The following story is my first ever attempt at an adult comedy. I had the idea in mind for well over a year, but put it on indefinite hold as I was busy with other projects. Now, after just over a month of working on it tirelessly, here it is. It contains adult content (obviously) and profanity.

The following book is comprised of all stories from both PALPIATIONS and PALPITATIONS 2. Rather than be laid out in the exact same order they were in both books prior to this one, they have all been rearranged into a specific descending order that represents my favourites to my least favourites.The story titled REBORN is also no longer in four separate parts.

William Frederick May is a former orthopaedic surgeon, one of the best surgeons of his time, with a successful career spanning over three decades. Although he is officially retired from the stresses of working life, he, because of two unforgettable experiences that occurred during his later life, has joined a private organisation known as S.P.I.R.I.T.S., and occasionally participates in a service which is provided to those who are in desperate need of help. His newfound vocation is, to say the least, extremely fascinating. At times, on the other hand, it''s also downright scary, even frightening. Otherworldly entities - some mischievous, some harmless, others more sinister in nature - lurk nearby, observing, waiting for the perfect opportunity to capture the attention of those brave or foolish enough to satisfy an insatiable curiosity. Unfortunately, curiosity can sometimes lead to bigger and far more serious problems, namely an unprovoked attack on those who are unsuspecting.

The following consists of my own personal favourite short stories from Palpitations: Volumes 1 - 4 (54 in total). The ones not included are the ones I didn''t enjoy writing, nor did I enjoy reading through during lengthy editing periods. All stories were thought of and written by me, Robert Atkins. Any resemblances, if any, between them and any other stories written by various other authors are purely coincidental.

As part of the Getty Foundation''s Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A., 1945-1980 regional initiative, the exhibition Backyard Oasis, mounted by Palm Springs Art Museum in 2012, examines photographs of swimming pools from 1945 to 1982 as visual analogs of the ideals and expectations associated with Southern California. These images of individual water-based environs in the arid landscape are an integral part of the region''s identity, a microcosm of the hopes and disillusionments of the country''s post-World War II ethos. The catalogue contains an introductory essay providing an overview of the development of the swimming pool and its attendant aesthetic and social culture.
