Some were scored for a 7-string guitar, with the 7th string either tuned to low A or low B. However, all may be successfully performed on a 6-string guitar. Written in notation and tablature. Free audio downloads are available for use with this title.

Guitar Airs & Ballads

release date: Mar 02, 2012
Guitar Airs & Ballads
Here are nine solos for plectrum guitar written with the tradition of the Celtic ballad and Scottish Aire. Many of the solos call for a 7 string guitar but can certainly be played on a 6 string. I have shown alternate notes for the low 7 string pedal tones in the tablature. The solos give the guitarist an opportunity to play concert settings with a maximum of expression. I have recorded all of the solos and they are available as a free internet download. This book is a sequel to my solo collection entitled Guitar Meditations (MB22029). I have authored both solo collections to address the need for serious compositions for the plectrum guitarist wanting to play in concert or recital. the music in each collection draws from a wide variety of influences and utilizes many contemporary harmonic concepts. I hope you enjoy performing and listening to these solos.

Timeless Solos for Guitar

release date: Mar 02, 2012
Timeless Solos for Guitar
Timeless Solos is a play on words. the solos in this volume contain no time signatures or bar lines. I did this because I wanted the solos to be very expressive in interpretation yet free-form in structure. the companion recording presents my interpretation of these works. You may interpret them differently and that is fine! All solos are in notation and tablature. When writing these solos I first envisioned the form as an extended cadenza. However, from my earlier trumpet playing days I recalled that, especially in the 19th century, a cadenza was a momentary break in a solo which gave the performer a chance to dazzle the audience with his or her virtuosity. These solos are not about that. Rather, they are a vehicle to give the guitarist an opportunity to move the listener with the performer''s expressive ability. I also thought of these solos in the form of a chant. However, most chants are monophonic in form and these solos in various parts present a fairly lush harmonic structure. While the solos were written for a 7 string guitar, they may be played successfully on a 6 string guitar. Alternate notes for those found on the 7th string are shown in the tablature part. Also, the solo, Peace, is written in Dropped D tuning and makes little use of the 7th string pedal tones. the solos are contemplative in nature and provide ample opportunity for individual expression and interpretation. I hope you enjoy playing and performing these works.
