Therapy

release date: Apr 02, 2021
Therapy
This book was written during my personal healing process. I had held on to so many things for years, and it was causing me to suffer in my daily living. I never knew how serious it was until I began writing this and the wounds began to heal within me. I was living a life that looked so very successful on the outside. I was preaching and doing poetry and holding workshops and seeing others healed and delivered and I was still bound. After writing this, I could see so much more clearly. And I am a different individual because of the situations I verbally vomited onto paper. I am now thriving instead of surviving. And the process is ongoing. Be set free!

True Tales Of TWA Flight Attendants
If you liked Ann Hood''s Fly Girl and Julie Cook''s Come Fly The World: The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am, you''ll love True Tales of TWA Flight Attendants. The golden age of air travel promised a life of glamour and adventure for beautiful, single, young women interested in exploring the world-and no airline offered more glamour or excitement than Trans World Airlines. TWA provided an enviable jet-set lifestyle for flight attendants-and the opportunity to travel to exotic destinations like, London, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong and Bombay. Flight attendants appeared on TV and in movies, and rubbed elbows with the rich and famous, from Elizabeth Taylor and John F. Kennedy Jr., to presidents and Popes, all while decked out in designer uniforms from clothing designers like Oleg Cassini and Ralph Lauren. In the 1960s and 1970s, TWA accepted fewer than 1% of applicants to be flight attendants-making it tougher to get into than Harvard. Plus, a flying career offered the best education money could never buy. TWA flight attendants could cook chateaubriand medium rare, deliver a baby at 35,000 feet, and survive a plane crash-all the while immaculately dressed from their never-a-strand-out-of-place hairstyles, all the way down to their mandatory high heeled shoes. But the glamorous lifestyle of a TWA flight attendant sometimes came at a cost. True Tales of TWA Flight Attendants is a diary-style fly girl memoir with stories from hundreds of TWA flight attendants, and filled with a fascinating behind-the-scenes, never-before-seen look at the glamour, excitement, and struggles faced by young women as they traveled the world with TWA during this exciting time in airline history-from the golden age of air travel through the great stewardess rebellion and beyond. Click "buy now" to read the most fascinating, behind-the-curtain, fly girls'' book of the year! Perfect for flight attendant gifts too!

West Island

release date: Jan 01, 2019
West Island
Five notable twentieth-century New Zealanders who made their lives in Australia are the subject of this fascinating biographical investigation by award-winning author Stephanie Johnson. Roland Wakelin, Dulcie Deamer, Jean Devanny, Douglas Stewart and Eric Baume had little in common in personality, proclivities and politics. Yet they all experienced fame and/or notoriety in the West Island while being largely forgotten in their country of origin. They also occasionally crossed paths in the course of eventful lives. The works of painter Roland Wakelin place him as a founder of Australias Modern Movement, while his modest and affable personality was the opposite of the stereotypical artist. Dulcie Deamer was a writer and libertine known for her leopardskin attire and associations with the larger-than-life characters of the Sydney bohemian set including the Witch of Kings Cross, fellow New Zealander Rosaleen Norton. The forthright feminism and creative integrity of novelist Jean Devanny led to bitter battles with the same communist movement she devoted decades of her life to. Douglas Stewart was one of the most famous Australian writers of his period. He was a long- term gatekeeper for Australian letters as the literary editor of the Bulletin, and then editor for publishers Angus and Robertson. Born into an unusual and unorthodox Jewish family, Eric Baume gained prominence in Australia as an early prototype of the modern- day shock jock and at one stage one of the countrys highest-earning media personalities and bestselling authors. A lifelong gambling addict, he died in debt. Stephanie Johnson restores these striking New Zealanders to our national narrative, engaging their life stories to illuminate the curious lacuna that exists at the heart of the complex relationship between the two nations. As a writer with strong connections to both countries, Johnson draws on her own experiences of life on both sides of the ditch in her reflections on the trans-Tasman diaspora and the subtle differences and cultural divide that set apart the two countries.

Pediatric Dynamic Shoulder Stiffness Predicted from Quasi-static Impacts

release date: Jan 01, 2017
Pediatric Dynamic Shoulder Stiffness Predicted from Quasi-static Impacts
Motor vehicle safety is developed through the testing of anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs). The goal of ATD manufacturers is to ensure that these devices are as biofidelic as possible. Pediatric ATDs were originally created as scaled-down adults, although currently research has been implemented to update these models to be more realistic to mimic an actual pediatric response. Unlike with adults, pediatric cadavers cannot be used to verify the impact properties such as force, deflection, and stiffness. Thus, other methods must be used to predict a pediatric response during a collision. This study developed a transformation sequence to predict the oblique y-direction pediatric shoulder response based on data gathered from adult PMHS and adult and child volunteers. Based on this method, the estimated shoulder stiffness for a 6yo is 59 N/mm and for a 10yo is 106 N/mm.

Perceptions of Online Infidelity

Perceptions of Online Infidelity
This dissertation explored the phenomenon of Online Infidelity. Two hundred thirty seven heterosexual men and women completed an online survey about their experiences online and opinions of online behaviors as infidelity, possible precursors to seeking Online Infidelity, and about their response to vignettes presented about hypothetical Online Infidelity scenarios. The results of the study were compared to information available about Face to Face Infidelity. Reactions to and opinions about Online Infidelity were expected to mirror the research about Face to Face Infidelity. The results of this study indicated that while respondents did react similarly to sexual and combined Online Infidelity as predicted in the literature about FTFI. However, respondents did not respond to emotional Online Infidelity in a way that is similar to the research available about Face to Face Infidelity, indicating that a sexual component needs to be present to induce a strong reaction to Online Infidelity.

Shopping for Lower Sales Tax Rates

release date: Jan 01, 2017
Shopping for Lower Sales Tax Rates
Using comprehensive high-frequency state and local sales tax data, we show that household spending responds strongly to changes in sales tax rates. Even though sales taxes are not observed in posted prices and have a wide range of rates and exemptions, households adjust in many dimensions, stocking up on storable goods before taxes rise and increasing online and cross-border shopping. Interestingly, households adjust spending similarly for both taxable and tax-exempt goods. We embed an inventory problem into a continuous-time consumption-savings model and demonstrate that this seemingly irrational behavior is optimal in the presence of shopping trip fixed costs. The model successfully matches estimated short-run and long-run tax elasticities with a reasonable implied reservation wage of $7-10. We provide additional empirical evidence in favor of this new shopping-complementarity mechanism. While our results reject non-salience of sales tax changes, on average, we also show that upcoming tax changes that are more salient prompt larger responses.

Humor Me to Heaven

release date: Jan 01, 2015
Humor Me to Heaven
Humor is the topic of many psychological, social, and cultural studies, but this project examines humor under a new lens. Humor''s unique qualities explored in this study prove that humor is capable of more than just causing laughter; the nature of humor allows it to unveil truths about humanity, both spiritual and physical, through exposing man''s flaws. This quality is especially important to consider when analyzing humor in the context of literature, in which humor also works as an aesthetic element. This study searches several short stories by Eudora Welty and Flannery O''Connor along with Marilynne Robinson''s Gilead to reveal that each author implements in her works the element of humor in her own style, making humor an integral component in her fiction. Considering the unique qualities of humor and recognizing humor as an aesthetic element in the selected works show that these authors use humor as more than a mere literary element; their uses of humor, though they vary in form, work to convey significant themes of redemption throughout their stories. The term redemption defined in this thesis refers to a new and truthful perspective that humor creates for the characters, audience, or both. Since this new perspective ultimately points to spiritual truths about man''s nature, this discovery lends more credit to humor than other scholars have previously offered.

Direct and Indirect Human Contributions to Terrestrial Carbon Fluxes

Direct and Indirect Human Contributions to Terrestrial Carbon Fluxes
Human-induced climate change is an important environmental issue worldwide, as scientific studies increasingly demonstrate that human activities are changing the Earth''s climate. Even if dramatic reductions in emissions were made today, some human-induced changes are likely to persist beyond the 21st century. The Kyoto Protocol calls for emissions reporting that separates out management-induced changes in greenhouse gases from those changes caused by indirect human effects (e.g., carbon dioxide fertilization, nitrogen deposition, or precipitation changes), natural effects, and past practices on forested agricultural lands. This book summarizes a September 2003 workshop where leaders from academia, government and industry came together to discuss the current state of scientific understanding on quantifying direct human-induced change in terrestrial carbon stocks and related changes in greenhouse gas emissions and distinguishing these changes from those caused by indirect and natural effects.
