The Joy of Work

release date: Sep 23, 1998
The Joy of Work
"I cried because I did not have an office with a door, until I met a man who had no cubicle." -- Dilbert A message from Scott Adams: I think the next wave of office design will focus on eliminating the only remaining obstacle to office productivity: your happiness. Happiness isn't a physical thing, like walls and doors. But it's closely related. Managers know that if they can eliminate all traces of happiness, the employees won't be so picky about their physical surroundings. Once you're hopelessly unhappy, you won't bother to complain if your boss rolls you up in a tight ball and crams you into a cardboard box. As soon as I noticed this disturbing threat to workplace happiness, I did some investigative work and discovered it wasn't confined to the issue of office design. Companies were making a direct frontal assault on employee happiness in every possible way! I knew there was only one thing that could stop the horror. It was time for another Dilbert book. It might sound corny, but I felt an obligation to society. People told me it was time for me to "give something back to the community." This scared me, until I realized that no one knows I furnished my house with street signs and park benches. So I interpreted the "give something back to the community" message as a plea for me to write this book and then charge the community to read it. In the first part of this book I will tell you how to find happiness at the expense of your co-workers, managers, customers, and--best of all--those lazy stockholders. The second part of the book teaches you my top-secret methods for mining humor out of ordinary situations, thus making it easier to mock the people around you. The third part of the book is made entirely of invisible pages. If the book seems heavier than it looks, that's why. Office Prank #44: Sounds That Drive Co-workers Crazy You can produce sounds in the office that will drive your co-workers insane. That can be very entertaining. Every co-worker is different, so you might have to experiment to find the sounds that are most annoying to your cubicle neighbor. It's worth the effort.

I'm Tempted to Stop Acting Randomly

release date: Dec 14, 2010
I'm Tempted to Stop Acting Randomly
The number one calendar in the world, with sales of 400,000 every year. Pointless projects, endless meetings, and random downsizing make up the Dilbert world. Following his 20th anniversary hit, Dilbert 2.0, Scott Adams returns with another Dilbert collection of funny page favorites inside I'm Tempted to Stop Acting Randomly. Inside this collection, Dilbert and his team "flail around in futility" while the corporate bosses "forget what it's like to be one of the little people." From CEO Dogbert's speculative use of the company jet for personal vacationing to the flawed planning of a new electrically compromised data center, Dilbert exemplifies the randomness and annoyances associated with corporate cubicle culture.

In Jesus' Name

release date: Oct 25, 2022
In Jesus' Name
This book focuses on a neglected area of New Testament studies—the function of prayer across the Johannine literature. By building on the author’s previous work, Prayer in John’s Farewell Discourse, this book takes another step forward by exploring how prayer in the Farewell Discourse compares to prayer in 1 John, 3 John, and Revelation. It also seeks to discern how prayer is linked to the ethical behaviors of Johannine disciples, their missional success as they carry forth the mission of God in the world, and the eschatological impulse of calling for Jesus to come again in order to complete his work in the world. As a bonus, the final chapter highlights key elements of Johannine prayer that are relevant to the contemporary reader who approaches the Scriptures not merely as ancient documents to be read and interpreted but as timeless truths that are to be applied and obeyed.

Cubicles That Make You Envy the Dead
"The cartoon hero of the workplace" --San Francisco Examiner Dilbert is the cubicle-bound star of the most photocopied, pinned-up, downloaded, faxed, and e-mailed comic strip in the world. As fresh a look at the inanity of office life as it brought to the comics pages when it first appeared in 1989, this new Dilbert collection comically confirms to the working public that we all really know what's going on. Our devices might be more sophisticated, our software and apps might be more plentiful, but when it gets down to interactions between the worker bees and the clueless in-controls, discontent and sarcasm rule, as only Dilbert can proclaim.

Prayer in John's Farewell Discourse

release date: Mar 12, 2020
Prayer in John's Farewell Discourse
It was reported that a doctoral student at Princeton once asked Albert Einstein, “What is there left in the world for original dissertation research?” He replied by saying, “Find out about prayer. Somebody must find out about prayer.” Since Einstein’s day, a great deal has been written on the topic of prayer in general. However, relatively little has been written about prayer in John’s Farewell Discourse in particular. Therefore, this analysis not only seeks to understand the relationship between Johannine and Jewish, Greco-Roman, and Christian prayer traditions, but also seeks to discern the unique function and application of prayer as it is prescribed in the Farewell Discourse.

The Dilbert Principle

release date: Apr 18, 1996
The Dilbert Principle
The creator of Dilbert, the fastest-growing comic strip in the nation (syndicated in nearly 1000 newspapers), takes a look at corporate America in all its glorious lunacy. Lavishly illustrated with Dilbert strips, these hilarious essays on incompetent bosses, management fads, bewildering technological changes and so much more, will make anyone who has ever worked in an office laugh out loud in recognition. The Dilbert Principle: The most ineffective workers will be systematically moved to the place where they can do the least damage -- management. Since 1989, Scott Adams has been illustrating this principle each day, lampooning the corporate world through Dilbert, his enormously popular comic strip. In Dilbert, the potato-shaped, abuse-absorbing hero of the strip, Adams has given voice to the millions of Americans buffeted by the many adversities of the workplace. Now he takes the next step, attacking corporate culture head-on in this lighthearted series of essays. Packed with more than 100 hilarious cartoons, these 25 chapters explore the zeitgeist of ever-changing management trends, overbearing egos, management incompetence, bottomless bureaucracies, petrifying performance reviews, three-hour meetings, the confusion of the information superhighway and more. With sharp eyes, and an even sharper wit, Adams exposes -- and skewers -- the bizarre absurdities of everyday corporate life. Readers will be convinced that he must be spying on their bosses, The Dilbert Principle rings so true!

I'm Not Antibusiness, I'm Anti-idiot
Scott Adams has accomplished a rare feat. In his wildly successful cartoon strip, Dilbert, he has transformed the daily drudgery of the workplace into a fresh, comic commentary on life. This volume of cartoons, which ran in newspapers from November 20, 1995, through August 31, 1996, brings you more of the bizarre fun of the eternally devious, frustrated, and clueless. In addition to the antics of Dilbert, the Boss, Alice, Wally, and Dogbert, you'll marvel at the escapades of Antina the non-stereotypical woman, who takes apart the office coffee machine "just for fun." You'll witness Ratbert hired as vice president of marketing, with his only experience being a week spent in a dumpster at Procter & Gamble. And you'll recoil from Camping Carl, the office's annoyingly nonstop complainer, whom Dilbert manages to evade only by taking to his cubicle escape tunnel. Dilbert first gave a voice to frustrated cube dwellers in 1989, and today the world's fastest growing cartoon is in more than 1,700 newspapers in 51 countries and 19 languages.
