Donors Are People Too

release date: Apr 10, 2020
Donors Are People Too
It''s very clear: Nonprofit organizations need major donors. In his nearly four decades of helping nonprofit organizations raise funds to accomplish their missions, author, Timothy Smith witnessed a clear pattern. The vast majority of donors giving to organizations participate through "mass media," meaning the mail, the telephone, or the Internet. No charity in the world has enough staff members to sit down with every donor personally and form a personal relationship. But over time, we see certain donors emerge as major players. They give more than the average individual, signaling their higher level of interest in the cause, and signaling their interest in a closer relationship with the nonprofit organization. How should the organization respond to these major donors? Timothy Smith has the answers to this question and many others. He has shown us that a healthy nonprofit organization will invest itself in all of its donors to the full extent of the organization''s capacity. With unlimited resources, the organization could treat every donor like a major donor. But with limited resources, the organization must invest in each donor according to the donor''s expressed level of interest in the mission of the organization. This is simply good, practical management. In the pages of Donors Are People Too, Timothy offers wise and proven insights into the care and keeping of major donors. He did not spring from the earth fully formed; he has learned a lot "the hard way." One of his best qualities is his willingness to confront his own failures and learn from them, to reveal his experiences and share wisdom through them. His candor is refreshing, and his insights are valuable.

The Pandemic

release date: Mar 08, 2023
The Pandemic
Covid19 brought the world to its knees. As one writer said, "Covid19 was not an interruption. It was a disruption." We were challenged to change in every way. The way we work, shop, travel, communicate, and worship. These new realities compelled Dr. Smith to read, study, and compile a series of inspirational and challenging messages from the Book of Hebrews. Specifically, chapter 11. The people are facing their own "disruptions" of their day. How will they handle them? What will be the outcome? How can we learn from their example? As the writer encourages them to maintain their wits about them and overcome the challenges, in The Pandemic: How My Faith Was Challenged, But Not Changed, Dr. Smith has eloquently developed several inspirational and challenging messages to encourage you. The book asks and addresses several daunting and penetrating questions: "How has the pandemic tested your faith?" During the pandemic, what have you learned about yourself and God?" and How has the pandemic prepared you for the future?" as well as others. Dr. Marvin Timothy Smith has served as Senior Pastor of the Mt. Olive Institutional Baptist Church of Saginaw, Michigan for nearly 25 years. Dr. Smith has degrees from: Southern University A & M College, Vanderbilt Divinity School, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Dr. Smith has lectured on the following topics: Parables, Homiletics, Hermeneutics, Creative Ways of Communicating the Bible, Leadership, and Christian Ethics, to name a few. Dr. Smith is married to the lovely Omie Anderson-Smith and they are the proud parents of three children: Marcelle, Marche'' and MaKenzie, one daughter in law, Jennifer and two grandsons-Josiah Timothy and Jabari Trevelle. Dr. Smith''s purpose is to relentlessly communicate the love of God, unselfishly share his gifts, and passionately inspire people to help others.

The Bible is filled with the accounts of men and women whom God assigned unto a mission as He did in the case of Adam. Some of them failed in the task while some others only did a part of their work and either transferred it to others or died without doing so. Others left their mission unattended to and God gave their works to another person, but several others came and they conquered as they finished their task and finished it so well. The truth is that there is none who have ever lived who did not have a feel of a mission that is God ordained, for God does not just create humans without a reason.

Escape from the Dark Side

release date: Oct 17, 2019
Escape from the Dark Side
This book is a Memoir, a detailed account of my life, growing up in one of Detroit''s most notorious areas - The Brewster Projects - in the ''60''s and ''70''s. The Brewster-Douglas Housing Projects were the largest residential housing project owned by the City of Detroit, located in the Brush Park section on the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan. The 1960''s and 1970''s were deemed the era of the beginning of Motown Records, original music flowing from the halls of Barry Gordy''s profound vision of creating musical geniuses and superstars. It was also the era when new types of drugs hit the hallowed streets of Detroit, and illegal sexual activities littered every corner in this area on the Eastside of Detroit. Life was fast! Life was hard! I literally raised myself, because it was like "Every man for himself" in my house. With a mentally unstable mother, the love I learned was not quite right. Relationships were based on my lack of understanding what real love was. Also, a less than loving grandmother made my life downright difficult. I was desparate. In and out of juvenile detention centers, in and out of prison, and ultimately having to reside at one rehabilitation center after another because of my drug addictions. It was evident that I''d end up like many of my constituents...in jail or rehab for life or dead. Thankfully, neither happened. I was released from my jail sentence and my stint in rehab. I''m here now to tell my story - Escape From The Dark Side...One Addicts Struggle.
