Atlas of the Human Body

release date: Apr 04, 2017
Atlas of the Human Body
Atlas of Human Body: Central Nervous System and Vascularization is a multidisciplinary approach to the technical coverage of anatomical structures and relationships. It contains surface and 3D dissection images, native and colored cross sectional views made in different planes, MRI comparisons, demonstrations of cranial nerve origins, distribution of blood vessels by dissection, and systematic presentation of arterial distribution from the precapillary level, using the methyl metacrylate injection and subsequent tissue digestion method. Included throughout are late prenatal (fetal) and early postnatal images to contribute to a better understanding of structure/relationship specificity of differentiation at various developmental intervals (conduits, organs, somatic, or branchial derivatives). Each chapter features clinical correlations providing a unique perspective of side-by side comparisons of dissection images, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. Created after many years of professional and scientific cooperation between the authors and their parent institutions, this important resource will serve researchers, students, and doctors in their professional work.

Demonizer Zilch, Vol. 1
Haunted by the untimely deaths of his mother, little sister, and a childhood friend, listless high schooler Haruomi Io has trouble engaging with anything or anyone. Of course, that doesn''t mean others have trouble engaging with him-a fact he discovers to his dismay when he finds himself the target of a trigger-happy group calling themselves the "Seventh Gospel Organization." Having newfound enemies may be rough, but Haruomi''s unexpected ally in the form of a demoness calling herself Zilch may turn out to be even more of a handful...Still, there''s something to be said for a dose of the supernatural (and more than a few buxom girls) when it comes to casting off the doldrums!

Interdisciplinary Planning

Interdisciplinary Planning
Critiques of traditional urban planning are numerous. The debate about direction within the profession and why urban planning seems to be in a state of despair continues. However, and as Milan J. Dluhy and Kan Chen note, the more critical issue is the future direction of planning, particularly interdisciplinary planning. In this regard, they note five principal areas of concern: planning is action research, planning is knowledge driven, planning is both process and technologically oriented, planning is interdisciplinary, and planning is adaptive to emerging concerns. Reviewing the literature and empirical studies on roles and attitudes, the editors note that planners seem committed to symbols and expressions of advocacy as well as traditional planning doctrine. This emphasizes rational planning and neutral policy roles for practitioners. Without a guiding theory to give a unified approach to practice, planners remain free to select the role most compatible with their personal background and training. This volume asserts that diversity need not be a drawback as long as careful analysis and open planning processes are used. This title will be an invaluable resource. Part I illustrates the critical dilemmas in planning, Part II focuses on planning skills and orientations, the third part focuses sharply on planning roles, while the final section answers a fundamental question: can interdisciplinary planning offer a more useful perspective than others on how to achieve more successful planning outcomes?

Exercising Control of the Sea

release date: Oct 14, 2020
Exercising Control of the Sea
This book explains both the strategic and the operational aspects of exercising control of the sea. The struggle for sea control consists of three mutually related and overlapping phases: obtaining, maintaining and exercising sea control. It is in the phase of exercising sea control when one’s strategic or operational success is exploited; otherwise, the fruits of victories achieved would be wasted. This work describes the strategy of a stronger side in wartime after a desired degree of control has been obtained, which is followed by a discussion on the objectives and main methods used in exercising sea control. The remaining chapters explain and analyze in some detail each of the main methods of exercising sea control: defence and protection of one’s own and destruction/neutralization of the enemy’s military-economic potential at sea, capturing the enemy’s operationally important positions ashore, destroying/weakening the enemy’s military-economic potential ashore and supporting one’s ground forces in their offensive and defensive operations on the coast. This book will be of much interest to students of strategic studies, sea power and naval history.

A Portrait of Rose

release date: Jul 02, 2022
A Portrait of Rose
Milan Svanderlik''s mother, Rose, was born in 1908 in rural Croatia, then still part of the mighty Hapsburg Empire. This portrait of her depicts a rustic childhood and adolescence on the family farm, overseen by her talented and strong-minded mother, Christina, effectively the matriarch of the family, particularly after her husband returns from the Great War a broken man. But village life is not for Rose and she dreams of the more sophisticated life of towns and cities. Her passport to freedom is the striking Theo, an officer in the Royal Yugoslav Army. They marry and after some years on the military base of a country town, where they have two children, the family is posted to Zagreb, the cosmopolitan capital, where Rose enjoys the happiest years of her life. As World War II looms, Theo''s unit is posted to Petrinja, an important garrison town, where Rose has to face her greatest challenges. As the Yugoslav Army disintegrates, Theo simply disappears, leaving Rose to fend for herself and their children, Vera and Mirko. With her husband suspected of joining Tito''s Partisans, making him a traitor in the eyes of Croatia''s new nationalist rulers, Rose and the children are threatened with the concentration camps. In the nick of time, two guardian angels appear and Rose and her family are safe from the threats of fascist militias. But what will happen when the war takes an unexpected turn? Will Rose come to be seen as a traitor herself? And what will her husband think if and when he ever returns? This Portrait, the story of a long life lived through the 20th century''s most turbulent times, is illustrated with 61 remarkable contemporary photographs, bringing to life the period from 1908 to 1946.

Airport Analysis, Planning, and Design

release date: Jan 01, 2009
Airport Analysis, Planning, and Design
Airports are components of the air transport system together with the ATC (Air Traffic Control), and airlines. Many existing airports have been confronted with increasing requirements for providing the sufficient airside and landside capacity to accommodate generally growing but increasingly volatile and uncertain air transport demand, efficiently, effectively, and safely. This demand has consisted of aircraft movements, passengers, and freight shipments. In parallel, the environmental constraints in terms of noise, air pollution, and land use (take) have strengthened. Under such circumstances, both existing and particularly new airports will have to use the advanced concepts and methods for analysis and forecasting of the airport demand, and planning and design of the airside and landside capacity. These will also include developing the short-term and the long-term solutions for matching capacity to demand in order to mitigate expected congestion and delays as well as the multidimensional examination of the infrastructural, technical, technological, operational, economic, environmental, and social airport performance. This book provides an insight into these and other challenges, with which the existing and future airports are to be increasingly faced in the 21st century.

Tracing the Unspoken

release date: Dec 15, 2019
Tracing the Unspoken
Poetry. LGBTQIA Studies. TRACING THE UNSPOKEN is the English-language debut of an award-winning Slovenian poet and translator, which dares to openly speak (or write) the name of gay desire, in these compact, precise poems in prose. "In TRACING THE UNSPOKEN, Milan Selj has compiled a ledger of obsession: by applying language to shapeless silence, the individual tries to make sense of desire. In these fragments of narrative, the tacit, the implicit, the unspoken and the unspeakable are all eventually given voice. Passion is blocked by indifference, indifference unblocked by passion. And somehow love, once put into words, survives to thrive. The process is compelling, the expression eloquent."--Gregory Woods "Instants of great sexual and emotional tension, caught in needle-sharp language of utter clarity and purity."--Christopher Whyte
